Jorge’s Back: Yanks-Jays Gamer III

Welcome back Jorge!  Finally the Yankees offense is back to full strength (for just the third time all season, thanks PA for that nugget) and the timing is perfect.  With the Rays and Boston battling it out in Beantown it’s the perfect time to make a move.  Today the Yankees face off against the Blue Jays and Dustin McGowan.  For the Yankees it’s the Wanger on the mound.  I am 1-0 in June when I post the gamer, let’s hope that streak can continue today.  Comment away!

  • yanks take a quick lead 2-0, playing simple ABC ball in the first after a lead off walk by damon followed by a double from El Cap. Wang sounds like he is pitching better.

    Sam-YF June 5, 2008, 1:31 pm
  • GO Yanks! JORGE!

    YF June 5, 2008, 1:41 pm
  • Wang’s looking good, 4 groundouts and 2 K’s with only 26 pitches.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 1:44 pm
  • Wang loads the bases with 1 out. Eckstein is going to GIDP SO HARD right here.

    Devine June 5, 2008, 1:54 pm
  • My bad, he K’d…loser.
2-0 Yanks after the Toronto half of the 3rd.

    Devine June 5, 2008, 1:58 pm
  • How does Wang go from looking like his dominant self in two innings to completely losing any semblance of control the next?

    AndrewYF June 5, 2008, 2:05 pm
  • Just checking in. I hope the Yanks don’t regret not scoring with men at corners and one out. Not. Clutch.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 2:14 pm
  • I don’t know what’s up with Wang, but he’s been walking people a bit lately. I think part of his success as a groundballer is that he didn’t walk that many people. Ah well, let’s go!

    Lar June 5, 2008, 2:15 pm
  • Walks costing the Yanks today, also the lack of clutch hitting.
Hopefully they’ll still come up on top..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 2:28 pm
  • Wang blows up. What is going on?

    Lar June 5, 2008, 2:43 pm
  • What the hell is wrong with Wang???
Maybe this haiku sums it up best in honor of the Far East:
    wang really sucks bad
he wilts in the sun like a
    taiwanese douche bag

    krueg June 5, 2008, 2:46 pm
  • Ohlendorf is in again…this poor kids arm is going to fall off!!! I hate this team so much…(except for #2, #42 and #62)

    krueg June 5, 2008, 2:47 pm
  • Holy crap I walked away for 5 minutes and Wang shat the bed.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 2:50 pm
  • Bases loaded, nobody outs, let’s see how many runs we get back..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:03 pm
  • 2 runs on 2 outs, too bad we’re still down 7-4.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:04 pm
  • Matsui grounds out to end the inning..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:06 pm
  • hawkins?
why are they giving this game up so easily…

    Sam-YF June 5, 2008, 3:06 pm
  • how did a-rod get a sac fly to second? was it a diving play or something?

    sf rod June 5, 2008, 3:11 pm
  • Replay shows it was shallow right field in foul ground, rod. If the catcher holds the ball, Damon is out at the plate.
Three straight line-outs for Hawkins, huh?

    Devine June 5, 2008, 3:17 pm
  • Betemit comes through with a homer, and suddenly it’s a one-run game.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 3:21 pm
  • thanks d. stuck following gameday.

    sf rod June 5, 2008, 3:25 pm
  • Scratched another 2 runs, and it’s a one run game. Still plenty of game left.. maybe.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:27 pm
  • Damon got thrown out, but not the worst thing in the world, as the top of the lineup will start with a fresh batch of outs next inning..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:30 pm
  • Oh ya, I forgot about it, but if Ortiz is out and misses the All-Star game, I hope Matsui gets the nod. He is second in the league in voting for DH, and his numbers are respectable..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:31 pm
  • unreal…i love this team!!!! the espn gamecast is badass. Even has the little ball that shows the pitches and hits…sweet!

    krueg June 5, 2008, 3:32 pm
  • Hawkins still out there. Uh oh.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:32 pm
  • And promptly walks Rios on 4 pitches.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:33 pm
  • Manny- Yankee Killer #1
    Rios- Yankee Killer #2
Never pitch to these guys. Ever. Unless we someday actually get a pitching staff of course.

    krueg June 5, 2008, 3:33 pm
  • For those actually watching the game…the wife texted me that they booed Wang off the mound. Was it a weak boo or an ARod K boo circa 2006?

    krueg June 5, 2008, 3:34 pm
  • Except for Rios kind of sucks this year except for stealing bases..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:35 pm
  • …and rocking our pitchers.

    krueg June 5, 2008, 3:39 pm
  • I’m on Gameday at work too, Krueg. Wish I could have heard it… I almost feel a little bad for Wang, especially after blowing the 2007 postseason. I’m glad he’s underperforming, but I don’t hate the guy.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 3:48 pm
  • um…i’m starting to hate him. i don’t like “pitch to contact” pitchers and certainly not as a #1. The guy is soft. He would be a great #2…

    krueg June 5, 2008, 3:52 pm
  • Veras gets out of it with no damage. Let’s let get them!

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:52 pm
  • Veras is so inconsistant. One game he looks great, then two or three crap outings. Get it together man!!!!

    krueg June 5, 2008, 3:54 pm
  • krueg – the problem isn’t that he’s giving up hits, but that he’s giving up walks. Nothing to do with the pitch to contact in itself..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 3:56 pm
  • I HATE Abreu. Even when he was in Philly. He always has that stupid smirk on his face like he just got done boning your wife.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 3:57 pm
  • Ya, but he just doubled.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:00 pm
  • And moved to third on an ARod ground out. Unforunately, we’ll still need a hit to tie the game.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:00 pm
  • Matsui is 0-4.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:05 pm
  • Abreu pisses me off too! The guy is a bum in RF…never makes a play.

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:12 pm
  • Lar: yep, walks are a big problem…along with HR’s. He’s almost a ‘tweener now. Not quite a groundball/sinkerball pitcher and certainly not a strikeout artist. Who the hell knows. The guy just can’t pitch when it matters.

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:22 pm
  • Cano can’t get a bunt down and then GIDPs. As a Sox fan, I keep waiting for him to snap out of it – I’m paranoid like that – but he’s still a mess. What in the world happened to him?

    Micah-SF June 5, 2008, 4:29 pm
  • He pitched when it matters last season.. you know they probably wouldn’t have made the playoffs without a few of his wins..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:29 pm
  • His HR rates (not including today’s game) is in line with the last season, but as I said, the BB rates are way up (also with K rates). Maybe he’s in a slump, maybe it’s his approach. Get over it. No need to throw him under the bus through a bad stretch..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:32 pm
  • Men on first and second, 2 outs. If only Cano got the bunt down.. or at least not GIDP.
And as I said that, a passed ball moves them to 2nd and third. Will this be another missed opportunity or will the Yanks take advantage of it?

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:35 pm
  • Finally at a computer but have been following this madness from my b-berry. Come on Damon!

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:36 pm
  • And once again, the Yanks does not score. 7-6, one more IP to go.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:36 pm
  • D*$N!!!!! From Sterling’s call Wilkerson robbed Johnny of a 3-run dinger…

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:37 pm
  • And here comes Farns.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:39 pm
  • I can’t believe our most reliable pitcher (other than Mo) is Mike Mussina.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:39 pm
  • Why in gods name cant the yankees get down a bunt when they need to? This team is seriously lacking in the fundamentals and it hurts them almost daily.

    Sam-YF June 5, 2008, 4:40 pm
  • rios a hit…big surprise. at least it was only a single. come on farnsworthless!!!!

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:40 pm
  • Leadoff single. We sure like putting them on early and often today.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:40 pm
  • That’s pretty sad, IH. I’m really surprised Wang is struggling so much now. It’s only a few starts though, he could turn it around. Maybe high humidity makes the sinker not sink?
Whew Damon flies out, Jays out of trouble. And Farnsy comes in and promptly gives up 2 singles to start the 9th.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 4:41 pm
  • 1st and 2nd. That’s OK. I’m sure Kyle will keep everything under control…

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:41 pm
  • Awesome farnsworthless…

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:41 pm
  • i thought farnsworth didn’t pitch on consecutive day’s.

    sf rod June 5, 2008, 4:42 pm
  • Lar: yes, wang has plenty of regular season wins…awesome.

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:43 pm
  • Damon’s drive was a double at best, but of course, even a single would’ve tied it.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:43 pm
  • Now Sterling says Johnny’s knock would have been a double or triple – not a HR.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:44 pm
  • Farnsworth is going to need every one of his blackbelt skills to get out of the ballpark today.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:45 pm
  • Game. Fuck you farnsworthless.

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:45 pm
  • (sorry for the language)

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:46 pm
  • krueg – hey, you might be spoiled and take for granted that the Yanks make it to the playoffs every season, but some of us do not take it for granted.
If you want rather that Wang wins 19 games but the Yanks do not make the playoff, thus Wang doesn’t “choke”, then maybe your priorities aren’t straight..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:46 pm
  • Farnsworth on consecutive days is literally like automatic runs for the opposition. I looked it up over last year and this season and it is stunning stuff. He really just can’t do it.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:46 pm
  • IH – Torre has learned this, but apparently this new Joe has not. Ah well, so I guess all those runs not scored might not make a difference if they keep giving up all these runs..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:48 pm
  • I am so glad Farnsworth isn’t on my team. Wow.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 4:49 pm
  • Atheose – now there’s a question, would rather have Farns or Gagne? Assuming they’re both one year..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:50 pm
  • Waldman and Sterling are so depressed it is almost funny listening to them. Of course, I am depressed too, but they are ridiculous.
F-worth gets a K. 2 outs, bottom of the order. A glimmer of hope if he can get this out. 2-runs down with the meat of our order isn’t completely out of the question, even with Ryan closing.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:50 pm
  • End of inning. 3 outs to score 2 runs.
They had chances to tie it the last two innings, let’s see what they make of it..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:51 pm
  • Atheose: He is. He just goes by the name Mike Timlin.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:51 pm
  • Man, this is a game of wasted opportunities on both sides. Yanks still have a chance thanks to the Jays’ inability to get a run home from third with no outs.

    Micah-SF June 5, 2008, 4:52 pm
  • Farnsworth is going to need every one of his blackbelt skills to get out of the ballpark today.
I can totally see him karate-chopping his way through a crowd of angry pitchfork-brandishing New Yorkers.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 4:52 pm
  • Haha, this reminds me of that question “how many 5 year olds can you beat up” or something like that..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:53 pm
  • It is indeed bizaro baseball season. Mike Mussina is gunning for his first 20-win season and the Yankees are in the cellar.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:54 pm
  • No no, he would distract them all with his homemade cookies and then make a run for it.

    Micah-SF June 5, 2008, 4:54 pm
  • On the flip side, Jeter, Abreu, ARod is coming up. Though now it’s 2 runs, so it’ll take some luck or power or both..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 4:54 pm
  • Jeter leading off always gives hope, even when the odds are long…

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:55 pm
  • Jeter battles, but grounds out anyway.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:56 pm
  • Yeah, but Timlin was at least successful for a large portion of his career, and 4 rings. Farnsy has like 1 1/2 good years on his resume.
Also, Gagne is much, MUCH worse.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 4:57 pm
  • Time to leave work, goodnight gentlemen.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 4:57 pm
  • Lar: Don’t pretend to know me from an anonymous message board bro. Please. Pretty presumptuous on your part I think. I lived through the lean years (80’s and early 90’s)so I don’t think expecting a $200 million team to make the playoffs every year is unrealistic. Maybe its the small market fan in me (Buffalo Sabres) but this team is too talented to be this bad…again. You may think Wang is the best, fine. I don’t begrudge you for that. I disagree and his performance the last month as well as in the playoffs last year certainly supports my opinion. Once he becomes this great Ace that some like yourself think he is…I will gladly admit I was wrong. Hell, I hope I am wrong!

    krueg June 5, 2008, 4:57 pm
  • 2 out. Lovely. Let’s go A-Rod. Know one out just to put the exclamation point on Kyle’s suckitude.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:58 pm
  • A-Rod on. Matsui up.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 4:59 pm
  • Holy crap that run Farns gave up is HUGE now, as Matsui knocks ARod in.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 5:00 pm
  • Matsui gets on and here comes….JORGE! Come on! (thanks again kyle you f%#k!)

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:00 pm
  • Boy, the run Farnsworth gave up looks big now. Giambi in to PH…

    Micah-SF June 5, 2008, 5:01 pm
  • How did ARod get on??? My gametracker is messed up?

    krueg June 5, 2008, 5:01 pm
  • Oops – Molina had already spelled Jorge, so Giambi is brought in…

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:01 pm
  • A-Rod singled into left field off the 3B glove, then stole second on defensive indifference

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:01 pm
  • Guess I have to stick around and make sure the Jays don’t blow this.

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 5:01 pm
  • OMG did Giambi just hit a walk-off? “In Play, run(s)”

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 5:02 pm
  • Yankees win Yankees win!! !!!!!!!!!! AaGHGHAGHHEDH!!!!!! WWoo HOOo!!!!!

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:02 pm

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 5:02 pm

    krueg June 5, 2008, 5:02 pm
  • Giambi walkoff. God DAMMIT, BJ Ryan.

    Micah-SF June 5, 2008, 5:02 pm

    krueg June 5, 2008, 5:03 pm
  • Jesus-rimjobbing-christ that’s a crappy way for me to leave work. Congrats YF’s, that’s a game y’all needed to win.
    Don’t have a keyboard-seizure, IH!

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 5:03 pm
  • Feel the love Jason…Loving it. Loving it. What a crazy terrible game with a beautiful ending. Brought in to PH off BJ Ryan in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:03 pm
  • I like how you claim I’m presumptuous, but proceed to generalize “me” as people who thinks he’s the best. I don’t think he’s the best, but I don’t agree with the “The guy just can’t pitch when it matters” label that you tag on. Not that this regular season game gels with your definition of “game that matters”, apparently, since you’re so willing to overlook last season.
And then you made some dubious claim about HR being a big problem.. without looking it up or anything.
Hey, if you want to hate on the guy, that’s your choice, but I’m going defend him. He might not be an “ace”, but he’s the ace of this team, going through a bad slump. It happens.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 5:03 pm
  • “Don’t have a keyboard-seizure, IH!” Too late.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:04 pm

Posted by: Atheose | Thursday, June 05, 2008 at 05:01 PM

I just wanted to point to that and say that I am 100% responsible for the win by making that comment right before Giambi hit it. You’re welcome, YF’s!

    Atheose June 5, 2008, 5:04 pm
  • By the way, I can’t believe this game, and go Yanks.

    Lar June 5, 2008, 5:05 pm
  • Lar, Kreug, stop it guys – come one….we won! The Yanks are jamming in the clubhouse to the thong song and you guys are arguing!

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:05 pm
  • Oh yeah, that’s why I hate the Blue Jays…

    Paul SF June 5, 2008, 5:05 pm
  • Hahah, shit, that blows. Congrats Yanks fans! Giambi was pretty ugly already, but the porn mustache must have Big Stein in fits, it’s hideous.

    LocklandSF June 5, 2008, 5:06 pm
  • Ya, I had more points to make but stopped when I saw the HR, but let’s agree to disagree, etc. I just hate that we’re turning into the old-school Sox pessimism about the team…

    Lar June 5, 2008, 5:07 pm
  • HUGE WIN!!!
Giambi is the man. Amazing that Farny of all people gets the win on this near disaster of a game.

    Sam-YF June 5, 2008, 5:08 pm
  • What a freaking ugly game. The Yankees are really frankly sucking on the hill and in the field right now. And even on the basepads. Nice for the offense to bail them out, but we sure could use a couple other components of the game to come together.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:08 pm
  • It’s a turning point! and I’ve put up a thread for us to celebrate the great happenings in Yankee Universe today!

    Nick-YF June 5, 2008, 5:09 pm
  • Look, all I want to know is if there’s any way I can blame Julio Lugo for this.
That was…a pretty bad baseball game. But YFs have gotta love it, warts and all.

    Devine June 5, 2008, 5:23 pm
  • “I like how you claim I’m presumptuous, but proceed to generalize “me” as people who thinks he’s the best. I don’t think he’s the best…”
“…but he’s the ace of this team.”
Ace = the best pitcher on a team
When I say the “best”, I mean on the Yankees. I really don’t care about other teams pitchers. I guess I wasn’t clear on that. Wang is clearly not a #1 starter in my opinion. You’re right, I did let my emotions get the best of me in the moment. He certainly doesn’t suck, but he also definitely an “ace”. He is our “ace” by default and that sucks…
Sorry for bringing the party down…I don’t want to be “that guy”.
    Yankees win…theeeeeeeee Yankees win!

    krueg June 5, 2008, 5:26 pm
  • P.S. Lar, you have to understand bro, I’m from Buffalo…pessimism is in my blood!!!

    krueg June 5, 2008, 5:29 pm
  • What a finish.
IH, of course you realize that now you have to do write each and every of the Yankees gamers for the rest of the season. ;)

    attackgerbil June 5, 2008, 5:29 pm
  • As much as Giambi has had a couple sucky years for us, he has hit some extraordinarily important HRs for the Yankees over the years.

    IronHorse (yf) June 5, 2008, 5:32 pm
  • ‘Stache Power :{)

    Brian June 5, 2008, 5:33 pm
  • I’ll also say ARod was a hidden hero – 2 RBIs, got on base in the 9th to keep it going. Giambi will get all the credit, and most of it deserved, but either way..
Of course, ARod is still the reigning MVP, so most of it is expected..

    Lar June 5, 2008, 5:42 pm
  • > I’m from Buffalo
so many many fond memories of Buffalo. many 60 mile round trips in bumper traffic in and out of Orchard Park… the zoo… coin flips for who was DD in the deep snow (spinning off the thruway in deep snow outside of Batavia!) for the Sabes games… drunken blowouts at Fredonia (guess some fond memories aren’t quite remembered)… Widespread Panic at The Pier June 96 in one of the best shows I ever saw even though I don’t like Panic much… Heard the Pier got demolished. True?
ag grew up sw of rachacha.
