We all know the Red Sox are sending six players to the festivities in San Francisco, the Yankees three. We know these nine players will be knee-deep in autograph signing, media interviews, and, most importantly, burritos. But what are the "laypeople" of our two teams doing during this short vacation from the stresses of everyday Major League life? How are the non-stars relaxing? We got wind of several itineraries for some of our teams’ "lesser" players, and it sounds like non-stop fun. To wit:
- Julian Tavarez: Taking his test to become an OT-Level III
- Joe Torre: Replenishing his Ambien prescription; sleeping through the first half emptied his supply.
- Dustin Pedroia: Shoe shopping.
- Jason Giambi: Working in his garage honing his millworking skills.
- Wily Mo Pena: Racking up 8Ks in an all-day wiffle ball game with his nephews
- Hideki Matsui: "Rehabbing" his left wrist and occasionally, just for a little variety, his right.
- Carl Pavano: Filling up a bathtub with $100 bills, hopping in, popping a bottle of Cristal, and laughing his [ed. correction: strained] ass off.
- Doug Mirabelli and Tim Wakefield: Going mountain biking.
Let me be the first to say that Pavano will probably slip trying to hop in that tub. And break something.
yes he most likely will :)
He will also use far too many brand new hundreds and end up with a lot of nasty paper cuts.
“If there were ever a time for Red Sox fans around here to be embarrassed, this is probably it.”

Maybe it’s a good thing we are missing this postseason!!!
Or, the smell of fresh new $100 bills will make him dizzy, cause him to fall over and suffer a non-serious but “career”-ending injury….
Ya, or popping that Cristal will turn into a classic comedy situation where it hits someone or something. I’m too lazy to be creative today.
Easy schedule for Boston and Yanks coming up. Of course the easy thing is to hope that the Sox collapse and the Yanks catch up. Though more realistically, let’s hope the Yanks play .650-.700 baseball until the schedule gets harder again and make up some games on the wild card at least.
And we got to do the small things when the game is close. Ya, the 1-run thing is luck, but you need something to compensate for the bad luck.. bah.
The Pavano entry has been updated to reflect reality…
;-)
Carl should invite over Lugo and Clement, this way it could be a party of thieves! Hope he has a big tub!
They could invite Wily Mo over, but the odds are he’d try to get into the tub and miss by like three feet and hit the floor.
Wow SF I think you hate Wily Mo Pena more then I hate Joe Torre right now…Wow.
Hey atleast we got a very good half season outta Clement, more then u can say for Pavano
Clement 44 G 18-11 255 innings or so 189 K 145 ER
Pavano 19 G 5-6 111 innings 60K 59 ER
Relax TJ, I was not trying to make it a Sox Vs. Yankee thing, but rather a family thing. Like hey we have X and you have Y, we both know how it feels.
