Now that We’re Here…: Astros-Sox Gamer IV

Since the baseball gods (along with the bats, pitching, and defense of the Boston Red Sox…not to mention the pitching of the Houston Astros) have provided 3 wins…heck, why not one more?

The Sox face their least certain matchup today as eminently competent Bud Norris faces eminently injured John Lackey, making his first ML start since hurting himself back in early April against the BJ’s. Comment away!

  • Two walks after two outs for Lackey in the first inning.

  • Limits the damage to just one run, but lots of pitches already.

  • Papi ties it.

  • Nice catch by Nava. Lackey looking ok so far. Not going long though, I’m sure.

  • Middlebrook singles. Not slumping anymore.

  • Another great inning from Lackey. 65 pitches after 5.

Blue Jays leading the Yankees 2-1. I’m sure they’ll find a way to cough up the lead.

  • Nava reaches on a fielding error, then is awarded second when the throw goes into the stands, comes home on a Pedroia double.

The Astros are not a good baseball team.

  • Lackey gets out of a bases loaded, one out jam. Sox still up 5-1.

As I predicted the Yankees have taken the lead. Blue Jays better continue to suck up to and including Thursday.

  • Lackey done after 6. Great job.

  • Great job, indeed. Yep on Jays/Yankees as well, pbe, Yankees complete their own 4-game sweep.

And that throw by the Houston SS on Nava was so bad, I knew it was way off when it was barely out of his hand.

  • Papi in danger of his BA falling below .500 comes through with an RBI double. 6-1 Sox.

  • Yankees complete sweep of the Jays. And now they’ll get to feast on the Astros.

  • Celtics beat Knicks in OT, get to play at least one more.

  • After the initial road trip, with all the home games coming up, I wrote that 18-8 at the end of April would be nice but unlikely. And now, unless the bullpen does something terrible, we’re looking at 18-7 with one to play in the month. Would be even nicer with all the other teams around .500 instead of the Yankees and Orioles keeping the pace.

  • Fantastic catch by Nava to end the game. Bailey non-saves the game with three long outs and a ground-rule double.

    Great team, excellent month!

    Go Bruins!

  • The 2007 Sox won a division title (not entirely, but in large part) by winning like this in April AND May. You have to be happy, but still measure in your response here. It’s nice to see Lackey pitching effectively at 81 pitches in 6, but we’ll see how it goes against not-Houston.
