MVP!

Red Sox record in games when David Ortiz homers: 23-2.

Twins record in games when Joe Mauer homers: 14-12

Yankees record in games when Derek Jeter homers: 13-4

Since June 6, Ortiz has a .922 OPS and been on a 44-homer, 123-RBI pace. No racking up gaudy numbers in the early months for him. No, sir. He's been hitting when it counts. Give the man his trophy!

    hehe ;)

  • Here’s another one:
Ellsbury collected stolen base No. 66 last night. The last time an AL player stole 66 bases in a season was 1998, when Rickey Henderson stole 66. Hard to believe that’s the most stolen bases in the AL in 11 years.
(Detroit’s Brian Hunter led the league with 74 in 1997, and Cleveland’s Kenny Lofton led the AL with 75 in 1996).

  • This means nothing. Where are the stats on the Yankee record in those games in which Jeter does the jump-throw!?!?

  • what’s our record since krueg and his alter ego krueg reincarnate started doing his/their patented rants?

  • Just for fun…
Yankees Record when A-Rod plays: 77-40
    Yankees Record when A-Rod doesn’t play: 20-16
    Difference in Win%: +.129
Boston Record when Papi plays: 85-56
Boston Record when Papi doesn’t play: 6-5
    Difference in Win%: +.057
Twins Record when Mauer plays: 66-61
Twins Record when Mauer doesn’t play: 13-12
    Difference in Win%: .000
I’m actually a little surprised A-Rod hasn’t really gotten mentioned in the MVP debate. I mean, he clearly doesn’t have the season stats to get the award, but I’m not sure any other player has had such a dramatic impact on his team’s record.
Just think, if NY had gone their pace without Alex for the entire season, they’d only be 1.5 games up on Texas in the Wild Card chase and 6.5 games behind Boston in the division.
Mauer will, and should, get it. But hopefully, at least for YFs, this season will finally help prove just how valuable A-Rod is to this team.

Strange, he didn’t even wait the normal 3ip to pull him:)
Of course, I’m kidding, but I wonder why – how close is he to his limit?

  • Ok, one more time-consuming, ultimately pointless stat-dump before I’m finished procrastinating and go back to work…
When A-Rod plays, the Yankees have scored 1.288 times more runs than they’ve allowed (657-510).
When A-Rod doesn’t play, the Yankees have only scored 1.014 times more runs than they’ve allowed (210-207).
    That’s a difference of +.274
When Papi plays, Boston has scored 1.206 times more runs than they’ve allowed (756-627).
When Papi doesn’t play, Boston has scored 1.383 times more runs than they’ve allowed (65-47).
    Difference: -.177
When Mauer plays, the Twins have scored 1.089 times more runs than they’ve allowed (642-590).
When Mauer doesn’t play, the Twins have actually scored .829 *fewer* runs than they’ve allowed (102-123).
    Difference: +.259
    Whew.

  • Jeez, Krueg. That story is, at first glance, kind of funny. But it’s really pathetic, and the teacher should be suspended at the very least, what an utterly stupid and mean thing to do to a kid.
I mean, the kid’s already clearly working with less brain matter than everyone else, there’s no reason to rub his nose in it.

“Red Sox Fan teacher, I’mma let you finish, but first let me say this, the Yankees are the best team of all time. The best team of all time!”

    AndrewYF September 25, 2009, 3:08 pm
  • Yeah, I liked that comment too. But pretty much anything that invokes that Kanye thing is gonna be hilarious for at least another two weeks.

I think everyone in and around Syracuse has less brain matter… ;)
It was clearly over the line, but it’s not like the kid is going to have issues moving forward. I just thought it was kinda funny, at least much better than reading about a fan getting killed or beat up over a stupid game…

  • How about when Varitek gets a hit?

    krueg reincarnate September 25, 2009, 5:20 pm
  • Varitek gets a hit so infrequently that the difference is negligible.

    I'm Bill McNeal September 25, 2009, 5:30 pm
  • Although, Krueg, I would like to know the Yankees’ record when Varitek gets a hit.

    I'm Bill McNeal September 25, 2009, 5:36 pm
  • Bill- I scrounged it together from Baseball Prospectus, mostly. They have “game logs” for the entire season.
And the Yankees are 8-4 in games when A-Rod has grounded into a double play.

Rex Manning Day September 25, 2009, 5:46 pm
  • And before anybody asks…
The Yankees are 10-7 in games when Jeter’s grounded into a double play.
Also, just for giggles- the Red Sox are 35-21 when Varitek gets a hit (.625), 25-24 when he doesn’t get a hit (.510), and 29-16 when he doesn’t play (.644).
In games against the Yankees, it’s 2-2 with a Varitek hit, 6-2 without a Varitek hit, and 1-2 when Varitek doesn’t play.

Rex Manning Day September 25, 2009, 6:16 pm
  • so….varitek is playing tonite, now he just needs to go hitless and the sox will walk with a win.
