  • For a couple of years now, I’ve been hoping Nosemar would wind up in NY. I think it would be hysterical. And of course, it would also be further proof that Steinbrenner is actually more interested in building trophy cases than he is owning a baseball franchise.

  • I think that Nomar would be a great almost-everyday utility player for the Yankees. I think he still has a lot of pop in his bat and is very versitile in terms of the positions he can play. He would allow us to rest our other key players (Matsui, Sheff, Giambi, etc.) as needed without major defensive sacrifices.
The only downside is that he might remember me from all those Yankees-Red Sox games when I would yell “Hey Nomar, was that your mom I saw dancing on a pole at Scores last night?”
That could be bad for me.

  • What does not make sense:
Why would Nomar agree to a one year cheap deal with the Yanks when so many other teams have offered him better options. This is the year that will lead Nomar into his last big contract, why would he agree to split time at a position with which he does not know how to play and will probably expose even more of his weaknesses?
My guess is Nomar takes a shot at second or third base, full-time, and on the west coast.
Besides, do Yankee fans really want the guy that was forced out of Boston for being such a pre-madonna, and refused to get off the bench to help his team in a big game?
Is that roster spot worth the joy you take in pointing to Nomar as your new Red Sox player hitting for the Yankees?
If you answer yes, then you really have your baseball priorities out of whack. The Yankees need bullpen help in a serious way -not another utility infielder/DH. But, I leave it to Steinbrenner to worry more about the headlines than the results in the offseason transactions, and he NEVER lets me down.

  • Bill Mueller to the Dodgers. 2-year deal pending physical.

  • Yeah, I really wanted him to go to Pittsburgh rather than waste away in LA.
I think the Pirates have much more immediate upside than does LA, and I really like Bill Mueller, so I’d like to see him on a winning team.
