Lester Leaps Back In

Buried amongst the Matsuzaka mayhem following yesterday’s debut is some encouraging news from down on the farm.  Jon Lester made a short start in Class A Greenville last night, and the results were promising.  According to the story, Lester was sharp, throwing strikes and touching 96 on the gun.  A return to the rotation for the lefthander seems to be more and more likely (pending a very important follow-up checkup in late April), and the added depth would no doubt boost the Sox significantly.

  • This is by far the most important story of the 2007 season. If Lester can come back and be effective, helping the Red Sox to make the post season or win the division, it will go down as one of the greatest stories in baseball history, just amazing.

  • This is a great story. I hope he makes it back; if he does, that will be a big boon to the Sox.
Worth noting, along similar lines (minus the health drama), that Phil Hughes has his first start in AAA tonight.
