In the Wee Small Hours of the Night, Redux

A-Rod! We learned our lesson, and managed to stay up through last night’s comeback victory. An enjoyable night of baseball to be sure, with Zito in top form and Brown zipping along. A pitcher’s duel, olde style. We didn’t lose hope after the boys fell back, and when A-Rod tagged that first pitch from Rhodes in the ninth, we had a feeling all would end well, a feeling that persisted through Mariano’s rocky save (phew!).

Some other things: it looks like Bernie may be regaining his stroke at the plate, but his defense cost at least several bases last night (a double that should have been caught, Durazo taking a base on his arm).

A-Rod is growing on us, and not just the hitting. We’re learning to love the simple process of A-Rod fielding a ball and making that apparently casual but always accurate side-armed throw across the diamond to first. It’s so free and easy, and it’s always on time.

Finally: Derek: get well soon, and watch out for the dicey seafood.

  • A great game but again missed by JCL. In today’s Times I noticed that they listed Ripken as the homerun leader for shortstops with 345. A-Rod must be only a couple behind him. If A-Rod played short last night instead of Wilson he would have got closer!

  • I eyeballed the schedules for the Yanks and Sox and have rated the diffculty of each by month. Rating system: 1 = Easy; 2 = Medium; 3 = Hard. The entire season must equal 12.
    Month…….Sox………Yanks
    April……..2…………2
    May……….1…………2
    June………3…………2
    July………3…………2
    August…….1…………2
    Sept/Oct…..2…………2
I seriously could not find a month for the Yanks where it was either easy or difficult. What are your thoughts?

  • I wonder if you broke the season down into two week snippets, how those would shake out in your rating system.
