Oops: Sox-Jays Gamer X

That’s what we’re saying, having not gotten up a game thread until right now. It’s also what Julian Tavarez must be saying after having squandered Manny Ramirez’s two-run homer by giving up four runs (and counting) in the third.

Comment here.

  • The third out…on a double by Zaun to left, as Manny-Lugo-Varitek gets Hill at the plate.
Yuck, what an ugly inning. Drew-Pedroia-Ortiz due in the bottom of the inning.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:08 pm
  • Inning over, no thanks to Tavarez, who gives up a double. Hill nailed at home by the Manny-Lugo throw.

    Paul SF July 13, 2007, 8:08 pm
  • Tvarez drives me nuts. It is like watching the Dennis Rodman of baseball with all of his antics. Perhaps he should worry about making good pitches instead of putting on a “show” by rolling balls around the infield.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:08 pm
  • Drew with a leadoff double.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:09 pm
  • Drew BARELY gets to 2nd in time and has a leadoff double on a fairly hard groundball to left. Good to see him going the other way more (a lot more) recently.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:09 pm
  • Pedroia moves Drew to third. Would have liked to have seen him take a few more pitches.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:10 pm
  • Pedroia grounds to 2nd and moves Drew to 3rd. Should see both Ortiz and Manny now.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:10 pm
  • Ick…a soft liner to 2nd base and Drew can go nowhere.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:12 pm
  • Papi lines out. Come on Manny, do it again.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:12 pm
  • Manny singles to left. Drew scores. All your RBI are belong to Manny.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:14 pm
  • Youk grounder to 3rd, Glaus miscue. 1st and 2nd, 2 out for Lowell.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:17 pm
  • Lowell triples to center over Wells’s head! 5-4 Sox!

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:19 pm
  • Hey, I like this new clutch-hitting Red Sox team.

    Paul SF July 13, 2007, 8:20 pm
  • Has the makings of a offensive fireshow tonight.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:21 pm
  • Hmmm…that was close, that final pitch to Varitek. One can’t be too unhappy, though, results-wise.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:25 pm
  • WTF? Drew out of the game. Every time this crap happens, I think of season-ending injuries for Drew.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:26 pm
  • What happened to Drew?

    Paul SF July 13, 2007, 8:27 pm
  • Nothing on Boston.com yet

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:29 pm
  • Come on Tavarez, quit the crap and get the inning over with.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:33 pm
  • Oy. No inning has been easy. If Tavarez gets out of this inning, he’ll be lucky. If he makes it through 5, he’ll be VERY lucky.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:33 pm
  • Snyder up in the pen.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:34 pm
  • Phew.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:36 pm
  • Tavarez at 96 pitches. That should be all for him. Tito needs to bring Snyder in next inning so we can hold the lead. Playing with fire to much everytime that we send Tavarez back out there.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:37 pm
  • I agree, Rob, but I kind of think you can count on Tito to disagree and try for one more. I hope I’m wrong.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:38 pm
  • tavarez hasn’t been doing his normal pointing to direct the play routine. maybe cause every ball has been smoked.
tighness in jd’s harmstring from running the bases. donnelly scratched due to arm soreness. yeah.

    sf rod July 13, 2007, 8:43 pm
  • That was a crap AB inning. Lugo at least made Marcum work for it with a 7 pitch AB.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:45 pm
  • And he SMOKED the ball. Glaus made a nice play to grab it.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:46 pm
  • Okaaaaaayyyy…Tito, how ’bout now? Okay, that’s good. A batter late, but better now than letting him face another.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:48 pm
  • Yep Devine, Tito did it. Spin the wheel again this inning.
    leadoff single

    Rob July 13, 2007, 8:49 pm
  • The Blue Jays have 9 hits in 4.0+ innings.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:50 pm
  • Always scary when three guys come together and just keep coming and coming and coming together. Manny apparently declared his right eventually, but it looked like Lugo’s to me.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:53 pm
  • Whoa, that sounds dirty on second read.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:55 pm
  • Oh yeah! Lined into double play!

    Devine July 13, 2007, 8:57 pm
  • kazmir (116 pitches) just got out of a jam in the sixth. 4-1 d-rays.

  • Let’s go, Snyder!

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:09 pm
  • 1 down.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:10 pm
  • Woohoo! Messed up bunt attempt and Varitek catches it. 2 down.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:11 pm
  • Timlin up in the pen.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:13 pm
  • Another happy night in Sox land. Roger gets knocked out in the 6th, Yanks down 4-1. Uggh.

    John - YF (Trisk) July 13, 2007, 9:13 pm
  • I hate this discussion of the Red Sox Nation election sh*t. There’s a game on. A guy just walked to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. It’s not a laugher; talk about the game.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:14 pm
  • Snyder can’t hold it. Suck.

    Paul SF July 13, 2007, 9:19 pm
  • See?

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:19 pm
  • Snyder gives up the RBI double…damn.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:20 pm
  • Gar.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:21 pm
  • Devine, relax a moment. It was a down moment. Want to see anger, check out Lohud tonight. They are eating their young over there.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:21 pm
  • Can we officially end the “Julian Tavarez in the rotation” phase of this year’s Red Sox?
    Please!?!?

    SF July 13, 2007, 9:21 pm
  • Time to yank Snyder. For some odd reason tonight we are just having a hard time after getting two outs.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:22 pm
  • “Can we officially end the “Julian Tavarez in the rotation” phase of this year’s Red Sox?”
I’ve been begging for this for about two months. Even when he was winning.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:23 pm
  • Timlin in for Snyder.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:24 pm
  • Finally out of the inning. Time to disply the clutch hitting we had earlier in the game.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:26 pm
  • he main problem is that Delcarmen may be available, but I doubt Okajima (long inning) or Papelbon (ASG and pitched yesterday) are. So if we regain the lead, we’re going to be asking Timlin, Pineiro and Lopez to hold it. Ick.

    Paul SF July 13, 2007, 9:29 pm
  • Oh, I’m not upset. I just thought the meandering on the “presidency of Red Sox Nation” was ridiculous.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:30 pm
  • Downs and Wolfe up for Toronto in the pen.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:31 pm
  • Lowell gets on. Bottom of the lineup has been awful tnight. Hope they can change that here.

    Paul SF July 13, 2007, 9:32 pm
  • Devine, no prob, didn’t think you were super pissed.
But you have to admit, the bobblebelly….

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:32 pm
  • What the hell was Tek swinging at?

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:34 pm
  • This game is a perfect example of why the Sox are going to have potential trouble in the second half: the starters are not deep enough to go deep, hence the bullpen gets tired, and guys aren’t available (or are less effective) on consecutive evenings. Games like last night and tonight will have a snowball effect: we’ll see more late-inning difficulty due to starters not doing their jobs. This has to be fixed, or we’ve got a recipe for a disaster of a bullpen come August/September.

    SF July 13, 2007, 9:37 pm
  • Crisp safe on a FC, Lowell out at 2nd.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:37 pm
  • I agree SF. The problem starters so far (last few weeks caveat) have been Gabbard and Tavarez. They have seemed to cause the pen to work more. I know the other three have had there days, but shouldn’t we expect that out of the 4th and 5th guys in the rotation?

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:39 pm
  • Lugo pops out to end the inning.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:39 pm
  • Cool, Rob. Ugly stuff that inning.

    Devine July 13, 2007, 9:40 pm
  • Streaky offense again. We definately need to get a better bat on the bench for those replacements/subs. Hinske has been productive in a few games, just worries me though.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:42 pm
  • “Injury delay.” Now what?

    Paul SF July 13, 2007, 9:43 pm

  • Decent job by Timlin that inning.
Time for the Bats to do something.

  • Pinch hitting WMP got Hinske? Is Tito huffing on a sewer line?

    Rob July 13, 2007, 9:54 pm

    Rob July 13, 2007, 10:45 pm

  • Pedroia walks. Papi to the plate. Papi has been so overdue for one of these dramatic walk-off homers it is not even funny.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 10:55 pm
  • Papi flies out to center, all up to Manny now.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 10:56 pm
  • Papi takes it for a ride but to the too-deep part of the park. Manny’s turn for the drama.

    attackgerbil July 13, 2007, 10:57 pm
  • Manny leads the majors with 13 GWRBI? I didn’t know that. I thought stat was not tracked anymore.

    attackgerbil July 13, 2007, 10:58 pm
  • Walk Manny?

    Rob July 13, 2007, 10:58 pm
  • Great. The Yanks are still 10 out and now are tied with Toronto again. Tastes like chicken.

    attackgerbil July 13, 2007, 11:00 pm
  • Well no GWRBI for him tonight. Seems like the offense tanked tonight when Drew was replaced by Hinske. Drew may not be hitting all that well, but he does draw walks and extend innings.
Even though Manny did not deliver in that final AB, he does have 1 HR and 6 RBIs in the first two games after the break. I think he is going to have to get super hot, with Papi’s knee being what it is. Would be nice if Wiffy was a little more solid and could use him off the bench more, but he is a black hole at the plate.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 11:01 pm
  • It is pathetic AG. Seems like the Yanks and the Sox cannot take advantge this year of the others misforutne. We either both win or both lose. Frustrating for us, equally, if not more frustrating for Yank fans with the easy schedule out of the break.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 11:03 pm
  • Positive news on Schilling’s throwing session today.

    Rob July 13, 2007, 11:05 pm
  • Woo-hoo. .500 ball again. Yes. I’m thinking that we should get some slop baller from Pawtucket to start for Tavarez because he looks like he needs some time off and, well, we have a full 10 game lead to piss away so, let’s try to fill our holes with square pegs. This way, the front office has plausible deniability later. “We didn’t plan for____.” “We thought Joe Little League could throw 8 innings of shut-out ball for us for weeks. Hell, we thought Joe was going to start Game 1 of the WS for us.”

    DW-sf July 13, 2007, 11:06 pm
  • > We either both win or both lose
Which is just fine in the short term for the Sox, considering their phenomenal start where they pissed excellence (god I love that phrase; thanks Will Ferrell or whomever wrote it) while the Yankees played like they were pissed, in the British sense of the word. The Jays are in the same boat, and the Orioles and SatanFish aren’t an issue for most teams, now or for the foreseeable future except for the New York Effing Yankees inability to manhandle the the worst team in the majors.
As of late, the Yanks have risen to the level of “fair-to-middlin” team, and the Sox have fallen to that level, but the big difference is that the Sox have a real possibility that their rotation will rebound to their former stride and the offense, currently decent, has potential for improvement whereas the Yankees rotation seems to have no capability of finding a stride, let alone maintain one, regardless of what the bats do.

    attackgerbil July 13, 2007, 11:28 pm
  • yanks + sox = ugh
    post-season: not gonna be fun
