OutFOXed: Yanks – Angels Gamer II

A noble comeback by New York ended up not being enough to hold off the resourceful Angels last night. Solid defensive play and clutch hitting from rookie catcher Mike Napoli dashed New York’s hopes of a win. No ground was lost in the division race, but questions were raised about the health of a certain third baseman and the effectiveness of a recently reactivated reliever.

West coast baseball fans get to see Corey Lidle face Ervin Santana as New York slogs towards the end of their long road trip. Santana was stellar in his start against New York way back in April. I’m fifty miles outside of town working today, but hopefully I will make it back in time to see the last four or five innings.

Here’s your place to comment on today’s game.

  • Wow – upping the pressure on ARod in the two-hole? Why? Didn’t this idea flop last year in the playoffs against the same team?

    brad August 26, 2006, 4:23 pm
  • Abreu as the cleanup guy instead of Giambi? Odd lineup indeed…

    Paul SF August 26, 2006, 4:33 pm
  • How come Yankee threads are so anemic?

    Cape Codder August 26, 2006, 6:05 pm
  • Kendrick homers. 6-5 Angels, still in the bottom of the sixth, no outs.
Bruney hits Kennedy, but it was unintentional.
    Villone up in the pen.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:25 pm
  • Posada throws out Kennedy attempting to steal on the strike-em-out, throw-em-out.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:26 pm
  • Cape Codder: Two guesses.
    1) West coast game on Fox
    2) Beautiful Saturday afternoon
I missed the first four due to work, and got back just in time to see the Bruney/Cabrera blowup.
Bruney ks Figgins to end the inning.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:27 pm
  • Final line on Santana: 6.1 IP, 7h, 5r, 4er, 3bb, 5 k
    J. C. Romero in to face Abreu.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:35 pm
  • Scioscia wants Shields to face Giambi.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:36 pm
  • Giambi is 1-4 against Shields with a home run.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:38 pm
  • Dueling managers as Wilson was to hit for Giambi, and then Guiel hit for Wilson. Guiel walks, then Robi Ks to end the inning.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:45 pm
  • Dotel takes the mound for New York.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:46 pm
  • Vlad is a monster.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:52 pm
  • I admire Johnny’s effort, but watching him crash off the wall like that on a ball he can’t make a play on gives me the willies.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:53 pm
  • Anderson hits a comebacker. Myers can’t make the play at home. Gosh, we need a day off.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:57 pm
  • Rivera in at the plate. I wonder if he and Jorge are still jawing.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 6:58 pm
  • Myers fans Cabrera looking on a pitch way low and in.
Kendrick up, needing a triple for the cycle.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:01 pm
  • He singles on the first pitch. First and third, two outs to Kennedy.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:01 pm
  • Kennedy singles sharply to left to score another run. First and second, Halos lead 9-5.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:04 pm
  • Angels execute the double steal on ball three from Myers. Urgh.
ARod makes a very nice play on a ball hit right up the line, catching across his body and making a strong throw to end the inning.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:06 pm
  • Johnny makes it 9-7 with a 2-out dinger.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:16 pm
  • Rodriguez works the count full against Rodriguez. Rodriguez strikes out. Rodriguez. Rodriguez. Rodriguez? Rodriguez! Rodriguez!
    Rodriguez.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:22 pm
  • Ron Villone on for New York as we head to the bottom of the eighth.

    Anonymous August 26, 2006, 7:25 pm
  • Fox graphic says 0-10 with 7ks. Seemed like more.
Figgins walks. Izturis sacs him to second.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • Villone throws the mother of all WPs to advance Figgins to third.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:30 pm
  • Cabrera hits a hard liner to left over Cabrera’s head to score a run. Cabrera. Cabrera. Cabrera. Cabrera? Cabrera! Cabrera!
    Cabrera.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:32 pm
  • Okay, that’s enough of that, Malkovich.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:33 pm
  • Anderson hits a single to right for another run. Abreu is coming home with the throw. Guiel cuts it off but drops the transfer.
This is turning into a travesty. 11-7 Halos.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:35 pm
  • Rivera rifles a double to the corner. it was off Villone, not Rivera so my whole idiom has been crushed.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • First base is open, so Villone walks Kendrick with one out to put the double play back in effect. Kennedy up.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:37 pm
  • Loading the bases works perfectly as we get to see the rare 1-2-3 DP on the comebacker to end the inning.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:38 pm
  • The Captain singles to left to lead off the Yankee 9th.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:44 pm
  • Abreu walks on four pitches.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:44 pm
  • Aaron Guiel is up. This would be a great time for him to produce. The shadows falling across the field are brutal right now, and he takes strike one.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:45 pm
  • A pitch inside. Then a looping swing on a breaking pitch makes it 1-2. The next pitch is taken on the inside corner for a k. Looked low and inside. Cano up, takes strike one. Fox is already announcing the player of the game, though the game is not over. Feck Fox.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:47 pm
  • They show a tight video of ARod chewing on the crucifix he wears around his neck. That’s sure to piss off the Christians.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:48 pm
  • Cano gets a chop infield single. No chance for any play. Bases loaded, one out to Bernie. He lifts an infield fly rule to the apron at third/short. Two away. Last out. Melky up.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:49 pm
  • Melky down 0-2. He hits it 384 feet to deep right. The wall is at 385. Ball game.

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:51 pm
  • I’m so lonely. *sob*
    Oh well. Say goodnight, Gerbil.
    “Goodnight, Gerbil.”

    attackgerbil August 26, 2006, 7:52 pm
  • ARod…0-5 with 3 K’s.

    Rob August 26, 2006, 7:55 pm
  • A-Rod is killing this team. Torre should either drop him to the 8th or 9th hole or bench him. When is the last time this guy came through with a clutch hit to win a game or change momentum? I cringe everytime he’s at the plate.

    YanksFan August 26, 2006, 8:24 pm
  • Good night, Gerbil. We were all napping so we can stay up late and watch Sox.
