Houston, We’ve Had A Problem: Yanks-SatanFish Gamer XVI

The Rocket is grounded due to a sore hamstring that he tweaked while running this past Thursday. All Yankees who haven’t hurt their hammy this season, please raise your hand. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Kei Igawa gets the ball with the chance to put the Yankees in the Post; he’ll face Jason Hammel, who held the Yankees to 5 hits and 1 run in his last outing against the Bombers.

The Yanks can back into the playoffs depending on what happens at Comerica, where the Twins face the Tigers. And the Athletics face the Sox at Fenway; we could use a little help from the boys in green and gold. Lineups follow, comment away.

  • Nothing like Tampa Bay to revive your offense.

  • True dat.

  • Has Jason Giambi now officially fallen off a cliff? I like DM as the regular, but would also like to see Giambi kept more fresh – he seems adversely affected by long lay-offs and DM is always a good late inning substitute even when JG starts (if they have the lead late of course).
Anyway, can’t believe IGawa survived an inning without giving up runs. Arigato Disaster-son.

  • Granny for A-Rod. Only player in the AL since Manny’s insane 1999 season to get to 151 RBI. And the only guy in the NL since 2001 was Sosa.
Truly a season for the ages.

  • Igawa may have BB’d his way to a victory w/ those unhittable pitches

  • 6th Inning – Yanks 5 TB 0
    Ramirez walks many
Bruney walks in a run, then gives up a GS.
    Yanks 5 TB 6

  • I last checked when it was 5-0. Wow, this bullpen minus Joba and Mo doesn’t inspire confidence..

  • Hopefully, this is the same Tampa Bay that rolls over for Sox..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:10 pm
  • Posada with his 42nd double. Also a season for the ages, and though it’s gotten some press (maybe just on the blogs anyhow), it’s still underreported. Wow.

  • Certainly looks that way right now…

  • Cano singles to put man on corners..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:15 pm
  • And here comes Giambi..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:15 pm
  • Let’s hope Cano doesn’t get picked off again. Hah.

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:16 pm
  • Giambi with a nice 3 pitch strikeout. Now a DP will not score the run.

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:19 pm
  • Well, Leche manages to tie it up.

  • Melky’s 6 for his last 55, by my count.
But in this case, an out is still a tie game.

    Josh SF (D1) September 25, 2007, 10:20 pm
  • Melky!!! Sac fly ties the game, and Cano goes to second.

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:20 pm
  • 4 Singles? Who replaced Damon with Ichiro?

    Mike-YF September 25, 2007, 10:21 pm
  • Well, now it’s a battle of bullpens. I can smell the bloodbath from here..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:22 pm
  • Well, another single to left field, but I guess they were playing him relatively in or something, as Cano stops at third. Men at corner again, and here’s Captain Clutch himself..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:23 pm
  • Whatever happened to Wheeler? I thought he was going to replace Lidge at some point, and now he’s sucking for a crappy squad. What a fall..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:25 pm
  • Jeter strikes out looking on a borderline 3-2 pitch. Game still tied at 6.

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:27 pm
  • For the record, 6 runs on 4 hits and no errors means Edwar and Bruney get to stay at home this October, mmkay?

    Mike-YF September 25, 2007, 10:27 pm
  • I don’t know whatever happened to them. Or why we need 3 pitchers for one inning in a 5 run game. Sigh.

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:28 pm
  • Farnsy in to blow the game.

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:30 pm
  • So far, so good for Farnsie…

    dknyc September 25, 2007, 10:33 pm
  • Atta Boy Farnsie

  • Thanks for proving me wrong for now. Here’s Reyes.

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:38 pm
  • Abreu missed a HR, but not by much.. d’oh..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:39 pm
  • Feed on their pen, Yanks… feeeeeeeeed

    Jordan Meisner September 25, 2007, 10:39 pm
  • He was playing deep…wow

    dknyc September 25, 2007, 10:42 pm
  • Both Abreu and ARod missed a HR not by much. Reyes is as bad as they say, I guess.
If only we had a good bullpen I wouldn’t mind going into extra innings..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 10:43 pm
  • Mets have scored 6 so far in the ninth against Washington to cut the deficit to 1. 10-9 Nats, 1 out, tying run at 2nd and Carlos Delgado at the plate.

    Josh SF (D1) September 25, 2007, 10:47 pm
  • Ya, the Yanks got to win 5-0 games. Grrr..

    Lar September 25, 2007, 11:22 pm
  • Seeya! Dioner Navarro wins it with a tenth inning walkoff solo blast!

    SF September 25, 2007, 11:22 pm
  • What an annoying game. Tampa’s bullpen, by far the worst in the league and probably one of the worst in modern baseball history, shuts us down while ours collapses. Poop.

    Jordan Meisner September 25, 2007, 11:52 pm
  • Wow, and Detroit won too. Whodathunk?
    :)

  • For a fan base that didn’t care about winning the division you guys seem to be paying a ton of attention to the Yankees. Division doesn’t matter my arse!

    John - YF (Trisk) September 26, 2007, 8:48 am
  • Trisk:
I have already said I want the Sox to win the division. I don’t think getting excited about winning it is that odd. I also don’t think that just because some Sox fans might understand that the division isn’t the end-all/be-all they won’t get excited if the Sox win.
For me, the division would be nice, but the best record in the AL would be a nicer thing to accomplish, simply because it gives the Sox three rounds of home field, if it gets that far. But as far as the big picture is concerned for me, the playoffs are the first goal, everything else is gravy. Gravy can be very tasty, even if you didn’t think the bird needed it!
