Plugging the Holes

Magadan  Farrell

… in our coaching staff, that is.

Dave Magadan officially becomes the Sox’ new hitting coach.

Sox fans might recognize one of Magadan’s supporters. Also of interest, this Baseball Prospectus inteview with Padres GM Kevin Towers:

It’s teaching a mindset, teaching them: ‘don’t be afraid to get to two strikes.’ If it’s a player that has an aptitude for learning, he can apply those lessons and get better. When you’re young, in your first year, you’re trying to hit the big home run, get base hits, make the club every at-bat. It’s our job to teach them to grow beyond that point. We’ve got a great teacher in Dave Magadan; his whole theory is that it’s OK to get to two strikes.

  • This guy has got one hell of a set of shoes to fill in matching the Sox offensive output over the past three years.

  • My only reasonable justification/excuse for the firing was personal conflicts between Francona and Papa Jack. They are, in reality, two totally different personalities.
