Peter Gammons: Get Well Soon

If Roger Angell is this era’s Grantland Rice, Peter Gammons is our Red Smith; the best and most influential reporter on our national pastime, and a most deserving Hall of Famer. Gammons, as you probably know by now, is in intensive care after an aneurism yesterday. We wish him a most speedy recovery.

  • What I love about Gammons is not so much the reporting (though it is great), but the almost childlike glee that comes over his face when he dives into some esoteric stat or some minor leaguer you never heard of but one day will. He’s like a 10-year-old with his baseball cards — totally sincere.

  • I agree MJL. Peter Gammonds greatest attribute as a baseball personality has always been his transparent enthusiasm for the game, for young players, old traditions, and new changes.
I hope he reecovers soon and gets back to the game.
