Continuing our theme from yesterday, a Sox win tonight will ensure a series win and stave off the horror and shame of losing a series to the Nationals. Get it done, boys!

  • NATSTOWN!
I feel good about Lester today. Hopefully he doesn’t prove me wrong.

  • Willingham walks.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 7:29 pm
  • Holy shit, broken bat and the ball both go right at Nick Green. The bat flies up and almost hits him in the face, he jumps up and blocks it with his arm. The ball goes into the outfield though.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 7:31 pm
  • Well, under the circumstances, that could have been worse. Sox are unlikely to get that run back this inning, though.

  • So is it too early to say: Stammen has a perfect game going?

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 7:44 pm
  • Oh and by the way, it’s not cool to give up a hit to the pitcher Lester.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 7:45 pm
  • Maple bats, specifically Rock Maple bats, need to be banned. Do we really need a fan or player killed or maimed before we realize that these things are dangerous? How many wooden spears do we need to see fly through the air and land safely before we realize the law of averages is going to catch up? These bats need to go.
    That was scary.
Big props to Green for staying with it as long as he did.

  • No, Ath, it’s never too early to mention that. But right now, I’m more concerned with Lester’s decidedly imperfect game.

  • Nationals broadcaster: “Zimmerman has grounded into 13 double plays this season.”
Wow, that’s a first class reverse-jinx right there!

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 7:49 pm
  • Agreed Lockland. For a split second it looked like it was going to impale him in the face/neck.
Well at least we’re not the only team that’s having a perfect game pitched against us through 3 innings.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 7:51 pm
  • Sure enough, the first batter up doubles. Hooray jinx!

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 7:58 pm
  • What the hell? Youkilis ejected quickly.
To be honest, Youk needed someone to tell him to STFU. He whines too much.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:01 pm
  • Nevermind, Magadan was the one ejected. Youk walks.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:01 pm
  • DAVID MOTHERF*CKING ORTIZ! 3-1!

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:07 pm
  • Wow, it really feels like Papi IS back…

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 8:08 pm
  • THE LARGE FATHER IS BACK!

    Micah-SF June 24, 2009, 8:09 pm
  • why was madagan ejected??

    rootbeerfloat June 24, 2009, 8:11 pm
  • He said like 3 words from the dugout about the strikezone. Even the Nats broadcasters were surprised how quickly he was tossed.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:13 pm
  • Great sacrifice by Lester.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:20 pm
  • Now I like the way this is going.

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 8:23 pm
  • And a nice opposite-field hit by Pedroia.
Aw, a ground rule double stops Pedroia at 3rd.

    Digit June 24, 2009, 8:23 pm
  • I’m surprised to see Drew is only hitting .250 — I thought he was around .280, but i guess he’s had a bad stretch lately?

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 8:23 pm
  • He’s only hitting .250, but his OBP is like .386. He’s slumping a bit, but he’s not too shabby.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:25 pm
  • Ladies and gentlemen, Lester has hit his groove.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:32 pm
  • Jason Varitek, 2nd-deck moon shot. 6-1 Sox.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:39 pm
  • I like your game better. Nice, Tek.

    attackgerbil June 24, 2009, 8:39 pm
  • Good timing AG, Cervelli ends the no-no.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:40 pm
  • Varitek homers?!
    NATSTOWN!

    Micah-SF June 24, 2009, 8:43 pm
  • Catcher dingers. Love’em.

    attackgerbil June 24, 2009, 8:48 pm
  • That reads rather badly. I’d like to retract that last comment.

    attackgerbil June 24, 2009, 8:48 pm
  • We never knew that about you, AG!
Great play by Lester to get the runner going home.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 8:55 pm
  • Hey Ath, I thought you said Lester was in his groove — why’d he have to go and make it interesting, huh?

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 8:57 pm
  • LEATHERFACE TIME BABY!

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 9:05 pm
  • He must have heard what I said and decided to keep us fans on our toes.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 9:06 pm
  • Well, Lester turns in a quality start — had the potential to be another great one, though.

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 9:06 pm
  • I don’t think Lugo’s getting into the starting lineup with an AB like that.

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 9:08 pm
  • Sigh. I was going to say it’s good to see Masterson, but that wasn’t very good.

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 9:24 pm
  • Brutal game for Bay.

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 9:28 pm
  • Aside from his HR, all of Varitek’s ABs have been inning-ending outs. Funny.

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 9:31 pm
  • I don’t like seeing a mortal Bay.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 9:31 pm
  • Feel a little queasy about having Masterson come back out, though I don’t think it’s the wrong call.

    stuck working June 24, 2009, 9:34 pm
  • A walk, and now it’s Oki time.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 9:41 pm
  • Sox’ offense disturbingly quiet. Sox’ bullpen disturbingly not quiet. Edge-of-your-seat game, this one.

    Paul SF June 24, 2009, 9:55 pm
  • Need three outs before you give up two, Pap.

    Devine June 24, 2009, 9:58 pm
  • Okay Paps, give us a boring inning please.

    Atheose June 24, 2009, 10:00 pm
  • 1 down.

    Devine June 24, 2009, 10:01 pm
  • 2.

    Devine June 24, 2009, 10:04 pm
  • 3 up, 3 down.

    Devine June 24, 2009, 10:05 pm
  • Too bad the Yanks won’t lose. Perfect game for the first 5 innings, then 8+ runs given up after that.
