No Chance?: Sox-Mariners Gamer IX

Conventional wisdom tells us that a Clay Buchholz (near 6 ERA) – Felix Hernandez (sideways cap and MEAN stuff, polished already) in Safeco is as close to a guaranteed loss as one can imagine for our boys.  But games are, as they say, played on the field and not in the highly negative mind of overworked keyboard tappers.  So to that end, the Sox will take the field today, they will try to win, and they may, in fact, emerge victorious.  But we will most definitely not be betting.

Discuss the getaway game here.

  • Manny out today with king Felix itis…err, I mean a sore right knee. not a good feelign about this game, but the Mariner’s lineup is very weak, so maybe it’s be decided in the 9th inning.

  • Am I the only one annoyed by the sideways cap phenomenon? Maybe it’s my newly realized old age, but it bothers me…

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 4:31 pm
  • Not just the sideways cap but the flat bill, too.
    How geeky.

  • A real screwup at MLB.com.
WEEI has the game today but after starting the pregame, mlb.com switches to WRKO and I’m getting the blathering W apologist Howie Carr. Worse, he cites Rush in his own defense.
    I need a shower.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 4:38 pm
  • Reverse jinx? =P

    Lar July 23, 2008, 4:38 pm
  • How so, lar?

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 4:41 pm
  • But inDemand picks up the NESN feed.
    Excellent.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 4:43 pm
  • Was referring to the title of the post, not your posts.. =)

    Lar July 23, 2008, 4:45 pm
  • MLB.tv’s reception is awful today. How am I supposed to get nothing done at work if the game is unwatchable!?

    SF July 23, 2008, 4:45 pm
  • Ah. got it.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 4:46 pm
  • in Boston visiting a friend and it’s rainy. Anyway, I’m checking this game out on NESN. I like Remy. This other guy is boring.

  • Raul Ibanez-the guitarist from Rage Against The Machine.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 4:53 pm
  • uggg, couldn’t stand the KOMO guys when I lived in Tacoma, and since the feed is wrong, have to list to RIzz and Blowers. yuck

    dw (sf) July 23, 2008, 4:55 pm
  • nasty 12 to 6 curve gets Ibanez swinging. Good inning for Clay.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 4:55 pm
  • But a NICE first inning from Bucky.
That pick off of Itchy was HUGE.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 4:56 pm
  • Come on, Nick. Raul Ibanez is a BRAND of guitar.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 4:56 pm
  • Is Lowrie the first major leaguer named Jed?

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 5:00 pm
  • And up comes the rally killer.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 5:01 pm
  • The feed seems to be fixed, at least for me.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 5:04 pm
  • but he looks so much like that guy from Rage. One of these days I’m going to do a post about the dopplegangers in baseball.
Raul Ibanez: The Guitarist from Rage Against the Machine
Doug Mirabelli: David Remnick from the New Yorker
Ronny Beliard: The love child of Manny Ramirez and Manny Ramirez

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:05 pm
  • Jesus, Jose Vidro has an OBP of .266 and is the DH. That’s embarrassing. Who runs the Mariners? The last place team owner in my fantasy league?

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:06 pm
  • How often does Jacoby swing at the first pitch? I hate it when Manny does it, but at least it’s, uh, Manny, a Hall of Famer. Ellsbury did it last night, he just did it again. He needs a good talking-to.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:18 pm
  • SF July 23, 2008, 5:19 pm
  • Pedroia singles, two on base with one down.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:21 pm
  • Felix is pitching like DMat today! =P (King Felix is on one of my fantasy teams..)

    Lar July 23, 2008, 5:21 pm
  • wow! Ichiro steals a homer away from Drew. Nice play. He’s the Anti-Abreu out there.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:22 pm
  • Did Ichiro just go over the wall to catch a ball? Gameday shows the catch being made behind the fence.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:22 pm
  • dammit

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 5:22 pm
  • Apparently, based on the comments, yes.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:23 pm
  • Yoooooooooooooooooouk!

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:23 pm
  • Ichiro doesn’t do such a good job on Youk’s single which ends up scoring two instead of the 1 it should have.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:23 pm
  • Except for he actually gave up the runs. Ah well.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 5:23 pm
  • AW, I could’a done that. I figured you could only search by last name.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 5:24 pm
  • Yoooouuuuuk!

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 5:24 pm
  • Ichiro taketh away, and Ichiro giveth.

    Brownie July 23, 2008, 5:24 pm
  • The Drew hit was close. It looked like it was heading out, but it might have hit the top of the wall.
King Felix doesn’t look sharp today.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:24 pm
  • Jacoby needs to go to the plate with a plan. He seems confused up there.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 5:25 pm
  • I wonder with Ellsbury how you learn pitch recognition if you don’t see any pitches.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:25 pm
  • 4 hits, three walks for the Sox, only two runs. King’s ERA is over 2.00, so not really Daisuke-esque at all.
55 pitches for Hernandez thru three.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:29 pm
  • Sorry, WHIP, not ERA.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:29 pm
  • that was one of the more awkward/athletic plays by Buccholz, as the ump calls the runner safe.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:33 pm
  • “single on a ground ball to Clay Buchholz”.
LaHair is a big first baseman, he can’t have bunted – was it a rope that Clay knocked down?

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:33 pm
  • Nick, SoSHers (a reliable sort!) all seem to indicate the replay showed the runner out. Is that accurate? Or was it too close to call?

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:36 pm
  • he didn’t bunt. I wasn’t listening that closely but it sounds like it was a legitimate attempt to hit.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 5:36 pm
  • It was a high chopper that Clay caught falling backwards, and made a good throw from his ass that appeared to beat the runner.

    Brownie July 23, 2008, 5:39 pm
  • Ichiro out, Lowell to Youk. Man on second, two down.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:39 pm
  • Ichiro out, Lowell to Youk. Man on second, two down.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:39 pm
  • it was a high chopper that went over the mound. In going back he stumbled and fell to the ground, ended up catching the ball on his back and making a hard throw from his back.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:40 pm
  • yeah, he was out.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:41 pm
  • Clay, despite only three baserunners in three innings, is not throwing efficiently. Paps not available either, I wouldn’t think. Yikes.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:44 pm
  • Terry Francona: Fred Savage’s younger brother whatshisface?

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:44 pm
  • Felix reearned the “King” moniker, if only for one inning as he got through that one really quick. 61 pitches through 4.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 5:46 pm
  • Way to work those counts, bottom of the order!
God, Coco and Tek, if you aren’t going to hit, at least see three pitches each, right?

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:46 pm
  • god, typepad is pretty screwed up recently. Hard time following the thread here. Anyway, a very quick 1,2,3 inning for the King. I think he did that in 5 pitches.

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:46 pm
  • Victory! Thanks to flash floods my class is cancelled. Happy to see us ahead against Felix.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 5:49 pm
  • Yeah, Nick, Typepad has been brutal.

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:49 pm

    Nick-YF July 23, 2008, 5:49 pm

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:49 pm

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:54 pm

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 5:57 pm

    SF July 23, 2008, 5:58 pm

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:01 pm
  • Does anyone know Ellsbury’s PPA?

    SF July 23, 2008, 6:04 pm
  • Afraid to look, SF.
Buchholz gets a 1-pitch out to start the 5th.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:06 pm
  • what’s PPA?

    soxgirl July 23, 2008, 6:06 pm
  • 1414 pitches in 345 AB, or about 4.1 pitches per AB.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:08 pm
  • Not including today’s game, of course.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:08 pm
  • 8-pitch inning, with some nice defense by Buchholz and Lowrie. 75 pitches after 5, pretty damn good.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:09 pm
  • Sorry, that’s 388 PA (as opposed to AB’s), so that’s 3.65 a PA.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:10 pm
  • Red Sox have ~75% chance of winning as of right now.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:15 pm
  • Bases loaded, no outs for Lowrie-Tek-Crisp.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:16 pm
  • With the walk, it’s actually 82% now. They should win a tough one against King Felix.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:16 pm
  • Lowrie is 2 for 4 career with the bases loaded? Wow, not bad for someone whose only played in like 20 games.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:17 pm
  • King Felix at 97 pitches, so probably last inning for him in some way.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:19 pm
  • Lowrie K’s. I smell a Varitek GIDP.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:20 pm
  • Ick. But I’ll take a K over a GIDP. Crisp can hit his fastball.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 6:21 pm
  • Good, only a strikeout by Varitek.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:21 pm
  • 3-0 pitch to Crisp with the bases loaded..

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:22 pm
  • Or not!

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 6:22 pm
  • Walks in a run – do those pitches look as close as on GameDay?

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:22 pm
  • OK, jacoby. What’s your plan? Look for a pitch to hit, not to hit a pitch.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 6:23 pm
  • Well, we get onem but it’s still an enormous squander.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 6:25 pm
  • King Felix got out of that one, giving up one run on a bases loaded walk. Is that all you need against this offense? We’ll see!

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:25 pm
  • Sox now at 74% chance of winning.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:25 pm
  • Bases loaded, no outs, and we score one. THAT’s why we are sucking on the road.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:31 pm
  • I’m late, but GOD BLESS COCO for that walk!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:32 pm
  • Lar, don’t post that “chance of winning” garbage. A 2-run lead in the 6th on the road with this Sox bullpen means something other than a 74% chance of victory.

    stuck working July 23, 2008, 6:32 pm
  • Hey, Masterson warming up in the ‘pen! Nice!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:33 pm
  • Fuck Vidro.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:34 pm
  • I blame the win percentage for that HR. Gonna tell us what is it now, Lar?

    stuck working July 23, 2008, 6:35 pm
  • These squanders ALWAYS kill us. I hate this team. Buchholz should not be fighting for this game, giving up only three runs.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:37 pm
  • On mlb.tv the Mariners posted the starters line scores, and it showed Buchholz as giving up 3 runs, 1 earned. Am I missing something here?

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:38 pm
  • Back outside for you Atheose.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 6:38 pm
  • Wow, I went to err, use the bathroom and came back to see a tie.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:39 pm
  • Reed singles. Pull him, send Masterson out there.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:39 pm
  • *walks back into the hurricane*

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:40 pm
  • Well, no win for Buchholz. Totally not his fault. He should be walking off the mound with a semicomfortable lead and in line for a win. I hate this team so much right now. Hate hate hate hate hate this team.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:41 pm
  • sw: my bad if you don’t like it, just thought it’s amusing/cool (technology-wise). I would’ve done it for the Yanks game if I remembered about it – I came across it checking out the PPA stat for SF.
But probability are just that – sometimes it’s going to turn up heads..

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:41 pm
  • If it helps the reverse jinx – as of right now Seattle has a 63% chance of winning.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:42 pm
  • Well here’s the big first test for MAsterson. Can he get a DP with inherited runners?

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:42 pm
  • Yeah, I know, Lar. I’m not actually superstitious, but I had to blame someone, y’know?

    stuck working July 23, 2008, 6:42 pm
  • If anything, blame the guy who laughed at Vidro being the DH! ;P

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:43 pm
  • Masterson gets a K. Very nice!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:43 pm
  • Wow, Masterson comes on and Ks Johjima and LaHair on a total of seven pitches. Niiiiice.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:44 pm
  • Atheose, you can come back in but don’t get comfortable.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 6:45 pm
  • Interesting, Putz comes in the 7th inning, in a relatively high leverage situation..

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:46 pm
  • How the mighty have fallen: J.J. Putz on in the seventh? Wow.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:46 pm
  • Masterson gets 2 K’s on 7 pitches! Fantastic!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:46 pm
  • I’ll watch the game while standing, RBF.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:47 pm
  • Pedroia! Okay, I officially declare myself full of good luck now.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:48 pm
  • Elf!!! I love that little guy!

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 6:48 pm
  • OOOf. What the hell happened to Putz?

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 6:49 pm
  • Pedroia is ridiculously hot.
He seems to be hitting the ball well, too.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:49 pm
  • So you have to send Masterson back out for the 7th right? Then Delcarmen/Papelbon (assuming we get the lead), or Okajima/Papelbon?

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:50 pm
  • That is an.. interesting statement.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:50 pm
  • Tons of injuries and sucked when he’s not.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:51 pm
  • Atheose??

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 6:53 pm
  • Youk K’s and Pedroia is thrown out. I hate the hit-and-run.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:53 pm
  • Struck them out/throw them out DP. I wonder what’s the leash on Putz. I guess this was his inning.

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:53 pm
  • We will lose this game. We will have 13 baserunners in the first seven innings, score only three of them, score only one run despite loading the bases with none out, squander a decent outing from Clay Buchholz, and lose this effing game.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:54 pm
  • Atheose??
    *hides under desk*

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:55 pm
  • I heart Masterson’s slider.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:56 pm
  • You know, when that class was canceled, perhaps you should have considered going to the library to do some make-up work.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 6:57 pm
  • With Masterson’s arm, we could leave him out there for three or four innings if this game stays tied. Right now, knock on wood, Masterson looks good enough where that may be the case.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 6:59 pm
  • Ellsbury with a great catch that Manny wouldn’t have had. Masterson with a perfect 1.2 IP, and only 17 pitches used. Send him out for the 8th? Or do we trust Oki/Delcarmen?

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 6:59 pm
  • Well, I’m outta here! Can’t blame the rest of the game on me!

    Lar July 23, 2008, 6:59 pm
  • Masterson for the 8th, right? Anyone?
    Anyone?

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 6:59 pm
  • Adios, Lar.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 6:59 pm
  • You have to send him back out there. That’s why Theo did this. This shores up the big hole.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:00 pm
  • Yeah, Bill, especially in the tie game. He has to go out for the eighth, especially seeing as he’s only thrown one inning’s worth of pitches.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 7:01 pm
  • That catch is the only downside of seeing Big Papi back in the line-up.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:01 pm
  • I’m sorry RBF! Though I still think Lar’s jinxes deserve a larger portion of the blame.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:02 pm
  • It’s Manny injury allowing Ellsbury to be in left, so you’d probably still get to see that catch if Papi were in today’s lineup, RBF.
I wish Papi were in today’s lineup. I bet we might have more than three runs right now.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 7:03 pm
  • Is that a “Let’s go Yankees” cheer in the crowd? Wtf?

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:04 pm
  • Tito listening to this thread apparently. Masterson back out there, gets a groundout on his slider.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:08 pm
  • Yep. This Masterson in long relief thing is a bad idea alright.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:10 pm
  • Write it down: Masterson’s arrival to the bullpen will save the Red Sox’ season.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:12 pm
  • At least Tek can’t gidp again

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:14 pm
  • That sounded a tad Keystone Cop-esque

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:14 pm
  • crap. Gotta hope for extra innings

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:17 pm
  • Ellsbury 0-5 tonight. Okajima in.

    Anonymous July 23, 2008, 7:18 pm
  • Those were three bad at-bats there.
I’d love to know what was going through Tek’s head after the latest k.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:19 pm
  • Tomorrow’s an off day so at least a few extra innings won’t affect anything.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:20 pm
  • Okajima is going to blow the game. I can feel it.
Haha shirtless fan on the field. I’m surprised the cameraman showed him being carried away–I thought networks weren’t allowed to show ANY footage when fans go on the field.

    Anonymous July 23, 2008, 7:22 pm
  • Ellsbury makes another great play.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:25 pm
  • Anon was me. Stupid typepad.
I’ve never been so nervous to see a reliever with a 2.72 ERA in the game.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:26 pm
  • if only his bat weren’t stone cold…

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:27 pm
  • is anyone else breathing?

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:27 pm
  • 4-pitch walk. Tito pulls him, Delcarmen in.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:28 pm
  • Delcarmen? Ugh.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:30 pm
  • I’m not, RBF. How the fuck do you walk Miguel “two-twenty-five” Cairo? He’s hitting almost as bad as Tek!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:30 pm
  • whew

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:33 pm
  • Delcarmen gets out of it! On to extras, Pedroia-Drew-Youk. Offense please?

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:34 pm
  • Come on Lawn Gnome!!

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:36 pm
  • Crap.
How do we get that Morrow guy?

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:37 pm
  • He certainly has some nasty stuff.

  • Drew draws his 2nd walk of the day. Drive him in Lowell!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:39 pm
  • I’m on it.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:40 pm
  • Ichiro is off of Drew’s holiday card list I would guess.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2008, 7:41 pm
  • cripes

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:42 pm
  • JD will take care of that when he wakes up.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:42 pm
  • Drew doubled off first. Bah.
You know what the best thing about this extra-inning game is? It’s not 2:00am right now! All left-coast games should be day games.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:42 pm
  • Ichiro is certainly crossed off mine. Profanity-laden pre-ASG rant or not.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:43 pm
  • Eh, replay shows JD not so much at fault.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:43 pm
  • You know, today was kind of a cleansing.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:44 pm
  • Delcarmen still in? Me still nauseous.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:44 pm
  • Heh, game’s still going on…

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 7:44 pm
  • I want him.
    RBF, talk to Theo.

Not to toot my own horn, but I said we should get Morrow back in June ;-)

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:45 pm
  • Wicked curveball to K Lopez there.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:46 pm
  • MDC sez: Suck on that, YFSF doubters!

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 7:49 pm
  • Red Sox bullpen tonight: 4.2 IP, 5 K, 1 BB, 0 H.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:50 pm
  • Why can’t Papsy pitch more than one inning, again?

    A YF July 23, 2008, 7:55 pm
  • Lowrie draws a walk! Hey Varitek, please don’t go 0-5.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:57 pm
  • Holy shit Varitek listened!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 7:57 pm
  • That first pitch swing by Crisp looked a bit wanting.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2008, 7:58 pm
  • Coco just wanted to hear me scream “GOD BLESS COCO!”, ag.

    Anonymous July 23, 2008, 7:58 pm
  • Paps may end up pitching several at the rate this is going.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:59 pm
  • well then maybe he should have hit it harder, Ath.

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 7:59 pm
  • Papelbon in.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:00 pm
  • Wow what a lucky goddamn hit. Dejavu of a previous blown save this season.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:02 pm
  • Ouch.. that’s a tough replay to live down at the end of the season blooper reel.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2008, 8:02 pm
  • what happened?

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 8:03 pm
  • Vidro hit a silly dink that Paps over-ran because of a some english on it.. He tried to recover and toss to first but he couldn’t get the handle on it and fell over rather clumsily.
Made Beltre look slow here with that K.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2008, 8:05 pm
  • High-hopping ball towards the 1st baseline, Paps went after it but was running too fast–the ball had spin and bounced backwards away from him.
Betancourt singles to the gap, runner was going.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:07 pm
  • My heart just stopped on that foul ball. The announcer was screaming like it was easily fair.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:09 pm
  • Whew.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:10 pm
  • Lowell fields it easily and gets the double play. Thank goodness.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:10 pm
  • Ellsbury! About time!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:13 pm
  • I swear to god if Ellsbury doesn’t steal this base I’m going to be pissed.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:13 pm
  • If Ellsbury had stolen that base then Pedroia’s grounder would have moved him to 3rd. Sigh.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:14 pm
  • IBB to Drew. Youk getting no respect!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:15 pm
  • Whoa.. huge E in center.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2008, 8:17 pm
  • BLOOMQUIST DROPS THE BALL IN CENTER! Ellsbury doesn’t make it to home though because he had to go back to 2nd.
Why is that guy in CF instead of Ichiro?

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:18 pm
  • Give us something deep, Lowell. We went it DEEP, Lowell!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:19 pm
  • Again, when jacoby gets on base …

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:19 pm
  • Ellsbury is safe, Drew slides under the tag for the other run. 5-3 Sox! Lowell!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:20 pm
  • Mikey Lowell!!! Heck yeah!!!

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 8:20 pm
  • Ellsbury on base sets up our offense magnificently. They IBB’d Drew because of it, which essentially gave us that 2nd run.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:21 pm
  • Super slow mo on my HD shows Drew _just_ got underneath the tag. Good call by the ump.

    attackgerbil July 23, 2008, 8:21 pm
  • My completely ridiculous crush on Lowell just got worse.

    soxgirl July 23, 2008, 8:22 pm
  • Scary Papelbon, but had me cheering to end the 11th.
Lowell is the man; has me cheering in the middle of the 12th. I thought Ellsbury had screwed us when he didn’t see the play in center and tried to tag up.

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:22 pm
  • Bury ’em deep! 6-3 on Casey’s hole-finding grounder.

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:23 pm
  • My completely ridiculous crush on Lowell just got worse.
YOU Have a ridiculous crush on Lowell? I’m the one begging Lowell to give it to us DEEP!
Casey is the fucking man, 6-3 Sox.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:24 pm
  • I like to call the entire Seattle team ‘the win fairy’. They magically conjure wins for their opposing teams.
And the Yankees have the fortune to have three more games against them this season!

    AndrewYF July 23, 2008, 8:24 pm
  • Hansen in for the save.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:29 pm
  • Hansen going for the save… Nervous here.

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 8:29 pm
  • Hansen? eeeek!

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 8:30 pm
  • Hansen, huh? I won’t be surprised if he blows it. In my highly subjective memory, he does okay until there are baserunners and then he seems to melt down. So let’s make it 1-2-3 you often-disappointing weirdo!

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:30 pm
  • Nice play, Pedroia!

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:31 pm
  • Garden Gnome with a nice get.
    1 down.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:31 pm
  • Hansen, with the goatee thingy growing, will get the first two with aplomb, then struggle to get the third out.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:32 pm
  • Hansen misses a grounder, runner on first now.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:33 pm
  • Okay, that’s two and Ichiro down.

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:33 pm
  • Up the middle, 2 on, 2 out. Tying run to the plate.

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:34 pm
  • Why can’t Papsy go two innings again? Is it in his contract?

    A YF July 23, 2008, 8:36 pm
  • Single up the middle, Ibanez up. BRING IN LOPEZ!

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:36 pm
  • Loaded. Naturally. I mean, he’s just not a major league reliever.

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:37 pm
  • Hansen walks Ibanez, bases loaded. Fux0rz.

    Anonymous July 23, 2008, 8:38 pm
  • AWFUL!!! 3-0! Get him off the roster, man. I’d rather have Timlin be the garbage-eater.
    3-1.

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:39 pm
  • Gotta go. Farrell wants me to warm up.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:40 pm
  • crap. he’s going to walk in a run

    rootbeerfloat July 23, 2008, 8:40 pm
  • FUCKING THANK FUCKING GOD, JESUS H. FUCKFEST!!!

    Devine July 23, 2008, 8:40 pm
  • Whew.

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:40 pm
  • THANK GOODNESS game over. God that was intense.
Red Sox sweep. Bring on the Yankees! Masterson perfect in 2.2 innings, sign of great things to come down the stretch.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:41 pm
  • That’s a little profane, eh, Devine?

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:42 pm
  • Jesus H. Fuckfest?

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 8:43 pm
  • Jesus H Fuckfest is officially my new favorite profanity.

    Atheose July 23, 2008, 8:57 pm
  • I know we let profanity slide on the gamers, thanks to the high emotions involved much of the time, but it has been getting a little out of control. Do we really need the f word every time someone does anything noteworthy in the game? Or a string of expletives at the end of the game?

    Paul SF July 23, 2008, 9:04 pm
  • Come on, I haven’t taken the semi-open profanity thing liberally at all (maybe five or six times total? Less?). That game was terrifying and awful at the end there. It demanded intense profanity, though I’m sorry if I offended anyone.

    Devine July 23, 2008, 9:10 pm
  • Thicken up, Devine.
    I wasn’t offended so much as I was … well …
I’ve already done the Ward Cleaver thing once today. I’m not doing it again.

OK, the F-word is such a great word. Multi-purpose and all. Noun, verb, adjective, adverb, such a great word. But it’s also over used. …
Here we go. I got it. … As RFK would say, I think we can do better.
    (It was funny, though, Devine.)

    I'mBillMcNeal July 23, 2008, 9:25 pm
  • Ah, Paul, let it slide. I realize that profanity isn’t becoming all the time, but in gamers it’s something else, particularly 12 inning nail-biters. Yanks fans get the same leeway, for the record!

    SF July 23, 2008, 9:32 pm
  • Sorry, I used to keep things clean until we had the profanity-laden day after George Carlin died. Since then it’s tough to hold back. It’s a slippery slope of degeneration!

    Atheose July 24, 2008, 8:23 am
  • I have to say that Devine’s profanity-laced tirades are probably my favorite of all on this site. His JHF on this thread is only the latest and I can’t recall others now but I know there have been several over the months/years.
If I am wronged by anyone today, I will try to calm my nerves by just asking myself, “What would JHF do?”

    IronHorse (yf) July 24, 2008, 9:01 am
  • YFSF should make “WWJHFD?” (What Would Jesus H Fuckfest Do?) bracelets and T-shirts.

    Atheose July 24, 2008, 9:25 am
  • I am pre-ordering 50 of the bracelets right now, before demand shoots through the roof.

    IronHorse (yf) July 24, 2008, 9:31 am
