If a Tree Falls in the Woods: Yanks Vs. Sox 3

Here’s your place to talk about all the excitement of today’s game. It’s a beautiful day for baseball, try not to ruin that Yankees. Moose is going for 17 wins today, while Lester tries to stay hot. Comment away!

  • Really? all by myself?

    ponch - sf August 28, 2008, 1:28 pm
  • an inauspicious start for lester. no more ace talk for this guy.

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 1:28 pm
  • All hope was abandoned. Of course, unless the Yanks win out the rest of the season. That would be something..

    Lar August 28, 2008, 1:29 pm
  • rod- is that better? re: Lester :)

    dw (sf) August 28, 2008, 1:31 pm
  • Ah, there’s the ARod we all know and love. Well, know.

    Lar August 28, 2008, 1:34 pm
  • welcome aboard mr. kotsay.

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 1:34 pm
  • i’ve kinda been hoping one of the sox pitchers would single out a random yankee hitter and throw at his head everytime he comes up for no particular reason. maybe ransom is that guy.

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 1:52 pm
  • well. Lester got him in the big toe, does that count?

    dw (sf) August 28, 2008, 2:05 pm
  • I like this new Tek….

    rootbeerfloat August 28, 2008, 2:30 pm
  • Varitek? REALLY?

    Micah-SF August 28, 2008, 2:30 pm
  • Gotta love those legs of his.

    Brad August 28, 2008, 2:31 pm
  • Joe C just said “speed will never go into a slump”. hahaha.

    Brad August 28, 2008, 2:32 pm
  • It’s really pretty funny to follow along on LoHud during the day games.

    Brad August 28, 2008, 2:33 pm
  • Baaaaad call there.

    Micah-SF August 28, 2008, 2:34 pm
  • brad- lohud’s been fun all season but the last 3 day’s have been pure comedy. loving every minute of it. what’s your handle over there?

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 2:38 pm
  • if you told me at the start of the season that our lineup would look like this on aug. 28th, i’d guess we’d be 15 games out and packing up for the winter.

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 2:43 pm
  • There’s a game today???

    krueg August 28, 2008, 2:49 pm
  • Third HBP. Is there a “beanball war” going on? I’m without audio and video today. Only Gameday.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 2:52 pm
  • looks like there’s an extra 6 inches on the plate today. guess everybody wants to get on the road quickly today.

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 2:55 pm
  • Doesn’t seem to be any intention on the HBP, no real reaction from the batters or the benches.

    rootbeerfloat August 28, 2008, 2:57 pm
  • Moooooooose for 20!
But of course, here’s another chance for the meat of the lineup to do nothing..

    Lar August 28, 2008, 3:03 pm
  • I still don’t know how this team doesn’t score 900 runs. Injuries aside. Sigh.

    Lar August 28, 2008, 3:05 pm
  • All ARod has to do is not GIDP to score a run. Hrmm, where have I heard this before?

    Lar August 28, 2008, 3:06 pm
  • well he didn’t GIDP…

    rootbeerfloat August 28, 2008, 3:07 pm
  • Thanks Yanks. Can’t even get a win for Moose. Bah. I don’t even know why I’m watching this.

    Lar August 28, 2008, 3:08 pm
  • ARod is so awesome…we are so lucky to have him for the rest of his career!!!! GO AROD!!!

    krueg August 28, 2008, 3:09 pm
  • I hope we keep Fat Bobby forever too!!! I’m sure Moose and Pettitte can pitch into their 50’s easy…I hear 7 figure extensions baby!!!

    krueg August 28, 2008, 3:10 pm
  • I just realized who Ronan Tynan looks like:

    Brownie August 28, 2008, 3:26 pm
  • Bah, Ransom ruins the seventh.
Still, a phenomenal performance. Lester has really owned the Yanks this year.

    Micah-SF August 28, 2008, 3:36 pm
  • Oki-Doki were back in it!

    John - YF August 28, 2008, 3:38 pm

    Micah-SF August 28, 2008, 3:39 pm

    Micah-SF August 28, 2008, 3:39 pm
  • God I hate Giambi…

    rootbeerfloat August 28, 2008, 3:39 pm
  • And so goes the “Owner” of the Sox and his bid for a win. This spoiler role ain’t so bad!

    John - YF August 28, 2008, 3:39 pm
  • Oki has a Timlin moment. So much for the return of the old reliable Oki.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 3:39 pm
  • I smell a turning point…
I also know that Ronan Tynan will now be singing GBA every day at the stadium if they win this game. Hank is already on the phone with his booking agent.

    John - YF August 28, 2008, 3:43 pm
  • Oh, give it up, John.
    Tynan is no Robert Merrill.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 3:45 pm
  • IBM, I am kidding pal. In case you haven’t read the rest of what I posted here I waved the White Flag already bud. Just having some fun, that’s all.

    John - YF August 28, 2008, 3:46 pm
  • Personally I’m glad to see a little snark from a YF – it’s unnerving to see them give up.

    rootbeerfloat August 28, 2008, 3:47 pm
  • John, me too.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 3:48 pm
  • Too bad Moose can’t win it. Ah well.

    Lar August 28, 2008, 3:49 pm
  • But we can pretend to be testy with each other to entertain everyone else.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 3:52 pm
  • Well, that was an annoying – and annoyingly long – half-inning. Since Girardi’s clearly incredibly determined to win this game, how long does Mo stay in?

    Micah-SF August 28, 2008, 3:53 pm
  • Ohhhh ok gotcha IBM. Wasn’t sure.

    John - YF August 28, 2008, 3:54 pm
  • That seems like an odd move, bringing Rivera into a tie game. YF’s, isn’t this where Mo’s been somewhat vulnerable this year? (Vulnerable of course, for Mo. Which is not the same as vulnerable for Craig Hansen.)

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 3:54 pm
  • I don’t mean to be condescending, but you do know Merrill’s history, right?

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 3:57 pm
  • I dont – know Merrill’s history…

    rootbeerfloat August 28, 2008, 3:59 pm
  • I really would have preferred Masterson, not Oki, replace Lester back there.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 4:00 pm
  • For the longest time, whenever Merrill sang the national anthem at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees won. Or so it seemed.
And they always seemed to bring him in at just the right time. It was almost uncanny.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 4:01 pm
  • Turning point again!

    Lar August 28, 2008, 4:05 pm
  • Jeter demands an error.

    Lar August 28, 2008, 4:06 pm
  • Don’t mess with Ronan!!! He sings at the Sabres games too…
    ARod- 0-4 3k’s
    Worth every penny…

    krueg August 28, 2008, 4:07 pm
  • Even Jeter sucks now…great.

    krueg August 28, 2008, 4:07 pm
  • $100 says Bay comes around to score…

    krueg August 28, 2008, 4:08 pm
  • Wow. A-Rod amazingly impotent in this series.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 4:08 pm
  • this would be a beauty spot for kotsay to endear himself to the faithful.

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 4:08 pm
  • Are you kidding Bill????

    krueg August 28, 2008, 4:09 pm
  • Guess I owe you guys $100…

    krueg August 28, 2008, 4:13 pm
  • ummmmmm….where did those last two pitches miss?

    sf rod August 28, 2008, 4:24 pm
  • Can’t figure out what’s going on.
My Gameday keeps freezing and the mlb.com front page already has the game in extra innings.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 4:25 pm
  • Didn’t miss by much.. especially that 2-2.
    This is exciting.

    attackgerbil August 28, 2008, 4:27 pm
  • giambi will hit into a DP…watch.

    krueg August 28, 2008, 4:28 pm
  • Are we in extras?

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 4:28 pm
  • Yahoo’s boxscore finally updated to show Papelbon in the game. Sounds like the gamecasts didn’t handle the pitching change well.

    FenSheaParkway August 28, 2008, 4:29 pm
  • Giambi wins the game with a single after falling in an 0-2 hole.

    attackgerbil August 28, 2008, 4:29 pm

    John - YF August 28, 2008, 4:30 pm
  • MLB.com still has the game going into extra innings. What a bunch of bozos.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 4:30 pm
  • Pitch hung belt high just off the plate.. Jason reached out and stroked it to left center.

    attackgerbil August 28, 2008, 4:30 pm
  • yay. we won. i’m so happy.

    krueg August 28, 2008, 4:30 pm
  • Not gameday, but the mlb.com front page.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 28, 2008, 4:31 pm
  • Normally, I’d be upset by this. But, somehow today, it just seems like it’s okay. I don’t know if it’s because the Yanks just aren’t in it, or if it’s becuase they really were supposed to win it, the last game against these two in this house.

    Brad August 28, 2008, 4:31 pm
  • I think we’re going to see the greatest run for the post-season since Colorado in 2007.

    walein August 28, 2008, 4:33 pm
  • I loathe Giambi’s fat, ugly, thong-wearing steroid-fueled ass.

    Micah-SF August 28, 2008, 4:34 pm
  • > steroid-fueled ass
Have you seen him run? I don’t think the fuel went there.

    attackgerbil August 28, 2008, 4:35 pm
  • Wouldn’t be surprised if the following happened:
Papelbon, having lost all confidence, turns into Brad Lidge of a couple years ago.
The Yankees run off 12 straight wins where the starting pitcher (after giving up less than 3 runs) figures into the game’s decision only twice.
Hank Steinbrenner says something which translates onto the back-page of the Post as “OOga-booga—ugggghhhhhhh”
Alex Cora becomes the only productive hitter on the Sox for the next 3 weeks.
Just telling you what I saw; and there were all kinds of scientific methods being employed in those predictions.

    walein August 28, 2008, 4:38 pm
  • Pinching lefy Jason against lefty Oki for a righty makes Joe look brilliant.

    attackgerbil August 28, 2008, 4:38 pm
  • Stinks losing today, but beating Baltimore, Toronto, and New York consecutively on their home turf…yeah, I’d have signed up for it.

    Devine August 28, 2008, 4:51 pm
  • Beckett scratched from tomorrow’s start against ChiSox.

    attackgerbil August 28, 2008, 5:00 pm
  • Never mind about the genius thing.. I didn’t realize it was Molina…. oops.

    attackgerbil August 28, 2008, 5:06 pm
  • Anyone get the sense that the sox arent being totally honest about Beckett’s arm here? Thats 3 starts he has been scratched from now. That doesnt sound like something that happens from sleeping wrong on one’s arm…

    Sam-YF August 28, 2008, 5:51 pm
  • Only 6 games back!

    Lar August 28, 2008, 6:03 pm
  • The question is, will Pete Abraham now berate Terry Francona for not being up front about Beckett’s injury?
