Ortiz To Play Saturday

This just in from the AP:

“My health is fine. The doctors have told me to rest today and practice Friday so I can be ready to return to the playing field on Saturday,” he told radio station Z-101 of his native Dominican Republic.

Glad to have you back on the field, Papi. It’s a joy to watch you swing the bat. Except against New York.

  • In other Sox news, David Wells appears to be on his way to San Diego.

Wells was seen leaving Fenway Park Thursday afternoon. He was scheduled to start tonight’s game against Toronto. But manager Terry Francona’s lineup card shows Julian Tavarez as the starter.

    Emphasis mine. FEAR.
Sorry, SoxFans. I like the big guy.
I’ll top post this story if more details break soon.

  • Francona just said (on EEI) that Wells has definitely been traded to SD, and that Dinardo has been activated to split the duty with Tavarez tonight – I believe Dinardo was supposed to start tonight at McCoy.

  • Last I heard the Sox were angling for a catcher who is hitting .233 … in AAA.
In other words, don’t expect much more than a bag of baseballs in return.
Meanwhile, I may tune into tonight’s game to see if The Orc can set a record for most runs allowed in 5 innings.
