Is this the regular season, or the offseason? Pedro Martinez’ contract status should be a non-issue right now. Both the Sox and Martinez should be smart enough, at this point, to forego press battles about pending free agencies. Martinez’ declaration rings just a bit hollow – since when does he not focus on winning? He’s posturing, and I hope this is the end of the discussion. I can’t worry about whether Pedro walks for the Yankees next year, particularly not right now. I won’t get wrapped up in how the Sox treat their end-of-season contract matters at this point. Later, no doubt, but not on May 1st.
And, if the Sox win it this year, then the Yankees can go out and sign Derek, Pedro, Nomar and Jason, all of them, and try again – I won’t give a rat’s ass.
