In My Grubby Little Hands …

… I now hold (figuratively — OK, I just hold the confirmation email) two tickets to the April 5 Red Sox-Royals game. That’s not just the third game of the season. That’s also likely the first game Daisuke Matsuzaka pitches in the major leagues. Worth a 12-hour drive? Heck yes.

  • Definitely worth the drive, Paul. I myself managed to secure 4 right field roof seats at Fenway on June 30th. I’ve never sat up there before and I was really looking forward to it, but unfortunately, thats the day I have to move. Now I have to decide. I either a) move, or b) let the landlord have all my stuff and catch the Sox in Fenway.
    Decisions, decisions…

  • Well for your sake, Paul, I hope he pitches a gem.

  • I’m looking forward to your posts (and i hope some pics) on the experience already, Paul. Sweet.

  • Pretty cool. I’ve got tickets to the April 26 game in Baltimore. By my estimation, that could mean Matsuzaka, Papelbon, or Wakefield; anyone seen anything about whether Boston plans on using a 4-man rotation through the first week or two to keep guys on regular rest? I like Wake…but I’d I’d much rather see Matsuzaka or Paps.

  • Any chance we could get the season to start tomorrow? Im bored of spring training and need some real baseball ASAP

  • Only ONE game?
I will be there opening day, and then the other two games. third base line, just past the dugout, about 10 rows up. I’m the big loud Irish guy wearing the sox jersey, a worn out as hell hat, and a smile the size of texas…because it’s baseball season BABY!!!
    wait…that only works in Omaha

  • Lucky devil! I’d say that’s worth a 12 hour trip too.

  • And me, I’d say it’s a no-win experience.
He throws his best, and wins = Meh, it’s the Royals.
Otherwise, he’s just okay and loses = Ha! It’s the Royals!
    Have fun!

  • Tree — I thought about buying tickets for all three games, it being KC and cheap and all, but that gets expensive when you consider staying ovenringt, food costs, etc. I’ll also be down the LF line, but closer to the pole, I’m guessing 15 rows up. Again, it bing KC, I’m hopng that by the third inning, we can move closer to the plate…
In any case, there will definitely be pics and some kind of write up when I return.

  • “I’m the big loud Irish guy wearing the sox jersey.”
Should be simple to pick you out of the crowd. Irish in Boston, few and far between. Sox jersey at a Sox game, rare. Shoot you are going to stick out like a sore thumb.
Oh and just in case you guys come to the stadium for a game I am the big loud Italian guy wearing a Yankees hat and grey road jersey. Make sure you say hi.

  • Dude, Trisk, the game’s in KC. Not Fenway.

    Steve March 15, 2007, 9:08 am
  • There is a very good chance that Red Sox fans will outnumber Royal’s fans at that game, so it should be pretty cool. I’m jealous. As long as we are on the subject of tickets, how many games have we all be able to secure so far? I mean for people not holding season tickets. I have 11 games so far, including Patriots Day, Trot’s return and 3 Sox/Yanks.

  • Oh my bad, well in that case Tree you will stick out like me at a swimsuit competition! Thank God for Steve.

  • We all know what happened last time Paul went to a Kansas City game. I can’t believe they are letting him back in the stadium.

  • I think Paul and TT1918 need to wear yfsf t-shirts and meet for a celebratory photo, with the scoreboard in the background.
Anyway, it’s great that you’re getting a first look at just how awesome the likely AL rookie of the year is going to be. That being Alex Gordon, of course.

    YF March 15, 2007, 9:37 am
  • I guess first I’d have to get my hands on a Soxfan T-shirt… Not that one was promised to me or anything… *cough*

  • On the way…

  • I’ll be there with my kid as well. Making the only 4 hour drive over from StL. Wednesday night and Thursday day game. Of course, the Royals screwed up my tickets twice now, so it remains to be seen if I’ll be able to actually get into the game.

  • Awesome, Paul!
I only have tix to the 6/2 game (the day after my birthday) against the Yanks at Fenway. Making the trip from NY and all the expenses associated will probably limit me to about 1 or 2 games a year in Boston…I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to any of the games in NY.

  • i’ll be at 3 games this season, all at fenway.
4/11 vs. the mariners (if the sox stick to the 5 man rotation and matsuzaka is still 3rd in the order, it would be his first start at fenway.)
6/1 against the yankees (a little excited. it has been a couple of years since i’ve been to a yankees/sox game.)
9/5 vs. the blue jays (i was there last 9/5, too… for ortiz’s first post-murmur game.)
i second the motion to start the season tomorrow (or sooner).
and i am also looking forward to a certain t-shirt… heheheh…

Yankee Fan In Boston March 15, 2007, 2:13 pm
  • We’ll get that Soxfan T-shirt out to you right away, YFiB ;-)
I think the Sox will be sticking to the five-man, specifically to give Matsuzaka, Schilling, Papelbon that extra rest as the season begins…

    Paul SF March 15, 2007, 2:42 pm
  • i just thought i’d bust some cajones while i had the chance… i’m a patient man.
and the rotation news is fantastic. thank you.

You assign some blame to Joe Torre for the Yankees’ quick ouster …
No, one thing I did not do is “blame.” I might’ve said what’s on my mind, but I don’t blame anyone.
OK then, so are you on steroids?
    No.
Best of of Luck to Gary, Good luck in Detriot.

  • What I like about Gary, is that he’s so well spoken.
“I’ve been trying to be a spokesperson for illegal stuff.”
Ok, Gary, would you like to word that different way?
