Pop that Zito: Sox-A’s Gamer II

I can’t get that Italian mojo out of my system, for some reason.  Tonight I will be chowing down at what I hope is one of New York’s finest new restaurants, which means that I won’t be subject to witnessing the Red Sox leaving Avogadro’s Number of men left on base, or Mark Loretta inexplicably missing a simple ground ball.  It also means I won’t get to watch Josh Beckett electrify the Fens or see Manny tee off on the annoyingly surferish and herky-jerky Barry Zito. But all of you will, so use this as your game thread to chat about all the action.

  • Yesterday’s game was horribly frustrating. You just knew something would happen to make us wish the Sox had scored just one or two more of those baserunners. Sure enough… And then Tavarez allowing not just oen, but TWO runs to score in the 11th… *sigh* Way to puncture all the good feeling out of the second half in one game…

  • Beckett starts the game like crap.

  • Manny close to hiiting it out in his 1st AB.

  • Man, I want Zito on the Red Sox. Here’s hoping the A’s go into a massive tailspin before the trade deadline.

  • 1 out…runners on 1st and 2nd. We drive in 0. Imagine that.

  • Big Hurt makes it 2-0

  • Zito’s contract is up at the end of this season. He’ll be commanding big money somewhere next year.

  • Just turned on Gameday… looks ugly!

  • Seanez not making a strong case for future inclusion on the team: walks the first 2 batters he faces after the Sox score 2 in the 6th.

  • Lopez walks the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the eighth. Milton Bradley up for Oakland.

  • Single to left scores Kotsay to make it 8-2 Oaktown.

  • Tavarez is up in the pen for Boston.

  • The wheels are all the way off as Ellis doubles to the left field corner, scoring Thomas and Crosby. Bradley advances to third.

  • Tavarez, covering first, drops the ball on a hard shot up the line that Youk made a SPECTACULAR diving grab to save from going to right. E1 scores two more. It’s now 12-2 Oakland.

  • Tavarez with another brain fart chips a comebacker with his glove on a shot up the middle. AGon would have had the play behind second, but Tavarez redirected the ball to where AGon was before he charged on the play. Gah. It will count as a single, but should be E-1 again.

  • Make that 13-2 rather.
Swisher hits a ground-rule double to right that actually saves a run as Kendall has to hold at third when he would have scored had the ball stayed in play.

  • Tavarez is far, far away from his happy place.

    attackgerbil July 14, 2006, 10:16 pm
  • Tavarez buzzes Kotsay on the 1-2. The 2-2 is hit high and far, into the deepest part of the park in center for a double. It’s 15-2 Oaktown. Oh, the humanity.

  • make it stop

  • This game is just delicious.
    PS: NESN’s in-game grafix suck.

  • Thomas steps in and gets ahead on the count, 2-1. Frank fouls a fastball back to make it 2-2, two outs, runner on 2nd. Tavarez is low on the breaking pitch to make it full. Ball four on the check swing to bring up Payton. Thomas is lifted for a pinch runner. Tavarez came in with two outs and so far five runs have plated since.

  • Finally, the bleeding ends as Payton fans.

  • things are bad when they only thing keeping my interest is Remy’s suggestion that we might see Alex Cora pitch.

  • Hey, YF. How’s the spa? The Chicago/NY game was a treat tonight. Great game. TENSE.

  • Coco leads off with a triple off the monster.

  • Bathroom Break swings and misses for strike one, then fouls it back to make it 0-2. Another foul. Flores brings a curve inside for ball one. The 1-2 is a high fastball, check swing but he didn’t go. The 2-2: popped out to right. Crisp scores on the tag. One away.

  • 15-3, RALLY CAPS ON

    airk July 14, 2006, 10:28 pm
  • Youk takes ball one, then swings and misses at a curve for strike one. Takes a breaking pitch for strike two on the inside corner. The 1-2 misses just inside. The 2-2 is fouled back right.
The game feed just cut off. Good night folks. See you all tomorrow.

  • AG: There is no spa. That’s SFs little idea of a joke. I’m at my inlaws place. Think of the thing most opposite in the world from a spa, and then you’ll know where i am.
By the way, for those “watching” on gamecast, you missed NESN showing some footage of Boomer throwing this afternoon, with a brace on his right knee, and we were informed that he’s feeling pretty good. Maybe. But it looked like he’d been locked in a Hooters for the last 3 months. Yikes. You’ve heard of a landshark? This was a landwhale. Even Remy seemed skeptical.

    YF July 14, 2006, 10:34 pm
  • Ha Ha SFs! We’ve hijacked your thread for evil. That lead’s shrinkin’ faster than Boomer in a steam room! Yowzah!

  • YF: There is no spa.
Sounds like a line from “The Matrix.”

  • If Willie Harris can just hit 3 grand slams right now….

  • And now those classy Sox fans are chanting “Oh Nine Four” at Perez, nevermind that it’s the Sox down by like 43 runs here. And the sad thing is, Fenway is empty enough that Perez can actually hear the taunts loud and clear. That’s all he can probably hear. So it’s far worse than your normal heckling. It’s downright mean.
Remember this the next time some SF starts carping about how obnoxious Yankee fans are. Spare us.

    YF July 14, 2006, 10:51 pm
  • oh please, that’s not bad heckling. the guy knows his own BA, for cryin out loud.

    airk July 14, 2006, 11:01 pm
  • Not bad? When the only audible sound in an entire stadium is the chanting of your miserable batting average, so that everyone–your teammates, your manager, everyone in the stands–can be reminded of nothing else but how much you’re struggling? Talk about humiliating. A bunch of fans chanting that “you suck” in the midst of a close game is easy to shake off. but such an in-you-face kind of deal…that’s gotta hurt.
