Manny’s Simulacrum

No, this post isn’t about Umberto Eco’s newest tome.  Instead, I use this opportunity to point everyone to this pimped-out architectural folly.

A cool room, no doubt, though as someone in the design world I question the sub-Brunelleschian use of perspective (the famous scoreboard in dead-center?) and what appears to be a power outlet embedded mere inches from a toddler’s pillow.

  • Are those stars over the monster, or Sheffield dingers?

  • SF, you obviously hate fun. I was shocked to see this post credited to you. I thought the hatin’ on Manny around here was only done by YF.

  • Hey, I’m only hatin’ on outlets right next to a kid’s head. And also bad architectural representations of sacred ground (where’s John-YF when you need him?).
Other than that, Manny Jr.’s living the dream. At least until Dad gets traded to the Yankees.

  • You know the same architectural charrette that invented the Green Monster seats had a preservation and renovation plan that would have turned the field around one year, so that home was out in the current right field. This would have put the Green Monster in right for that season.
This was part of an alternative plan for Save Fenway Park to really upgrade the seating and food services without closing Fenway for a season. Janet Marie Smith, who built Camden Yards, is doing a great job of working on Fenway without that obviously controversial step.

  • Uh, I know that sign exists, but does Manny have an endorsement deal with Citgo? I mean, could that logo be any friggin’ bigger and more central? Way to get Manny Jr. off thinking about hitting dingers and dreaming instead of Venezuelan Big Oil and the dominance of ruthless industry over sport…

  • In regards to Manny Jr’s Bedroom the things that look like power outlets are actually lights on the side of the bed. I know because I was on the photoshoot. It’s an incredible room and all light sockets in the room, which are not pictured, had child proof plugs in them so Manny Jr is safe.
