No Pulitzer For You!

Buried within a Wily Mo Pena-centric Defense Metric thread over at SoSH is a small, but possibly scandalous, nugget.  It seems that yesterday’s official scorer at Fenway was Tony Massarotti, the Boston Herald Red Sox beat writer, who then went on to write an article complaining about Pena’s defensive abilities and snarkily dismissing the fact that WMP wasn’t given errors on a couple of plays, never disclosing that he, the writer, was the official scorer.  Does anyone else find this massively problematic, journalistically speaking?

  • Wait a second. Mas scored yesterday’s game? Because unless my short-term memory is completely fried, Pena wasn’t in that game, except as a pinch-hitter.
