    Lar April 20, 2009, 10:50 am
  • SHIT, so did I.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 11:09 am
  • Three infield outs from Masterson. Me likey.
I’m calling it now, Ellsbury’s meteoric rise to win the 2009 batting title begins now.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 11:14 am
  • Papi with EBH No. 2, although sounds like if should have been an out as Freel quit on it.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:19 am
  • Excellent piece of hitting from Pedro, nails a low, outside pitch to center and scores Ells. 1-0 Sox.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:19 am
  • Stolen base, Pedroia singles him in, and then a double from Papi?

  • IBM, you are way ahead of MLBtv! Ortiz is still up!

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:19 am
  • Freel veered off, but it was the right play IBM, he had no shot at it.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:20 am
  • Good piece of hitting from Papi, going with the pitch.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:20 am
  • Yook walks. Bases loaded. Rocco looks for his first RBI.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:21 am
  • Okay seriously, why is Baldelli batting 5th instead of Bay? I can let it slide once from Francona, but Bay > Baldelli.
    Maybe he’s going for alphabetization?

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 11:22 am
  • Rocco drives in Pedro, avoids the DP. 2-0.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:22 am
  • Youk walks, bases full of Sox with nobody out. Cash in!

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:22 am
  • Ok, this isn’t going to work. You guys are way ahead of me.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:22 am
  • Baldelli grounds out, scores a run. Bay’s OPS is LITERALLY twice as high as Baldelli’s right now.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 11:23 am
  • I don’t get Baldelli fifth either.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:23 am
  • Baldelli drives in a run, Bay pops out. There’s your answer, ath. :)

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:23 am
  • I’m heading to a meeting in a few, so you’ll be spoiler-free for a bit SF.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 11:24 am
  • I’ve got the radio feed on gameday.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:24 am
  • SF, do you want me to stop posting plays before they pop up on gamebay?

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:24 am
  • Any of our regulars running the marathon today?

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:26 am
  • Wow, bases loaded with no outs and we only get one run out of it. At least Ellsbury/Ortiz are looking good now.
    See you guys after lunch.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 11:26 am
  • Gamebay. That’s a nice typo. ;P

    Lar April 20, 2009, 11:26 am
  • Well, good result, not great. Would have liked at least three there with the sacks full and nobody out and someone already plated. Still, a lead!

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:28 am
  • Nah, no biggie IBM, I will be in and out of the thread, keep at it!

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:29 am
  • K for JM. One down.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:31 am
  • Hey, how do the White Sox beat the snot out of Tampa down there but Tampa beats our guys 2 of 3 in Fenway? Methinks this Tampa team might be a bit psychotic this year.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:34 am
  • Solid inning from Masterson there.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:36 am
  • Two-out walk for Masterson, but he gets out of it. 28 pitches through two.
Joe and Obie saying that Hendrickson used to play in the NBA.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:36 am
  • TEK!!
    Our home run leader.
    Into the Monster seats!
    3-0!

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:38 am
  • Tek!! Bombs away!

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:39 am
  • Superb swing from Tek there (not exactly a brilliant observation). He really got on that pitch.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:40 am
  • Pickoff at second gone awry, man down! Freel in serious pain. Looks like he got hit by the ball square on the side of the helmet. Hope he is ok, he’s really in pain.

    SF April 20, 2009, 11:50 am
  • Masterson appears to be laboring a bit.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:57 am
  • And he gets out of it.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:58 am
  • OK. I gotta go check in on a murder trial.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 11:58 am
  • Papi’s “streak” shortlived, another K.

    SF April 20, 2009, 12:04 pm
  • 1/3, two down for Lowell.

    SF April 20, 2009, 12:10 pm
  • Whiff.

    SF April 20, 2009, 12:14 pm
  • Baldelli left the game with a leg injury.
My guess is his hammy is still acting up, which is why he hasn’t played much lately. Carter moves into right.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 12:35 pm
  • Masterson through 5. He’s hitting 94 on the NESN gun, and the ball is moving nicely. He’s doing a great job today.

    SF April 20, 2009, 12:36 pm
  • Pedro with a leadoff double high off the wall.

    SF April 20, 2009, 12:38 pm
  • Pedro doubles, Papi pops out, Yooks gets INT walk and Chris Carter up next.
Baldelli tweaked the hammy running to third on an error.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 12:38 pm
  • Papi pops to short left. Still worried.

    SF April 20, 2009, 12:40 pm
  • Justin at 73 pitches after 5? Excellent!
Carter called out on a pitch outside. Seriously, Bay needs to bat 5th when Drew is out.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 12:41 pm
  • Carter Ks.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 12:41 pm
  • I smell a Bay HR here.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 12:42 pm
  • Crap.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 12:43 pm
  • I’m surprised JM is still hitting 96 with his fastball. I didn’t think he could do that as a starter.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 12:45 pm
  • Two more men left on base, including the leadoff double. Bad.

    SF April 20, 2009, 12:46 pm
  • Long at-bat and Masterson is out. Delcarmen in.
It’s been interesting seeing them use Delcarmen as middle-relief instead of as the setup man this season. Especially considering how well he’s done so far, compared to Saito or Okajima.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 12:52 pm
  • Seems you guys should be having a Joba-type debate with Masterson. The kid can pitch. Back to my critique of your off-season: The arms signed blocked better ones and the offense signed didn’t do enough to fill-in the gaps.

    Rob April 20, 2009, 12:56 pm
  • Spot of trouble here after Green botches a grounder. 1/2, 1 out, Delcarmen in for Masterson…
and there’s the DP! Well done, Manny!

    SF April 20, 2009, 1:00 pm
  • Varitek’s .977 OPS drinks your milkshake.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 1:04 pm
  • Rob, when everyone is healthy, we really don’t need Masterson in the rotation.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:05 pm
  • Ells singles up the middle, 2 on, 2 out; would be a nice spot for Pedro to keep that average climbing.
    Ellsbury’s avg. climbing, too.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:07 pm
  • RBI single for Pedroia. 4-1.
Look out, AL. Pedro’s warming up.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:08 pm
  • Everyone, now.
    PA-PI! PA-PI! PA-PI!

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:09 pm
  • PAPI!!!
A two-RBI TRIPLE off the CF wall!!
    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:10 pm
  • Seems you guys should be having a Joba-type debate with Masterson
    ________
Or, we could leave all the debates, DUI’s, and drama in NY. hahah:)

    Brad April 20, 2009, 1:11 pm
  • Pie didn’t play the ricochet well.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:11 pm
  • Youks walks again. Carter with another RBI chance.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:13 pm
  • Triple from Papi? Me likey.
    Ellsbury/Pedroia/Ortiz today: 7 for 12, 4 runs, 4 RBI.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 1:14 pm
  • Carter Ks again. Weak AB.
    But a 3-run inning.
    Is Papi finally coming around?

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:14 pm
  • If Papi came get one more hit, his average will rise above .200. …
Also, Ath, Youks was walked 3 times.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:16 pm
  • Radhames Liz, with a 36.00 ERA and truely awful career numbers against the Sox, is now pitching for Baltimore.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:31 pm
  • Bay leads off with his AL-leading 15th BB.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:32 pm
  • Lowell RBI double. 7-1.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:33 pm
  • Holy crap, that’s a nice stat IBM. And if they want to walk Youk 3 times per game, I’m totally cool with that.
Lowell joins in on the rape-Baltimore party with a double of his own.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 1:34 pm
  • Nick Green contributes by getting HBP. We’ll take it.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 1:36 pm
  • Atheose said…

Reply Monday, April 20, 2009 at 11:14 AM

I just wanted to point out that I said this at the beginning of the game. Ellsbury singles again, three hits in the game. Last year he had 11 games with three or more hits. Three of those were against Baltimore.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 1:40 pm
  • 3 runs in.
    Ortiz plunked.
Sacks packed for Youks; pitching change.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:41 pm
  • Kevin “I don’t want a 4th walk I want a HIT” Youkilis, your 2009 MVP.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 1:46 pm
  • Youks with a flukey single; Carter sac fly. 11-1.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:46 pm
  • Radhames Liz has allowed 10 ER in 1.1 IP this season;
contribute your Yankee pitching joke here.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 1:50 pm
  • Okay, now that we’re winning 12-1 I think it’s safe to bring in Daisuke or Penny.

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 1:54 pm
  • Hunter Jones makes his ML debut for the Red Sox.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 2:15 pm
  • And it’s a 4-game sweep.
12-1. Sox now over .500 and have won five straight.

    I'mBillMcNeal April 20, 2009, 2:19 pm
  • Uh oh, Sox tied for 2nd place with the Yankees. Pressures on you guys tonight!

    Atheose April 20, 2009, 2:38 pm
  • Man, what a huge difference in the offense when Jacoby’s hitting. That leadoff spot is so key… Pedroia coming back to life doesn’t hurt either. :)
