Next Stop Palookaville Koronkaville: Rangers-Yanks Gamer II

We were sad last week when the Koronka vs. DiNardo matchup was rained out in Boston. That one sounded more like a battle of heavyweights, circa 1932, than a 21st-century pitching line. Tonight, weather permitting, the Yanks and their now anemic offense get their shot at Koronka. Chacon on the hill for the Yanks. We’ll be watching. And this is your place for commentary…..

  • Not the greatest start. 2-0 after a half inning. This offense don’t need no uphill climbs. oy vey.

    YF May 16, 2006, 7:16 pm
  • 2 runs seems like a mountain to climb indeed.

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 7:18 pm

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 7:49 pm
  • 9-0. And we may never see Aaron Small again. How quickly the mighty fall.

    YF May 16, 2006, 7:51 pm
  • Yikes, I almost feel bad for y’all. (Almost.) This may be one short thread tonight.

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • Or “how quickly one regresses to the mean”, rather.

    Anonymous May 16, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • And now they plunk Cano? This could actually get uglier.

    YF May 16, 2006, 7:58 pm
  • Did a Ranger get plunked?

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 8:03 pm
  • WEEI announcers for the Sox just mentioned Sturtz (spelling) maybe done for the season with a torn rotator cuff… first i head of it, wasnt sure if ya’ll heard anything on that.

    Travis May 16, 2006, 8:26 pm
  • I think a tumbleweed just blew through this thread.

  • the good news: We’re now entering the heart of the line-up.

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 8:56 pm
  • Cano grounds out, and it’s a 5 run lead.

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 8:56 pm
  • away board: The Sox lose the lead, and 133 becomes the number of the year.

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 8:57 pm
  • Old Man Bernie gets the BB. The rally continues…

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 8:58 pm
  • Andy Phillips is up and I’m assuming Karonka’s out of the game.

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 8:59 pm
  • Phillips doubles to right! And the formidable Migeul Cairo comes to bat.

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 9:01 pm
  • surprise surprise. Cairo kills the rally.

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 9:02 pm
  • leaving work. Will the Yanks do the impossible?

    NickYF May 16, 2006, 9:04 pm
  • Christ. Watching our prize catcher get drilled in a blowout. TOTAL NIGHTMARE.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:14 pm
  • is this the wrong time to bring up the fact that Cairo makes more money than Jonathan Papelbon and Kevin Youkilis combined?

    airk May 16, 2006, 9:15 pm
  • YF – who might that be?

    Tom sf May 16, 2006, 9:16 pm
  • Derek! (what blowout?)

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:18 pm
  • This is the biggest comeback of the year. Rangers pitching is even worse than the Orioles.

    Tom sf May 16, 2006, 9:20 pm
  • DJ!! Captain Clutch!

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 9:21 pm
  • would it be worth pointing out that loretta makes roughly 10 times cano? not really. so let’s not go down that road.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:21 pm
  • Just a reminder to the panicky YFs out there, something I posted in the second inning, warning of early Ranger celebrations:
“We should all remember that the Yankees have a good team and the Rangers’ pitchers, uh, still suck.
Posted by: SF | Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 08:04 PM”

    SF May 16, 2006, 9:22 pm
  • Jorge! Retribution time!

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:23 pm
  • i get the feeling that the heart-attack rate among Rangers fans will be remarkably high for the next 5 months or so.

    airk May 16, 2006, 9:24 pm
  • Will this be one of those patented New York press “this is the game that turned the season around, that marked the begninning of something special” blather opportunities?

    SF May 16, 2006, 9:26 pm
  • Gotta wonder how you walk a guy who practically had a concussion in the previous inning.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:27 pm
  • sf: the yanks are still down, and the yanks need 9 more ranger outs themselves.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:28 pm
  • Bernie!!

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 9:30 pm
  • Bernie!!!

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:30 pm
  • PANIC PANIC PANIC
I wasn’t the one that posted that. Such a soothsayer you are. You take the credit when you are right, but can’t give out the credit when someone else makes a call. What an egotist.

    SF May 16, 2006, 9:31 pm
  • What is AP looking at? He should have been ready for that. And now Miguel Cairo, DH. That’s not good.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:34 pm
  • SF: Congrats you sooth-sayer. Happy now? Let’s just hope your prognostications come through.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:35 pm
  • Miggy Cairo!!! YES!!

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 9:37 pm
  • MIGGY MIGGY MIGGY!!!!
How much does he make? NOT ENOUGH!

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:37 pm
  • SF: You win! I think that’s called a Pyhrric victory.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:38 pm

  • And the Proctologist giveth away.! Grrr.

    Anonymous May 16, 2006, 9:46 pm
  • What’s wrong with Proctor? Proctor’s wrong with Proctor. Proctor is as Proctor does.

    YF May 16, 2006, 9:47 pm
  • And Proctor w/ the k to close the inning. better late than never.

    Anonymous May 16, 2006, 9:56 pm
  • In other news, looks like Russ Springer decided to speak for a lot of ugly fans, and just repeatedly threw a series of pitches at him, finally connected, and was tossed. we’re not barry fans, but we’re not huge fans of vigilantism either.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:00 pm
  • Derek bunt single. We’ll take it, but we’re not crazy about a guy who just knocked a 3-run dinger laying one down.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:01 pm
  • A-Rod check swing out at 2-0. GRRR.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:04 pm
  • Jorge w/ Damon on 3rd, Jeets at 2nd :
    1-0
    1-1 (foul)
    2-1
    2-2 (foul)
    everything outside
Jorge sac to left center! Twelvsies!

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:07 pm
  • All right, Jorgie. Way to get the run home. What a game!

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 10:08 pm
  • Mayhay faces Cano w/ Jeets at 3rd, 2 out.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:11 pm
  • If nothing else, at least the offense has woken up….

    yankeemonkey May 16, 2006, 10:11 pm
  • Cano w/ the walk! Hoot!

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:13 pm
  • Well, at least it’s tied.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:15 pm
  • what a ridiculous game!

    airk May 16, 2006, 10:16 pm
  • And on comes the Farns. Cringe.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:17 pm
  • Farns 0-2 on Teixeira:
    fastball outside: 1-2
    fastball outside: 2-2
    slider: k
gotta question why he’s not going high and tight with a heater in that sequence. he hangs the slider and it’s 13-12.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:20 pm
  • Nevin pops to right

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:20 pm
  • And a nice 0-2 slider in the dirt to k blaylock.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:22 pm
  • Note that the blaylock slider was a good pitch: out of the zone. the pitch that k’ed teixeira was over the plate.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:23 pm
  • AP down 6-3. All of a sudden it’s a defensive battle.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:24 pm
  • And Cairo also out 6-3.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:26 pm
  • Young makes the nice over-the-shoulder grab to put down Bubba, who had a good cut at 1-1. Looks like Joe’s gonna bring in Mo here, and if he shuts the door the Yanks put the top of the order up in the bottom of the ninth, with the chance to walk off.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:29 pm
  • Crap. Mench blooper to center opens the 9th.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:34 pm
  • Adrian Brown looks a bit like Rickey. Let’s hope he doesn’t run like Rickey.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:35 pm
  • Wilkerson 2-strike bunt. not a great play, but it “works.”

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:37 pm
  • DaRosa walks. Fine. Barajas up w/ the 2xplay in order.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:40 pm
  • Crap. Mariano not missing bats at all. THAT is a concern.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:42 pm
  • Brown scores on a single past Slappy McBluelips Alex Rodriguez, Texas 13 Yankees 12.

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 10:43 pm
  • Cano saves a run on GMJR. Sheesh.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:43 pm
  • Cano saves a run on GMJR. Sheesh.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:43 pm
  • Make that a double.
But now there are 2 outs as Cano holds runner on grounder.

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 10:44 pm
  • In other news, the LAAoA are up 1-0 on Toronto in the 3rd… If anyone cares.

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 10:45 pm
  • Nice 4-1 putout of Young to end the 9th. Okay. Top of the order needs to produce.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:45 pm
  • To the bottom of the 9th. Got any nails left, Yanks fans?

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 10:46 pm
  • I’ve been abandoned by Nick and the Gerbil tonight. Sad.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:47 pm
  • Wow. Astros keep throwing high and tight to Bonds even after a warning until Bonds gets beaned almost in the head!

    airk May 16, 2006, 10:48 pm
  • Well, at least we got the right guys coming up…

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 10:48 pm
  • This would be a truly rousing victory if New York can come back one more time… Deeply frustrating if not.

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 10:49 pm
  • Damon with the slapper off Tex! What happens to Otsuka’s delivery with men on?

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:49 pm
  • That was outside!

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:50 pm
  • Crap. 0-2 to DJ. Come on, Derek…

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 10:50 pm
  • Alright. At least he moves the runner. Let’s go Alex!

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:52 pm
  • 1 out, man on 2nd… Here comes “the 3rd baseman.”

    Hudson May 16, 2006, 10:53 pm
  • No luck. That ball was pretty crushed.

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:54 pm
  • Damn. Sounded like ARod tagged that one.
    Let’s go, Jorgie!

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 10:54 pm
  • Come on Jorge!

    YF May 16, 2006, 10:55 pm
  • YEEEEAAHH!!!! JORGE!!!

    Spidey May 16, 2006, 10:56 pm
  • WHAT A GAME!!

That was a heck of a game, and yet the Sox thread is like double this one, with another ho-hum victory over the shockingly still-hapless hapless Os.
    And yeah. Go Fievel!!
