The Yankees’ jury-rigged, ad-hoc lineup of the walking-wounded, elderly, and inexperienced takes the field tonight against another team with postseason aspirations: the Oakland A’s, who throw former Cy winner Barry Zito and his ginormous curveball. The good news for the Yanks: Chien-Ming Wang is on the hill, and if he’s right, the outfield—whomever is out there—shouldn’t be too, too busy. Anyway, this is you place for comment on all the action. Let’s just hope (pray, for goodness sake) no one else gets hurt.

A-Rod to Phillips, nabs Kotsay to get things going. Nice.
Great start for Wang.
Bernie batting 5th? Uh…
Torre still thinks it’s 1998.
I guess that’s a lefty split thing.
Johnny D. Stolen base attempt some time here against the big windup/hook?
Yeah, Bernie has been stronegr against lefties these past two years
DP. Unlucky. About the easiest 3-6-3 DP you’ve ever seen.
O. M. G.
to clarify, since I’m not watching and just following game channel: The O.M.G. was about the Giambi steal. right? No one else got hurt?
A-Rod still having trouble with that high heat. I thought the previous pitch was a strike, as well. Speaking of which, how awesome is the Giambi stolen base? Looked like he was running in a foot of water out there. You could time him with a sundial.
Yeah. The OMG was the Giambi stolen base. Which was worth the price of admission. Not that I’m there. Awesome.
Looks like it’s just the administrators here tonight…
I can deal with Bernie batting 5th…but why must he play right field? Is it the Classical Guitar Arm Canon?
Is the sox game happening SF?
Sox game in the second inning, 1-0 Texas. The game appears to be occurring at a significant elevation – the mist makes Fenway look enveloped by clouds. It’s odd, almost feels like an early April game circa 1982, few fans and the Sox looking terrible.
How come the Yankees announcers are talking as if Matsui is dead? Their tone is absurdly morose. It’s not like the Yankees don’t still have a very good lineup – you’d think their charter flight crashed into the Andes the way Kay and Kaat are discussing them.
Barry takes advantage of the youth.
There was talk that they had to eat from the carcass of Rick Cerone in order to make it thru.
Matt Clement looks like garbage. Just leave him in, see if the game gets rained out. Either that or hook him RIGHT NOW, Tito. One of the two – no in between “leave him in for three more batters and then yank him in the third”. Either you just let him roast or take him out asap.
Sorry, wrong thread…
I was listening to John Sterling in my car a few minutes ago, and he commented on Zito: “he’d like to go play in a big city.” Gotta love that famous NYC-centric worldview! :)
(i.e. “What is this ‘Oakland’ I keep hearing of? Is that a city?”)
He meant to say “He’d love to play in a big city with extra Money for an extended contract.”
If Zito gets a shutout tonight…Steinbrenner might have him in pinstripes by the end of 2009
What Nick might not tell you is that GIDP are counted in our fantasy league…and I have Wang…this is mine and the Yankees come back game!
Marco Brosiouso
A-Rod! That’s a homer that puts the Yanks into the lead. To me, that’s clutch, but you can call it whatever the heck you want. 1-0.
I agree YF. Poor Bernie…man, he could have had that one for a single. Got to sign off for now and watch it over at a tv that doesn’t have the good internets.
Finally.
Leave in Wang!
BERNIEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
Feel the Powah!
Who need Mats and Sheff? Onward and Upward. Huge props to Mr. Wang and A-Rod.
If there could be such a thing as “vintage Wang”, that would be it. Let’s hope we see some more of that.
Mo definitely made it interesting to the end, though.
Oh Mo! Why’d Torre rob Wang of a shutout? Three outs away and he may have gotten their easier than Rivera. Oh well, he could use the work.
It’s interesting that Wang’s strongest career start featured 0 k’s. Perhaps, Mel’s insistence last year that he pitch to contact makes sense for Wang. When he goes for the k’########## he loses control a bit.
Not sure why the # are there. Oh well.
Lucky enough to go to the Stadium tonight. Wang looked completely dominant. Grounder, grounder, grounder… He definitely got help from Cano and Phillips, though, flashing the leather behind him. Jeets, too. Really fun game to watch, esp. with Zito pitching well, too. A-Rod’s shot was a rocket. It was no surprise that Joe went with Mo for the save, but it would have been cool if Wang got the CG. Anyway, definitely a nice game to pick us all up…
Lucky Spidey. Couldn’t really ask for a better game. Great pitching, defense, drama, a win for the home team, and all over in about 2.5 hours. Throwback night.
I know he’s a dick and a cheat, but is there really any reason excuse for the fact that ESPN 2 is running karate right now, and not Barry Bonds’s attempt at 714?
