Not So Toothless: Tigers-Sox Gamer III

Mike Lowell sprained his thumb yesterday; fortunately the xray came back negative. Alex Cora felt a twinge in his throwing elbow taking ground ball practice; the team will be keeping an eye on that situation. Uncertain news for the Sox who saw the Tigers win their first game of the season last night despite a dicey outing by Bonderman.

Tim Wakefield faces Nate Robertson in the rubber match of the series tonight at Fenway. Lineups follow, comment away.

  • Mike Lowell has been placed on the 15 day DL and the Sox purchased Jed Lowrie’s contract from Pawtucket

  • Yikes! Lowell hurt makes me nervous for some reason.

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 6:59 pm
  • Lugo leading off makes me cry (like a little girl).

    Devine April 10, 2008, 7:01 pm
  • Crisp in the lineup makes me cry (like a little girl)

    TJ April 10, 2008, 7:09 pm
  • GREAT bunt by Lugo, almost even better play by Rodriguez but Lugo beats it out. Great way to start it off Lugo.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:17 pm
  • Lowell is on the DL? *throws self off building*

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:18 pm
  • Wow, Ortiz is REALLY looking bad.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:24 pm
  • I know it’s one game at a time but how are these guys going to face the yanks over the weekend?

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 7:26 pm
  • At least Posada and Jeter are injured too.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:28 pm
  • ugh… this is going to be a long evening

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 7:29 pm
  • Any word on if Jeter or Posada will be back for the weekend?

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 7:30 pm
  • Plus Casey has been on a tear in the games he has played in. Small sample size yes, but it’s still comforting.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:30 pm
  • Jeter probably will, Posada most likely no.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:31 pm
  • Coco strikes out. Been a while since I’ve said “God bless Coco!”

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:41 pm
  • Yawn.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 7:43 pm
  • I said it for you a couple days ago and confused the hell out of people checking hte log

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 7:45 pm
  • Two walks and two hit batters. This is getting ridiculous.

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 7:47 pm
  • Oh, Jesus. I just noticed Wake’s pitch count.
Maybe I should be watching the Bruins.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 7:48 pm
  • Whew.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 7:54 pm
  • Whew, Miggy strikes out. Two down, almost out of trouble Wakey.
And yeah, his pitch count makes me cringe. Looks like 9:00 to 10:00 will be the Julian Tavarez Comedy Hour tonight.
And Wake throws a wild pitch, and Cash makes a SPECTACULAR catch to stop it. Wow that was amazing.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 7:56 pm
  • What’d I tell ya about Casey? ;-)

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 8:01 pm
  • Why didn’t Loogie bunt there? Christ.
And DP pops out to waste the leadoff double.
Luis Tiant in the WRKO booth. I hope I have as much fun in retirement as he does.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 8:02 pm
  • So is Pedroia just going to start slow every year?

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 8:03 pm
  • Tim: retire.
Lester and Wakefield are going to ruin this team’s bullpen completely.

    SF April 10, 2008, 8:10 pm
  • I don’t have any disdain for Wakefield like I have for Lugo, Timmy has been a yeoman and a class act, a great cog in the team for a long time. But I am definitely tired of watching him pitch, I just can’t stand enduring his starts anymore.

    SF April 10, 2008, 8:15 pm
  • JD!

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 8:25 pm
  • God Bless Coco?

    rootbeerfloat April 10, 2008, 8:26 pm
  • Crisp and Cash with RBI hits…. AWESOME….

    TJ April 10, 2008, 8:33 pm
  • Wakefield done after 5… 2 R only 1 earned, it could havge been a lot worse.

    TJ April 10, 2008, 8:52 pm
  • Wakes gutted through five. Not bad considering his pitch count through three.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 8:55 pm
  • RS 3-4-5 batters 0-6 w/2 bb.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 8:57 pm
  • Assuming RS stay ahead, how do you work the pen from here? MDC gets 1.1, Oki gets 1.2 and Paps gets 1?

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 8:58 pm
  • Nice inning by MDC. 11 pitches, strands a leadoff single at first. We need that.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 8:59 pm
  • Man Drew it on fire…. i’d like to see him like this atleast haklf the total season.

    TJ April 10, 2008, 9:04 pm
  • depends… I think Delcarmen gets the next inning unless he throws a lot of pitches… then Oki… depending on the score if its a big lead (more then save) Oki may go two innings, and keep Paps available for 2 innings tomorrow if needed.

    TJ April 10, 2008, 9:07 pm
  • i should say more then one inning like 1 .1 or 1.2 if the Yanks are close to us.

    TJ April 10, 2008, 9:08 pm
  • Looks like Tito wants 6 outs from MDC.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:24 pm
  • I’m wrong. 5 outs.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:25 pm
  • ya woulda been 6 if not fot Ordonez’ HR

    TJ April 10, 2008, 9:28 pm
  • Gapper!!!
    2 runs!!!
    GREAT at-bat by MANNY!!!!

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:44 pm
  • That at bat? Epic.

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 9:45 pm
  • Manny with a 2 run double

    TJ April 10, 2008, 9:45 pm
  • Drew is so good this year he’s getting an IBB!

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 9:50 pm
  • Make them… um.. pay… Coco?

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 9:50 pm
  • That’s the dialed-in HOF Manny.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:50 pm
  • BULL CRAP. That was Ball 4!

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 9:52 pm
  • walks the bases full.
    C’mon. End it, Sean.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:52 pm
  • And that one, of which I was less sure, is called ball 4.

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 9:53 pm
Sorry I’m late with that RBF, I was watching The Office and missed Coco’s RBI.
Coco drew a walk! God bless Coco!

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 9:53 pm
  • 2-0. Take like freain crazy.

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 9:54 pm
  • They call him The Mayor.

    LocklandSF April 10, 2008, 9:54 pm
  • 2-run single for Casey!

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:54 pm
  • Or even BETTER! Sean Casey is inhabite dby the spirit of 07 Lowell!

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 9:55 pm
  • I’m loving the addition of Casey on this team. The man’s a force to be reckoned with.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 9:55 pm
  • Lock, Fred Hoiberg was the Mayor.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:55 pm
  • damn u Cash….. DAMN THAT MAN!

    TJ April 10, 2008, 9:57 pm
  • OK, 8-3.
Off to Menard’s and then to buy some beer.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 9:57 pm
  • I have tuned in just in time for both the run-scoring innings and most of the top halves of those innings where the Tigers scored. It has been great swerving from “Oh, darn.” to “This rocks!”
Eff you for walking the leadoff batter, Tavarez, but you’re still a great character.
Wallball single, nice grab off the wall and throw Crisp. Jesus, Tavarez.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:03 pm
  • Loaded, nobody out. COME ON.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:07 pm
  • Francona: Hey Knives!
Tavarez: *chugging fetal pig blood from a milk carton* Yes, coach?
Francoa: Our boys came through in a cluthc situation, after all this time, putting us up by five runs.
    Tavarez: Yea, its pretty awesome.
Francona: Awesome? Hell no. We can;t have them thinking they can do that at will or anything… so I want you to go out there, and SUCK. I want you to SUCK so hard that you suck the life out of that crowd.
Tavarez: Can do! Can I kill a hobo afterwards?
    Francona: Unnnhhhh…. sure….I guess…

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:08 pm
  • woukd someone go kidnap Tavarez and drop him off in siberia or something

    TJ April 10, 2008, 10:09 pm
  • Single. 8-4. Still loaded, nobody out, and tying run to the plate. Sheesh. The swerving continues.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:09 pm
  • Wow, this is amazingly awful. One of the worst pitching performances I can remember seeing. 8-5, loaded, nobody out. Tying run on.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:10 pm
  • Yeah Lugo!

    LocklandSF April 10, 2008, 10:11 pm
  • DP. Oh, the breath is back. Uhh, one more? Now the tying run is at the plate again, and it’s Ordonez.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:12 pm
  • The crowd ROARS as Francona comes to the mound, and as Papelbon comes in.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:13 pm
  • Oh thank god Tavarez gets a DP. Only up 8-6 now, Francona wisely pulls Papelbon in for a 4-out save. So much for saving him for the Yankees this weekend.

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 10:14 pm
  • And that was a very good stretch and turn by Lugo.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:14 pm
  • Woo! On 2 pitches, popped to center.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:16 pm
  • Is it me or should Lugo try to bunt for a hit EVERY time?

    Atheose April 10, 2008, 10:20 pm
  • Holy shit! More Runs!

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:30 pm
  • No IBB this time for Drew and he gets the Sac fly with the help of The Scarlet Speedster

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:31 pm
  • YOOOOOOOOOK! 2 more runs on the bases loaded ground-rule double. And 2 runners in scoring position with 1 out. 10-6, and my watching-the-game scoring streak continues.
I hope it dies in the 9th.
Drew gets an RBI on a sac fly to center. He had 3 singles this game. Woo!

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:32 pm
  • 5-run lead again. SO how does Tito blow it this time? Corey? Lopez? I’m goign with Lopez.

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:33 pm
  • CRISP! Who knew?!

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:35 pm
  • Coco drops one into left-center and in comes Yooooook. 12-6. No one warming, I think it’s a bit lame that they’re essentially bringing Pap back in to get his meaningless stat, but I also will enjoy the security of watching him pitch after this series of heart attacks.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:36 pm
  • Devine, I think you need to Fan-up and turn off your TV for the bottom

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:36 pm
  • I think they are bringing him back because they have no one left, Devine. Corey and Aardsma and (I think) Lopez all threw last night

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:37 pm
  • Man, the lead is bigger now than it was at the end of last inning. That’s nuts.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:39 pm
  • I’d consider it if it were anyone but Papelbon (or Okajima), Dio. But Papelbon laughs at my streak.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:40 pm
  • Leyland looks vaguely concerned.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:41 pm
  • Welcome to the AL, Cabrera.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:42 pm
  • One.

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:43 pm
  • Oh no. Devine. Turn off your TV!

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:45 pm
  • Pudge and Leyland talk, bringing life and intelligence back into Leyland’s eyes. Good, I was starting to feel bad every time the camera looked at the Tigers manager. Pudge being a good teammate there, I think.
    Guillen doubles.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:45 pm
  • Renteria goes K on a lovely pitch on the outside corner belt-high by Papelbon.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:47 pm
  • K!

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:47 pm
  • That was a wicked pitch. Nasty.

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:48 pm
  • Pudge hits, but no scoring yet (runners at the corners). C’mon, Pap, kill my streak.

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:48 pm
  • Single doesnt score the run, but Im terrified now. Come on Paps. One more…

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • Bam. Oof, the poor Tigers. GO SOX! Let’s go get Cleveland!

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • THREE! Sox win!

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:50 pm
  • Oh, and the Red Sox offense…
    IT’S ALIVE!!!

    Devine April 10, 2008, 10:50 pm
  • If I told you a month ago that the Sox would take 2 of 3 from the Tigers, we’d be ecstatic. As such, Im goign to disregard the Tigers slow start and BE ecstatic.

    Dionysus April 10, 2008, 10:51 pm
  • I’ll keep counting.
8 LOBs brings the season total to 77, still an average of just under 7 per game.
12 runs is nice, but 8 LOBs. ACK!
Every starter with a hit except Papi. Bottom 5 of the order had 10 of 12 RBIs. Manny had the other 2.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 11:19 pm
  • Dion, the Tigers hit well enough to win tonight, so I will disregard the record.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 10, 2008, 11:20 pm
  • Oh, yeah, the Yankees are in town. Cleveland, heh, that’s for later.

    Devine April 11, 2008, 10:22 am
  • I can’t believe there’s no thread for this NY Post story:
