Hockeytown Part Deux: Yanks-Tigers Gamer II

Justin Verlander flummoxed the Yankees while Ivan Nova served up BP last night for Detroit’s ninth-consecutive home victory. They go for ten in a row at home behind the arm of Rick Porcello, while Phil Hughes goes for his third straight victory for the Bombers. Comment away.

  • I tuned in just in time to see a Tigers comeback as Hughes throws something like 153 pitches in the fourth.

  • I’m not saying I could make that play, but Eric Chavez should’ve.. Ajax with a single makes this situation in the bottom of the fifth look very frightening indeed, and Cabrera is on deck.

  • Infante pops out, but Cabrera does what Cabrera does.. double scores both runners with Prince coming up. Hughes signs off, on the hook for one more runner and with the Yankees trailing 4-2.

  • Fielder hits one off the space station but pops out anyway.

    attackgerbil August 7, 2012, 8:50 pm
  • Logan cleans up the mess from Hughes as Boesch goes down swinging. Yankees down by two heading to the sixth.

  • Chavez with a good play, and then another 5-3 with a nice scoop by Teixeira to save the low throw from Chavez. And then Chavez Beans Boone. Had to rewind that one.. OUCH. And funny.

  • Dirks doubles to score Avila, but a good relay Swisher>Cano>Chavez gets Dirks going for the triple to end the inning. Tigers lead 5-2.

  • Site is slow right now.. database choking. Working on it.

    attackgerbil August 7, 2012, 9:16 pm
  • Cano makes everything look so silky-smoothy-easy while making fantastic, sometimes margin-less plays. Does that make him the opposite of Gritty? What would that be? Greasy?

  • Final three outs for Yankees against Valverde.

    attackgerbil August 7, 2012, 10:04 pm
  • Ichiro makes it 6-4.. make that Ichiro!

    attackgerbil August 7, 2012, 10:24 pm
  • Russel Martin with a hit! Double to the corner. Ibanez scored, but Ichiro can’t get home on that. Granderson up with a chance to tie it.

  • 2-89.

  • What a lead this team built in the division to still be up by 5 and be just one game off the AL-best record despite the losses they’ve piled up for almost three weeks now. Going to take a day off work next thursday to watch the Thursday day-game vs. Texas. I hope they’ve turned things around by then or that 4-game series could be disastrous. The extended absence of Gardner and now A-Rod is taking its toll. And the pitching is regressing, other than Kuroda who has been consistently great for the past.2 months and CC, who is hopefullly hitting his stride in the dog days of summer that he loves so much. No panic here, but I do think this record is much more reflective of their talent than where they were at the end of June.
