  • That first pitch looked serious! Baseball in March. Welcome back, boys.

  • I’m liking how into the game the fans are.

    NickYF March 7, 2006, 1:18 pm
  • Hats off, or rather, hats on for the uniforms here. Especially the DR togs (designed by Todd Radom, who also designed the Nationals unis). Looking very sharp.

  • Papi being Papi!!!! How can you NOT love this?!
(But, no, Harold, that was not Papi’s biggest home run ever.)

    YF March 7, 2006, 1:29 pm
  • I can’t think of any bigger homers by Papi, YF, but I also can’t remember the fall of 2004 for some reason.

    NickYF March 7, 2006, 1:31 pm
  • Another thing I’m loving about the WBC: meaningful baseball DURING THE DAY.

    YF March 7, 2006, 1:34 pm
  • Whoops! It is March.

    YF March 7, 2006, 1:37 pm
  • and now the great country of Badnewsbearsland is playing in the WBC!

    NickYF March 7, 2006, 1:38 pm
  • Woof. They should make Soriano wear one of those Korea hats with the giant K.

    YF March 7, 2006, 1:40 pm
  • Wow. Moises Alou has a kid named for Kirby Puckett. Nice detail.

    YF March 7, 2006, 1:44 pm
  • Hugo Chavez: take that!

    YF March 7, 2006, 2:50 pm
  • Cabrera! A comeback? Could it be? 6-3 DR.

    YF March 7, 2006, 2:58 pm
  • Lucky YF, getting to watch the WBC. I got to help the biz partner change a tire after a massive tire blowout on the FDR, and am now stuck back at the PC. But it sure is nice to see “Papi!!” on the blog again.

    SF March 7, 2006, 3:13 pm
  • Yeah. And if he could restrict his homers to the WBC that would be even better.

    YF March 7, 2006, 3:17 pm
  • Controversy!

    YF March 7, 2006, 3:38 pm
  • Articulate, please! Some of us aren’t able to watch!!!!

    SF March 7, 2006, 3:38 pm
  • Cabrera pops a double off the top of the wall. Looks like a dinger, but it’s not. Umps get it right. End of Controversy. 6-5 DR.

    YF March 7, 2006, 3:57 pm
  • Why didn’t Guillen move Vizquel over after his leadoff double? They were down by two in the 7th. I thought execution would be a major factor in determining the outcomes of these games.

  • Well, the Bonds revelations have us distracted, and I suppose we’re not alone. Meanwhile, USA and Mexico are on. Damon leades off. Jeter follows. I have a feeling we’re going to see A LOT of that down the line.

    YF March 7, 2006, 4:21 pm
  • Yanks: 0-3 in the first. Meanwhile, the DR is putting the hurt on Venezuela.

    YF March 7, 2006, 4:23 pm
  • Isn’t the line up something like soriano, tejada, pujols, ortiz? Who are those guys?

    walein March 7, 2006, 4:24 pm
  • Two double plays in two innings for the US. Was that second one a 3-6-3 double play?

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 4:29 pm
  • I heard George told them to throw the game so they could get back to FLA faster.

    Nate March 7, 2006, 4:31 pm
  • Um, I meant the US defense made two double plays in two innings. Still 0-0 in the bottom of the 2nd.
Dominican Republic won 11-5 against Venezuela. That must have been some 8 and 9th innings.
Oh, and the obligatory replay of the A-Rod/Veritek brawl.
    End of the second, 0-0.

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 4:34 pm
  • derek with the hit. how strange it is to see him in a non-yankee uni.,,,,

    YF March 7, 2006, 4:51 pm
  • Top of the 4th and still 0-0.
That Peavy looks like he has some nasty stuff. Was that only 23 picthes in 3 innings with 3 strikes?

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 4:54 pm
  • Derek Lee with a one-run homer. US up 1-0.

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 5:06 pm
There. Got the jingoistic crap out of my system. All better.

    SF March 7, 2006, 5:12 pm
  • Damon just had a nice triple.

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 5:20 pm
  • Ooppss, Jeter just fouled a ball into his leg and limped out of the batter’s box.
I think I heard King George’s heart stop from here.
    Looks like he is okay.

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 5:21 pm
  • Get Wheelah outta there!!!

    YF March 7, 2006, 5:27 pm
  • A-Rod finally got a hit.

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 5:34 pm
  • And A-Rod and Jeter are out of the game.

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 5:38 pm
  • Huh, another double play. What’s that, four in one game?

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 5:40 pm
  • Chipper Jones homers in the bottom of the 7th. USA up 2-0.

Joe in NYC March 7, 2006, 5:46 pm
  • Game over, USA 2, MEX 0.
Not a bad game. It’s just good to have baseball to watch again.
And yeah, YF, it was weird seeing Jeter in a different uniform.
