  • Congrats Papi, indeed. And boy am I glad he’s doing this now, rather than a few weeks ago :)
Santana looks less than dominating tonight…

  • Santana looking very mortal on the mound tonight.

    Rob September 21, 2006, 7:56 pm
  • Hopefully he’ll carry it over into the playoffs!

  • “Oh Johan, he’s so good, facing him in a 5 game series would be sooo scary.” BS. He can be hit just like any other pitcher in the bigs. I am so tired of the “Beware of the Twins” movement. I hope the Yanks smash the Twinkies if they face off.
More importantly though, CONGRATS DAVID AMERICO ORTIZ! The guy is class all the way. Jimmie Fox would be proud to have a guy like Papi take his record.

  • …take nothing away from papi because santana looks human tonight….51 is a big number and he did it despite his health issues…a big tip of the yankee hat to ortiz…i love that guy…

  • …by the way you guys want to trade papi for say…arod?…

  • Can you imagine Ortiz hitting to that Yankee Right field 80 games a year? Holy cow – the numbers would be off the chart. All of the deep fly balls he hits into RF at Fenway (I’ve only seen him go around the pole a few times since he’s been here) would be jacks in the bronx. It would be sick.

  • …he’d hit 100……..barry who?

  • Freakin’ Foulke can’t keep Mauer off the bases…

  • Tip of the cap to Josh Beckett. 8 shutout innings tonight, 5 K, no walks.

  • Indeed. Very nice game for the Sox, overall.

  • …i’ve been a big beckett detractor, but i tip my cap to him tonight…nice effort..

  • I seriously can’t stop grinning. What a great game. Who the hell cares about the postseason after a night like this? Papi hits homers 51 and 52 in front of his home crowd and the fans react accordingly. It just sends chills down my spine, hearing those cheers and seeing Ortiz get his curtain calls. Just as it should be.
Oh, and lest we forget, our oft-maligned ace apparent just outdueled Johan Santana. *Johan Santana* the former (and likely future) Cy Young winner. So NYAH! :-)
