Rasner To The Rescue: Yanks Vs. Orioles Gamer XI

Darrell Rasner takes the mound for the Yankees.  Rasner is hoping to put an end to the Yankees two game losing streak.  Opposing Rasner tonight for the Orioles will be Daniel Cabrera.  Cabrera put together a decent (yes decent is a relative term) first half, but over his last two starts he has given up a total of 13 earned runs and 16 hits.  It’s the kind of game on paper you would think plays out as an offensive battle.  Baseball is a funny game though, this could be the night we see Rasner or Cabrera throw their first major league no hitter.  Either way the Yankees need a win and Rasner is just the man for the job.

YANKEES (58-45)
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez DH
Giambi 1B
Cano 2B
Betemit 3B
Cabrera CF
Moeller C
Rasner RHP

  • Yanks, trying to end a two game skid, will face DanCab, who is just as err.. big as Ponson, probably. Let’s hope they never run into each other, or it’ll create some kind of black hole..

  • As a prison warden once said, it’s about time that the Yankees “got their mind(s) right”. It’s amazing how much two blowouts can make a recent 8-game win streak feel suddenly like the very distant past.

  • IH – their 8 game winning streak, outside of the blowout, has depended mostly on pitching. Unless the bats can get hot (harder than it seems, with a sink at the bottom of the lineup that YFs haven’t had to deal with for awhile) it’s going to be tough, and you can only grind so many games out.
Of course, try telling Angels that, who has been overperforming their run differential by a truckload this year..
Well, if Yanks have to destroy someone, Dan Cab would be a great pitcher to do it against. Though the Yanks have done horribly against some horrible pitchers, so we’ll see.

  • Mikey K said on his radio show that Cash/JoeG were willing to give Rasner more chances because his record with Moeller behind the plate is much more palateable than otherwise.
If this is indeed their thinking, now you guys have your own Wakefield/Cash.

  • And where’s our gamer, you Yankee apologists?

  • Bill – to be fair, the “replacement value” of Moeller vs Molina can’t be too high. I guess you can say the same with Varitek/Cash though.
    (At least with hitting..)

  • 3 pitch groundout by Roberts and here we go.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:09 pm
  • Adam Jones take it the other way to the warning track. He looked *awful* against Moose yesterday, but another quick out, and here’s the dangerous Markakis.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:10 pm
  • Markakis looks like he got jammed on that one, but just got enough of it to bloop it to right field over Cano’s head – about two steps away, for a single to end the no-hitter.

  • Rasner with some quick outs, but isn’t exactly ahead of everybody.. 2-1 count to Huff.

I was talking only in terms of the “personal catcher.” My bad. I thought I was clearer.
    Red Sox thread, anyone?
    Anyone?
    Bueller?
    Bueller?

  • Hey SFs, I suggest we turn the Teixeira thread into our de facto gamer. Sound good? See you over there.

  • And Huff hits the outside pitch up the middle for a basehit. It wasn’t soft enough for Markakis to go to third, and almost got nabbed going back to second.
And now Mora singles up the middle to score Markakis – a fat pitch near the middle of the plate and Markakis scores on wide throw by Melky.

  • I just put up a sox gamer. enjoy the game!

  • Rasner now behind 3-0 on Scott, with men on first and second.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:16 pm
  • Rasner not sharp today – walks Scott on 4 pitches, and the bases are loaded with two outs and Kevin Millar at the plate.
Rasner at 19 pitches, only 10 for strikes..

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:17 pm
  • Millar pops up to end the inning and Rasner with a 22 pitch inning, escaping with only 1 run after getting two outs quickly.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:19 pm
  • Damon taps a grounder to third, but the throw beats him by about a step. 1 out.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:21 pm
  • Jeter does about the same thing, with the same results.
    Here’s Abreu.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:23 pm
  • Abreu goes the other way, but this one a little harder, and wasn’t handled cleanly by Mora – not sure if he would’ve gotten Abreu out anyway, but Abreu gets an infield hit now.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:25 pm
  • As of this moment in time, Rasner has a higher ERA than DanCab. The horror.
ARod pulls one down the line, and Scott does a good job of cutting it off, and fires a strong throw to second to hold ARod to a single. Abreu goes to third.
Here’s Giambi trying to make some magic. Go Stash power!

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:28 pm
  • Giambi with the weak fly out to left and we’re done with 1. 1-0 Yanks, and as usual, Yanks not hitting with RISP.

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:29 pm
  • Got to head out. Go Yanks!

    Lar July 29, 2008, 7:33 pm
  • Just wanted to pop in and point out that Lackey has a no-hitter through 6 going.

  • We suck again. It’s my fault. The wife and I were talking Saturday night about how they had turned the corner finally…the new additions were so great and filled our needs…blah, blah, blah. We have no pitching staff except Joba and Mo. Can Joba pitch every game with Mo pitching the 8th and 9th??? Moose (sorry, his winning ways were a fluke), Rasner and Ponson are a joke. Pettitte, who the hell knows what you are going to get from him game to game anymore. The pitching situation was obviously a mirage. Hitting? Don’t even get me started on those hacks. ARod with the K last night in the big spot (not to give more ammo to the haters), Jeter looks old and slow, Abreu sucks in every way (obviously) and Nady? Wasn’t he supposed to be good? Haven’t seen it yet. I go back to what I’ve been saying all along…this team will not make the playoffs. I don’t believe in them, do you guys???
