On Mini-Golf and Guys Named Boof: SoxTwins Gamer I

The Red Sox are known as a team that doesn’t like playing in the Metrodome. There’s the thought that they don’t do particularly well there (despite winning the series there last season); then there’s the strange catwalk system that cost David Ortiz a home run there in 2006. You remember that one. Ortiz hit a bomb that clanged off a speaker and turned into a single.

Terry Francona was a bit peeved after the game.

"It’s like playing putt-putt golf, you’ve got to go around the windmill," Francona said. "This is Major League baseball. That’s embarrassing."

You know what else is embarrassing? Being named Boof.

You know what’s even more embarrassing? Choosing the name "Boof." Yes, Bonser actually changed his name from John Paul Bonser to Boof Bonser. (The more you say "Boof Bonser," the more it sounds like you’re trying out some barely understood Australian colloquialism).

Bonser has had a career that is practically the definition of mediocre, but that hasn’t stopped the Red Sox from losing to him both times they’ve faced him. Perhaps tonight, they’ll give Jon Lester a hand and boof Bonser all over the park … whatever that means.

Comment away!

  • lugo and paplebon should go to oki’s locker right this second and apologize for being shitty. then they should buy me a drink or two for having to watch that shit.

  • That sucked a little worse than my day, and took a little joy I could have had and wiped it out. I have no long-term fear RE: Papelbon; I’m just annoyed it had to be today.

  • What a shitty box score to come home to. Sigh, two nights in a row? This is my worried face *points to face*
Looking at the Gameday Papelbon got ahead of pretty much every hitter, but then couldn’t put them away.
Oki pitched two perfect innings? At least that’s nice.

  • Oh, both teams lost in teasing, heartbreaking fashion. Everyone here had a great night!

  • Papelbon had been striking out batters at a rate of about 16 per nine. He stopped striking ANYbody out a couple games before these and talked about it like that was a good thing.
Maybe he needs to realize pitching to contact = not as good as striking people out.
or maybe it’s just luck catching up to him. Still. This should be seven straight wins now.

  • Or eight, I guess. Damn. It’s getting less and less OK to say, “Well, we shouldn’t have been in this one in the first place.” Also getting harder and harder to defend Lugo…
