  • $5 million doesn’t get what it used to.

  • Penny again needs a ton of pitches, but at least he gets through the third without further runs. It’s still a game, but we’ll see a lot of innings from the bullpen.

  • Who’s the long man for Boston now? Hunter Jones?

    AndrewYF April 17, 2009, 8:35 pm
  • Penny out after walking the lead-off man in the 4th. Supposedly 51 of his 85 pitches have been strikes but it seemed as if he found the strike zone only by accident.
A nation turns it’s lonely eyes to Clay Buchholz (or John Smoltz)?

  • If it weren’t a 7-5 game Jones would do mop-up duty. But for now it’s Delcarmen .

  • Obviously MDC is not a long man, but they wanted a guy to keep them in the game. Allowing the inherited runner to score on the Markakis double was not a good start, though.
Not sure who’ll be the long man in general now that Masterson has joined the rotation.

  • Easy 7-pitch-inning for Delcarmen.
And then David Ortiz pops up the first pitch. About him I’m really worried.

  • Bases loaded for Varitek. And an error by Aubrey Huff brings home a run.

  • And, incredibly, Nick Green ties the game!!!

  • Wow. What a game this has been! I had it on in the background after Penny laid his deuce on the mound. Can’t believe they actually managed to tie it with Lowell-Varitek-Green up and two outs.

  • Javier Lopez is back to TEH SUCK this season. 84 pitches, just 51 strikes so far this year, including tonight’s wonderful 11-4 ratio. Ramon Ramirez comes on and gets the third out on one pitch.
Pedroia gets on. Let’s see if Papi picks a good time to get back on the ball…

    Paul SF April 17, 2009, 9:37 pm
  • wow. maybe this game will wake the bats up. not sure what it’s gonna take to get papi going. his “no manny” complaints on falling on deaf ears.
radio guy’s say they are gonna take youk out for precautionary reasons. probably carter coming in with kotsay DL’d.

    sf rod April 17, 2009, 9:50 pm
  • youk still in. that’s a good sign.
green has impressed with the glove and flashes with the bat.

    sf rod April 17, 2009, 9:54 pm
  • Papi can’t catch up to a fastball, whiffs with nobody out and the sacks full. Papi has me very worried.

    SF April 17, 2009, 10:06 pm
  • And then the Youk DP. What a waste – sacks full, nobody out, and nothing. Brutal.

    SF April 17, 2009, 10:07 pm
  • that hurts. bases plugged with no one out and the sox manage nothing.

    sf rod April 17, 2009, 10:07 pm
  • Wow, Ortiz and Youkilis still the only guys without a hit tonight as they manage to waste a bases-loaded no outs situation.

pale blue eyes April 17, 2009, 10:08 pm
  • And now the Orioles are rallying. The Sox should be up by at least three right now and this shouldn’t be nearly so tenuous.

    SF April 17, 2009, 10:16 pm
  • hey sf, were all the empty seats at yankee stadium noticeable today?

    sf rod April 17, 2009, 10:42 pm
  • Oh yeah – check the top post rod.

    SF April 17, 2009, 10:43 pm
  • game.
    the sox stole one tonite.
memo to mr. penny, you’re gonna need to compete to remain in the rotation after may.

    sf rod April 17, 2009, 10:47 pm
