Just Like Last Time. Please? Sox-Sox Gamer II

Last year, the White Sox shut down the Red Sox in the teams’ first game against each other, 4-2. The BoSox then won the next seven by a combined score of 75-17. Coincidentally, the White Sox’ starter for the first of thse seven games? Why, it’s tonight’s starter, Jose Contreras! Sounds like a good sign to me… Comment away!

  • Angels just scored eight runs in the 8th and took a 11-3 lead. Yanks obviously missing Kyle Farnsworth!

  • In spite of this impressive showing I’m not too afraid of the Angels. I think they’re peaking early. They’ll be playing meaningless games all through September, not necessarily the best way to enter the post-season.
But we should definitely try to win the division in order to avoid them in the first round.
Final score in Anaheim: 11-4 Angels.

pale blue eyes August 9, 2008, 6:47 pm
  • Would be nice to take dvntage of the meltdown of the Yanks’ pen…

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 6:49 pm
  • BoSox:
    3B-Lowell (Grrrrrrr)
    CF Ellsbury

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 6:54 pm
  • Huh. Wonder why Ellsbury is 8 and Tek is 9. Conventional wisdom would certainly have that flip-flopped.
And it gets tested quick. Ellsbury up with two outs after Lowrie doubles.

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 7:36 pm
  • Ellsbury doesn’t disappoint. Too bad ‘Tek is still in the position to screw it up.
Who is injured? Suddenly mlb.tv is saying my account doesn’t authorize me to view anything. WTF?

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:39 pm
  • Holy crap Contreras out quickly. What happened?

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:40 pm
  • Don’t know, Ath. I’m not actually near a TV or radio at the moment.

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 7:41 pm
  • How did Lowrie not score there?

    SF August 9, 2008, 7:41 pm
  • Finally it’s letting me view it… f*cking mlb.tv. Waiting for a replay… the White Sox announcers are pretending like nothing is wrong. Where’s the replay?

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:42 pm
  • Contreras was covering first on a grounder to Konerko and looked to have popped his ankle or something.

    SF August 9, 2008, 7:42 pm
  • God Tek sucks.

    SF August 9, 2008, 7:45 pm
  • Varitek watches two high pitches without swinging. That doesn’t happen very often.
Then he pops it up on another crappy pitch. Sigh.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:45 pm
  • That 1-1 pitch to Thome was PRETTY as hell, it was like a slider/curve combo. Then he blows a fastball by him.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:49 pm
  • Wow, that was a lucky hit by Alexei. The pitch froze him and he barely stuck his bat out there and got a hit.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:51 pm
  • Great DP made by Youk and Daisuke.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:53 pm
  • Drew with a lead-off walk. Gorgeous. Time to rough up Carrasco and gang-bang the entire bullpen.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:57 pm
  • Pedroia singles on a “duck-snort”, to quote the announcers. They continue to talk about how awesome of a pitch it was.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 7:58 pm
  • Ortiz strikes out. Announcers staining their underwear over how amazing of a pitch it was.
    Okay, I’m muting this now.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:01 pm
  • come ON, Tito, drop Lowell a spot, put Bay at 5. What’s the goddamned problem with doing this?

    SF August 9, 2008, 8:04 pm
  • It’s going to be one of those nights. Sigh.
Anyone see George Orwell is blogging from the grave?

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:05 pm
  • 5 LOB thru three. Yippee.

    SF August 9, 2008, 8:05 pm
  • Daisuke getting squeezes.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:07 pm
  • Two bad bunts, Daisuke catches the second one. Whew.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:10 pm
  • Perzynski GIDP. Couldn’t happen to a better guy.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:10 pm
  • Frustrating game to listen to so far, made more frustrating by the inexplicable decisions to leave Lowell fifth and put Tek after the seemingly resurgent Lowrie/Ellsbury combo…

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 8:15 pm
  • Sox not getting much against Carrasco.

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 8:16 pm
  • ChiSox radio guys say Contreras ruptured his Achilles tendon and is out for the rest of the year.

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 8:17 pm
  • Grrrr… HBP to Quentin now 3-0 to Dye.

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 8:21 pm
  • Wow, sucks for the White Sox. His ERA is only 4.60 but he’s good enough to keep their offense in the game. Big blow for them.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:21 pm
  • Daisuke at 52 pitches after 4. Fantastic so far.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:25 pm
  • This was his first start back from the DL, too. And apparently they’re saying he’s out for A year, not just the rest of THE year.

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 8:25 pm
  • The good news about Varitek leading off is that he can’t GIDP.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:29 pm
  • Worst thing that happened was Contreras getting hurt. The Sox were going to light him up.
    Another terrible road effort.

    SF August 9, 2008, 8:30 pm
  • Sox’ bats forcing pitching perfection, again.
    Getting sick of this.

    SF August 9, 2008, 8:31 pm
  • another leadoff walk. Eventually these will hurt.

    SF August 9, 2008, 8:36 pm
  • Oh good, Daisuke walks the lead-off hitter again. His 1.00 WHIP for the night was worrying me.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:36 pm
  • F*cking sac bunts that turn into hits.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:37 pm
  • Wow, umpire blocks the double-play ball… just stands there in Pedroia’s way while he tried to throw it while avoiding the slide into 2nd. Lame.
And a bloop single takes the lead. Shiznit.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:41 pm
  • Pierzynski DP gets Daisuke out of trouble again. I love seeing AJ suck.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:45 pm
  • Another leadoff hit, so let’s convert!

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 8:48 pm
  • Lowell singles, Ortiz goes the 3rd and bowls over Juan Uribe. He makes up for it by giving him a hug afterwards.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:51 pm
  • Bay with another RBI to tie the game.

    Paul SF August 9, 2008, 8:53 pm
  • Bay grounds out but beats out the DP, Ortiz scores. Tie game.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 8:53 pm
  • Ellsbury with a lead-off single. Hurrah.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:05 pm
  • Oh my god not only did Varitek not GIDP, but he singled! Two on for the top of the lineup!

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:07 pm
  • Is it possible, at all possible, that Tek is going to have a decent month?

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 9:08 pm
  • Pedroia up with the bases loaded. Did anyone else bring their 3D glasses for the LASER SHOW?

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:12 pm
  • Pedroia singles, giving Daisuke the lead. Announcers downplay it by saving Boone is unlucky.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:12 pm
  • I heard that guy was really good-looking in high school.

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 9:13 pm
  • I am a little concerned about Papi. He doesn’t have an XBH in August.

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 9:15 pm
  • BIG PAPI! Ortiz misses a granny by a few feet, but it clears the bases. 5-1 Good Guys.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:15 pm
  • Stuck that was a perfectly-timed reverse-jinx.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:15 pm

  • Scoring 4 runs without making an out? Who do these guys think they are — the Angels?

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 9:19 pm
  • Nope, definitely still the Sox.
And to channel SF: SWITCH LOWELL AND BAY IN THE LINEUP. That old guy is hurt, y’know.

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 9:20 pm
  • Bay does nothing to support my point.

  • ELLSBURY HOMERS! 3 for 4 on the night, 1.143 OPS in August.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:32 pm
  • Drew’s walked 3 times tonight. And is the only Sox to walk. Weird.

    stuck working August 9, 2008, 9:34 pm

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:39 pm
  • That’s the third inning-ending GIDP that Pierzynski has hit into. I’m loving this game!
Daisuke at 106 pitches through 8… send him out for the complete game?

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:43 pm
  • Timlin in. He’s been fantastic in the last month.

    Atheose August 9, 2008, 9:54 pm
  • no Yankees game thread today?

    Ron Newman August 9, 2008, 10:32 pm
  • M’s give up a four-run lead in the sixth. Now 6-5 Rays. Blech.

    Paul SF August 10, 2008, 12:12 am
  • Seattle makes it a one-run game in the 8th with nobody out on subsequent doubles (I think).

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:08 am
  • Bunting here is retarded…and he pops out on a 3-1 pitch. Perfect.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:10 am
  • HAHAHA Ichiro is the man. Ties the game with a single slapped up the middle, not too far out of the second baseman’s reach.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:11 am
  • Onto the 9th…

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:18 am
  • Hey Devine… stupid Seattle giving up big leads.

    Atheose August 10, 2008, 1:23 am
  • Rays threaten but don’t score in top 9th.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:31 am
  • Hey Ath, ‘sup?

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:31 am
  • Ath –
What’s the status with the roommate’s girlfriend?

    rootbeerfloat August 10, 2008, 1:36 am
  • M’s threaten (barely) but don’t score bottom 9.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:43 am
  • Putz loads ’em with 1 down in the top of the 9th and Pena up.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:56 am
  • He strikes out Pena. Two down.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 1:59 am
  • BIG UPS from Betancourt on the liner off Hinske’s bat! I thought the game was in the Rays’ collective pocket, but the third out is recorded and no runs have scored. The guy warming in the pen for Seattle has a 6.xx ERA, so Seattle’s best chance is now, basically.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 2:03 am
  • Betancourt hits it hard up the middle and the leadoff man is on for Ichiro.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 2:05 am
  • Ichiro singles (he is 4 for 6, with a solo HR today) and the winning run is in effing scoring position with nobody out.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 2:06 am
  • Again, bunting here is EXTRAORDINARILY dumb.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 2:08 am
  • Bloomquist hits into a force at 2nd. He beat out the throw at 1st, but appeared to hurt himself just as he started slowing down after touching the bag. Thigh problem?

    Devine August 10, 2008, 2:11 am
  • So 1st and 3rd, one down, Ibanez up, he’s being walked to get to Beltre. Washburn (second time this year that I’ve seen said pitcher doing this) running for Bloomquist.
    Now loaded.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 2:13 am
  • Beltre fouling off a million pitches.
DP–3rd to home to 1st. Night all, doubt I’ll be up much longer.

    Devine August 10, 2008, 2:19 am
  • I can’t believe the Rays won. So pissed.

    Atheose August 10, 2008, 11:07 am
  • Hey RBF, I confronted her on Friday night and here’s how it went:
Me: “You don’t live here; you’re a guest in this apartment. And as a guest you have no right violating my room and my property. That means you don’t go in there and make out with Jon in my room, you don’t get on my computer, and you don’t go in my closet.”
Sarah: “I’ve never gone inside your room.”
Me: You did get on my computer twice last week, and then cover up your tracks by erasing the history? You didn’t go in my closet several times and rummage through some of my boxes?”
Sarah “I have never been in your room David.”
Me: “I’m going to give you one more chance to tell me the truth.”
    Sarah: “I swear”
So then I took her into my room and showed her all the video I had of her. She stormed out and left the apartment, and I haven’t seen her since. My roommate apologized to me for her actions.
