Playing for Home Field: Yanks-Tigers Gamer II

Chien-Ming Wang was spectacular in the day game today as New York defeated Detroit 2-0.  Wang is now is tied for the major-league lead in wins with Toronto’s Roy Halladay and Oakland’s Barry Zito, who defeated Boston and completed the series sweep today.

Jaret Wright takes the ball for New York and faces Wilfredo Ledezma in the night split of the double header.  Let’s hope Wright can give us a performance simlar to the ones he was throwing in early August.  If he can’t, the bullpen is well-rested as Wang did all the heavy lifting we could ask of him today.  New York is now two games behind Detroit for the best record in the American League. Game two starts in half an hour.  Lineups in the extended.  Comment away.

  • Abreu gets the night off. He was 0-3 with 5 LOB in the first game.

  • So Bernie against a righty instead of a lefty?
    Just. don’t. get. it.

    walein August 30, 2006, 7:06 pm
  • Ledezma is a lefty, no?
Also, it’s good to see Jaret Wright is fully in his element (walking the leadoff man)!

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 7:19 pm

  • Good article about A Rod in Village Voice.
You can get it off of deadspin.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 7:26 pm
  • At least it was only one run.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 7:28 pm
  • This guy is making the Yanks look like AAA Columbus; six up six down.

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 7:36 pm
  • Walein: thanks for the link. Very interesting article.

  • wow, jaret’s doing pretty good today!
I heard on ESPN that Ron Guidry is telling him to challenge hitters with his fastball more or something.
    Maybe thats helping.

  • Wright strikes out the side, two swinging and one looking to end the Detroit 5th.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 8:19 pm
  • Cano keeps swinging at the first pitch. Aargh.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 8:20 pm
  • Ledezma has a one-hitter through five as Wilson grounds out 6-3 to end the inning.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 8:24 pm
  • Sal Fasano has been the only Yankee to get a hit tonight.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 8:26 pm
  • Dmitri Young grounds out to first to lead off the sixth.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 8:27 pm

  • Comebacker from Guillen ends the Tiger 6th. Will we see Wright in the seventh?

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 8:30 pm
  • Time to go home. See you all tomorrow.

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 8:35 pm
  • Come on Arod make’em pay for the intentional walk.

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 8:45 pm
  • Go ahead RBI on a weak dribbler for Arod. I’ll take it though. Let’s go Robbie!!

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 8:48 pm
  • Damn, I thought Robbie hit that one out. Let’s see what type of animal Wright turns out to be from the 7th on. I bet we see Torre after the 1st baseruner allowed by him.

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 8:50 pm
  • nah, torre took him out after second
though fasano made a great play to get sean casey when trying to advance to second

    yankeeboy August 30, 2006, 8:57 pm
  • Come on Yanks, how about some insurance runs?

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 9:05 pm
  • It’s plays like that when I realize how much speed Bern has lost.

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 9:09 pm
  • Nice f’ing play by Robbie, and by Guiel for holding on to the ball!!!!!

    bloodyank78 August 30, 2006, 9:36 pm
  • Wow! That had to hurt. It looked like Wilson had his back folded backwards.

    Jay August 30, 2006, 9:36 pm
  • Yikes. I just saw that was Guiel, not Wilson. He’s not a big guy.

    Jay August 30, 2006, 9:37 pm

  • That loss hurts a bit. Proctor pitching in the first game and the second? Why?

    attackgerbil August 30, 2006, 10:55 pm
  • at least wright pitched better than usual because right now the yankees need more consistency rather than wins

    yankeeboy August 30, 2006, 11:36 pm
  • Ugh. Scottie, Scottie, Scottie. The HR I can accept (sorta), but the walks REALLY pissed me off.
I was praising Torre (again, sorta), too. If Mo is unavailable, says I, Proctor over Farnsworth is the right move. He’s been the better pitcher.
Doh. That’s now two blown saves against the Tigers with Mo unavailable.

Rob (Middletown, CT) August 31, 2006, 7:55 am
  • I disagree with bringing in EDSP for the second time in a day. How does Mo become unavailable after pitching but not Scottie? Unfair if you ask me. I feel that if Bruney can work his way into a game, then Dotel surely deserves to pitch. If Dotel isn’t going to pitch, why is he on the team. Now is when you find out who is ready for October and who isn’t. If Dotel blows this one, I’m not really that upset. If he saves it, his confidence rises. Surgery has to lower confidence in your stuff, so these are the situations he needs to not only be pitching in, but be trusted in.

    RichYF August 31, 2006, 9:31 am
  • It’s being reported (NY Times) that Mo has elbow imfammation and is being sent for an MRI.
    Yikes.

Rob (Middletown, CT) August 31, 2006, 10:23 am
  • It doesn’t sound like anything serious….Times says it’s precautionary. Considering he pitched yesterday, it’s probably true.
In the Post (?), Torre was quoted as saying he didn’t rule out using EDSP today. Someone needs to kidnap this guy (EDSP, not Torre) and ship him off to Australia until the playoffs.
