On Deck, Nigel Tufnel: Sox-Mets Gamer II

Christopher_guest_this_is_spinal_tap_002

While pigs flew in the Bronx today, a certain Dominican hurler warmed for tonight’s re-appearance at Fenway Park.  We suppose there’s not much to say here regarding this evening’s matchup that we didn’t state in yesterday’s "20 Years" post, other than that we hope Pedro Martinez (again) grabs a mammoth standing ovation and then proceeds to have his shortest outing of the year.  Keep the streak going, Sox.

This one goes to eleven.

  • Now way. Pedro brushes back the Sox. Beckett tears his hymen.

  • [discussing Curt’s sock collection]
Curt: Look… still has the old tag on, never even worn it.
Josh: [points his finger] You’ve never worn…?
    Curt: Don’t touch it!
Josh: We’ll I wasn’t going to touch it, I was just pointing at it.
Curt: Well… don’t point! It can’t be worn.
Josh: Don’t point, okay. Can I look at it?
Curt: No. no. That’s it, you’ve seen enough of that one.

  • Boston Dirt Dogs has hit a new low this week with all their anti-Pedro whining. It’s pathetic. I love how one of their reasons to jeer Pedro is “He’d have gone to the Yankees if they’d made him an offer.” This comes, what, a month after they led a Johnny Damon lovefest? Blatant hypocrisy like that makes you wonder about their motivations.
Anyways, they suck. YFSF rocks. LEt’s play ball.

  • That reminds me why I stopped reading Dirt Dogs.

    Tom sf June 28, 2006, 6:12 pm
  • What’s a Dirt Dog?
(Never was I more thankful that I stopped reading that rag of a site than when I heard about his “Anti-Pedro-fest” campaign. The guy is a hack and a slag. A hlag.)
I’ve got the feeling that Pedro could be ready to pull something special out tonight. It’s going to be fantastic to watch. That said, I can’t wait to watch King David drop one into the bleachers to win it.
This one goes to eleven, indeed!

  • Let’s go Petey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Nick-YF June 28, 2006, 6:32 pm
  • those “vote for pedro” signs make no sense in this situation. ESPN had it asd their headline this afternoon, too.

    airk June 28, 2006, 7:16 pm
  • what kind of reception did he get when he came to the mound?

    Nick-YF June 28, 2006, 7:17 pm
  • Mostly applause, and a smattering of boos. Appropriate and substantive enough, IMO.

    ATLSF June 28, 2006, 7:19 pm
  • yeah, almost entirely appreciative applause. not as loud or long as last night.
    Youk an Loretta back-to-back singles….

    airk June 28, 2006, 7:21 pm
  • Pedro’s head is definitely not in the game — he just botched what was a sure-fire double play on a comebacker to the mound. Should have gone to 2nd immediately, but instead looks to third, does nothing, then throws to first.

    airk June 28, 2006, 7:24 pm
  • 1-0 good guys. A nixonian sac fly.

    airk June 28, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • TEK

    airk June 28, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • Varitek probably knows what Pedro’s bringing before he even throws it. Made him pay for his earlier gaffe.

    ATLSF June 28, 2006, 7:29 pm
  • I hate the NL East.

    Nick-YF June 28, 2006, 7:29 pm
  • Wow. Milledge looks like a kid lost in a grocery store out there.

    ATLSF June 28, 2006, 7:31 pm
  • I bet you the Mets bring their A-game to the stadium this weekend. This series? Not so good.

    Nick-YF June 28, 2006, 7:32 pm
  • I’m willing to bet if we had eventually done that Ramirez for Milledge trade… Milledge would have been shot by now

    NeffSox June 28, 2006, 7:32 pm
  • The thing is that it was the Mets who balked at the deal.

    Nick-YF June 28, 2006, 7:33 pm
  • Beckett looks sharp.

    airk June 28, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • Gonzo up to .996 fielding %. Unreal.

    airk June 28, 2006, 7:38 pm
  • Nick sounding paranoid…

    Tom sf June 28, 2006, 7:39 pm
  • what is it that Woody Allen said about paranoia? It’s a heightened awareness?

    Nick-YF June 28, 2006, 7:43 pm
  • Well it didn’t take long for a beaning out of Pedro…did not look on purpose though

    Rob June 28, 2006, 7:45 pm
  • Man, Pedro is really getting shelled. He’s not going to last long.

    airk June 28, 2006, 8:06 pm
  • He’s REALLY going to get an applause if this continues. Sox are just rolling.

    ATLSF June 28, 2006, 8:10 pm
  • GONZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    airk June 28, 2006, 8:10 pm
  • They should pull Pedro…don’t have this go on any longer

    Rob June 28, 2006, 8:10 pm
  • I’m starting to feel bad for Pedro.

    Tom sf June 28, 2006, 8:12 pm
  • Wow!!! I go to a work function, tune in late, and miss the fireworks. Am I right about the whole “shortest outing of the year” thing?

    SF June 28, 2006, 8:13 pm
  • Frankly, I’m just waiting for the “Who’s your daddy” chant

    airk June 28, 2006, 8:14 pm
  • Oliver is warming up for the Mets..

    Rob June 28, 2006, 8:14 pm
  • Lastings would be catching an a** whooping

    Rob June 28, 2006, 8:15 pm
  • I finally get to root for Pedro at Fenway and this is what happens. I guess you could say the Sox are hot right now.

    Nick-YF June 28, 2006, 8:16 pm
  • Delgado again

    Rob June 28, 2006, 8:19 pm
  • Delgad’oh!

    airk June 28, 2006, 8:20 pm
  • Pedro out: 3IP 8R 6ER 7H 2BB 1HBP 1K

  • What say we put all the “Mets are the best team in baseball” talk on hold for a while?

    MJL in L.A. June 28, 2006, 8:28 pm
  • Eh…they’ll bounce back this weekend (hopefully).

    ATLSF June 28, 2006, 8:38 pm
  • Well, tonight has certainly been fun so far. It was so weird rooting against Pedro, though. On that play in the first with the ball that Papi hit, I almost started to moan and groan, and then I realized that Petey’s screw up was a GOOD thing for the Sox. It just felt so wrong to be rooting against him, though.

    Laura June 28, 2006, 8:50 pm
  • 87 runs scored in last 11 games….wow.

    Rob June 28, 2006, 9:03 pm
  • Is Ortiz driving in the tenth run to give the Sox a 9 run lead in the 6th inning clutch? I vote yes.

    SF June 28, 2006, 9:06 pm
  • Beckett needs to go the full 9

    Rob June 28, 2006, 9:26 pm
  • I walk away for a few minutes and Beckett is getting pulled. Looks like he ran out of steam.

    Rob June 28, 2006, 9:35 pm
  • Beckett doffs the cap as the fans give him a big standing O.

    airk June 28, 2006, 9:35 pm
  • And theres Curt mentoring the young lad in the dugout

    Rob June 28, 2006, 9:37 pm
  • Good move IMO to bring in Lopez here. Frustrated, tired Beckett vs. Delgado? Um, no thanks.

    airk June 28, 2006, 9:38 pm
  • Schilling needs to bring his A game tommorrow

    Rob June 28, 2006, 9:39 pm
  • Lopez with a nice K

    Rob June 28, 2006, 9:39 pm
  • AGon has not had a BB since May 30. His BA for June is .355, his OBP is also .355.

    Tom sf June 28, 2006, 9:49 pm
  • As a somebody who has seen their fair share of Tom Glavine in a Braves uniform, something tells me that the Sox (should they choose to arrive in present-day form) are going to eat him up tomorrow.

    ATLSF June 28, 2006, 9:50 pm
  • I dunno, ATL. I am not as confident as you, though the Sox are incredibly hot. Should be another interesting matchup tomorrow.

    SF June 28, 2006, 9:59 pm
  • Glavine is very hittable (his former club beats him up) — ususally works away, not a ton of movement or velocity, and needs a generous zone to be effective. Good stuff, but very hittable if you’re patient enough.
