Lester Looking Good

Jon Lester went five innings allowing three hits and a run to lead Pawtucket over Syracuse, 3-2 on Thursday; Curtis Hansen pitched two scoreless innings in middle relief and recorded the win.  It’s Lester’s fourth appearance on the season for the PawSox; he has a 1.62 ERA in 16 and two-thirds innings.  Congratulations are in order to the young man; here’s hoping he has a long, successful career.  Except against the Bombers, of course.

  • Best story going in baseball right now, hands down.

  • Anyone else notice that The Brew Crew have all but given up the third base platoon, and called up their top prospect, Ryan Braun. The kid rakes. I glanced over his minor stats, and he’s definitely impressive for sure.

  • “Curtis?” Is that a joke I don’t understand or’d you mean Craig? ;-)

  • Small hijack.
The Lester story is tied in my mind with Josh Hamilton. Not that I expect anyone else on this blog to watch the Reds (except when Bronson pitches).
Josh went to my son’s high school so I’ve been watching this (formerly depressing) story for a long time. It’s a lot more personal than the usual money-turns-athlete-druggie fare, he was a good kid. Just getting his life back together would’ve been a huge story, the fact that he can come back & play at this level with 3 years off since A ball is just amazing.
Both are totally inspirational. Now if we could just ignore Bonds.

  • d1: you’re right, meant Craig.. I know it’s Craig. I’m just thick-headed today; I was talking about L.A. Confidential and Director Curtis Hanson with a co-worker earlier today and it just stuck in my head. Oops :^\
