Reading one of the best Yankees blogs, Bronx Banter, this morning, I came across this comment in a thread focusing on Derek Jeter: "i used to hate jeter just because he represented the yankees. he’s the face of your franchise–thus hatred will be concentrated on him… however, since the acquisition of alex rodriguez, i have come to genuinely like jeter by comparison. dead serious–that’s how i wound up respecting jeter; the comparison with a-rod. you may hate it, call me names, etc., and go ahead, but it’s true." Who’s the author of this comment? Well, it’s Beth, the author of the excellent Sox blog, Cursed to First; She’s such a committed Yankee-hater that I feel the perverse need to visit her site every day just to see her well-written rants against my boys in the Bronx (well, mostly she just writes well-written pieces about the Sox and Pats). So I believe this marks a kind of turning point in Yanks-Sox relations, or, rather it’s the culmination of a process that’s been a few years in the making. And I’m pleased to officially state this truism long known by the millions of Yanks fans walking this earth: Everyone loves Derek Jeter. Red Sox Nation, say it with me, Jeetah’s bettah! He’s great! His grace in the field is unmatched, his professionalism is the ideal in all of sports, he is a wonder to behold. Now that this repressed admiration has been freed from within the closed hearts of Sox fans, you members of RSN should feel free to cheer him loudly when he visits Fenway this season.
