SALT: Tribe-Yanks (Day)Gamer III

Some say ballplayers are an apolitical bunch. Perhaps. Certainly we don’t get too many references to Iran-Contra in post-game, clubhouse interviews. And so we welcomed Eduardo Perez’s response when questioned about the incidents on the field last night: “I’m Ollie North-ing that one.” Beautiful. We’ll skip further analysis of the conflagration but to say that the Yanks have now served notice that attacks upon the homeland Captain and his pals will be met with a retaliatory strike. And with that now established, cooler heads (ie, Mike Mussina) can move on, bearing—to keep with the 80s Cold War metaphors—a Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. Don’t hit us, we won’t hit you. Anyway, the Yanks are in position to SALT this series away with a sweep this afternoon, and have their best man on the mound to make that happen. Kissinger may be watching the World Cup. We’ll be watching the Bombers. Comment on what transpires here.

  • Sizemore down. Michaels Ks. Good start for Moose.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:12 pm
  • Posada is back in there catching. I’m surprised, but I guess his elbow is OK which is good.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 1:13 pm
  • Moose walks Hafner. Couldn’t he have done that with Thomas last weekend? Yes, I’m still bitter…

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 1:14 pm
  • Hafner walks on a borderline high and away pitch. No reason to throw anything to good to Hafner.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:14 pm
  • Moose hangs one right over the middle. Martinez just watches.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:16 pm
  • And now grounds to first. Easy inning.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:16 pm
  • Good morning people!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 1:18 pm
  • Kissinger Report: England and Trinidad scoreless in the 60th minute. Thatcher would not let this happen.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:19 pm
  • And 2 quick outs for the Yanks bring us to Jetes, who barely gets the ball 5 feet. Nice catch by Micaels on Damon.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:21 pm
  • since I’ve no idea about the World Cup, I’m guessing that Trinidad is a big underdog. Right?

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 1:22 pm
  • Broussard to Cano, 4-3, to start the 2nd.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:24 pm
  • Moose getting squeezed by Guccione. Should be 0-2 on Belliard here.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:25 pm
  • T&T is a big dog.
Belliard GRD to right. Blame the ump.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:27 pm
  • Yes, Nick, they are. I think I’m the only Brit in NYC who isn’t playing hookie right now to watch the game.
Then again, England isn’t as good as it thinks it is. But should be good enough to beat T&T, which it doesn’t appear to be doing.
    Let’s go Moose!

    Sam June 15, 2006, 1:27 pm
  • Sam, when did you start liking the Yanks? I’m impressed that a Brit is such a fan of the Yanks!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 1:29 pm
  • Ouch. Peralta doubles in Belliard. 1-0.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:29 pm
  • This is my fourth season, Nick. My brother, who also lives here, has been a fan for 10 years.

    Sam June 15, 2006, 1:31 pm
  • Moose has been relatively shaky in his past two starts, right? I hope this isn’t the start of something…

    Sam June 15, 2006, 1:32 pm
  • I’m kinda worried that this is a sign of things to come this game. The Indians tend to score their runs in bunches.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 1:36 pm
  • Another double scores a run. 2-0.

    YF June 15, 2006, 1:39 pm
  • Maybe that was their bunch right there, 2nd inning. Moose was a little shaky at the beginning against the A’s but he got stronger as the game went on. I just hope we don’t dig ourselves too deep a hole.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 1:41 pm
  • Moose seems to be back on track.

    Sam June 15, 2006, 1:50 pm
  • My radio just quit on me, so I am at the mercy of Gameday. Did that flyout to Melky really go that far? Gameday seems to think it was at the wall.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 1:55 pm
  • Old Man Bernie doubles to left!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 1:56 pm
  • I have to say that Bernie’s a decent DH option as a righty.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 1:57 pm
  • YM, No Melky caught the ball near the corner about 8 feet from the wall give or take.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 1:59 pm
  • Thanks, BY78.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 2:00 pm
  • Bernie’s nice double all for naught.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:00 pm
  • and nothing comes of the double. The Yanks bat are asleep right now.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 2:01 pm
  • Gotta run folks. Check in from the road in a few innings. GO YANKS!

    YF June 15, 2006, 2:01 pm
  • That sucks.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:07 pm
  • Stolen base and an E2

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:07 pm
  • It occurs to me that I was lucky to have gone to the last night’s game and not to this one. :-/

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 2:11 pm
  • I love it when it works out like that YM. When the Yanks were in town early this year playing the Halos, I didn’t go to the first two games but went to the Sunday game where Jorgie had 2 homers and the Yanks won 10-1.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:18 pm
  • LECHE!!!!!!!

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:19 pm
  • Melky Mania!!!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 2:19 pm
  • Congrats to Melky! Did he get a curtain-call?

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 2:20 pm
  • No he did not.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:22 pm
  • Boo. Leche shoulda got a CC. Did they get the ball for him at least? Think he’s got a couple more in him for this game?

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 2:36 pm
  • If anyone deserves a CC, it’s Melky for his first big league HR. Bad YFs!
Weekday day games bring out the amateurs.

    Sam June 15, 2006, 2:38 pm
  • They got the ball for him. It landed on the net by Monument Park. Johnny D w/ a chance to make this game tighter.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:42 pm
  • No dice, Johnny strands two.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 2:43 pm
  • Off topic but interesting: say goodbye to David Riske, SFs:

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 2:53 pm
  • Moose is letting us down :-/ But…3 hits by the offense through 5 innings? Absurd.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 2:57 pm
  • I can’t believe I was on the road for Leche’s first dinger. So sad.

    YF June 15, 2006, 2:59 pm
  • It’s probably time to take Moose out of the game.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:00 pm
  • take care now moose.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 3:01 pm
  • I wonder who’s going to hit a grand slam for the Twins tonight. My guess is Mauer.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:03 pm
  • hey…i wasn’t snipping. just telling moose to take care. my own little personal CC.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 3:09 pm
  • me neither! I was just speculating. I’m a fan of patterns. I think what the anemic Twins offense is doing against the Sox’s offense is interesting.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:13 pm
  • more like what the sox offense is doing to them selves. we’re not even leaving runners on like we like too. i like patterns too. the twins in less than 24 hr’s have more slams than jeter does in a career. i didn’t want to do that.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 3:16 pm
  • Jeter has more rings than the Twins have as a franchise…I think

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:17 pm
  • oh yeah….well we have a bat boy who……oh nevermind.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 3:24 pm
  • That bat boy incident was hysterical. Would’ve been even better Ortiz was the one to tackle that moron. Of course said moron would then end up shaped like a pancake, but he had it coming.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 3:29 pm
  • A Rod! Over the bullpen.

    walein June 15, 2006, 3:29 pm
  • Come on rod, don’t give up so easily! Nick is weak!

    RichYF June 15, 2006, 3:30 pm
  • leaving this high-level trash talking session and into serious analysis, let me offer my humble opinion: more than the Sox offense, I think the biggest problem for the team is the pitching. If I were a Sox fan, that would be, by far, my biggest concern. Outside of Schilling, Papelbon, and Wake, who on the staff has not been a huge disappointment?

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:30 pm
  • Hey, Rich! I heard that!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:31 pm
  • Wake goes for Boston tonight, against Carlos Silva. I have a strong premonition that Sox’ offensive woes will be solved, at least for tonight.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 3:34 pm
  • What do we have here?! Looks like the Yanks aren’t giving up quite yet!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:35 pm
  • Ha! I go to study a little bit after that 3 run shot by Hollandsworth and check back in to see homers by Bernie and Arod. The Tribe’s bullpen can be taken advantage of.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:35 pm
  • Shhhhh, Nick, don’t scare them off ;-)

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 3:36 pm
  • Timlin, minus injury. Riske (in limited outings, admittedly) till he was traded today. Yeah, we need a bullpen. I actually think that Clement and Beckett are bound to have better second halves (but then I would, wouldn’t I?) based on career numbers (even considering Beckett’s move to the AL). But they both may stay in the toilet, who knows? Then there’s that whole “fifth starter” thing…
Darn those Indians, two solo homers by the Yanks have made it a game again!

    Devine June 15, 2006, 3:37 pm
  • Just saw O’s/Jays highlight on YES; BJ Ryan is straight nasty this year.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:41 pm
  • Oh shit Small’s in.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:41 pm
  • The Jays win again. Crap.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:42 pm
  • Torre is satisfied with 2 out of 3 I guess. I put the blame squarely on Francona for this decision.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:43 pm
  • LOL

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:45 pm
  • personally i’m not as concerned about pitching so much. we’re giving promissing young talent a chance to develope while maintaining a division lead. if shoddy performances by seanez/tavarez/foulke in may and june lead to solid efforts from hasen/lester/delcarmen/alvarez in august and september, things will be just fine. you can’t overlook the fact that we have the best closer in the game.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 3:47 pm
  • Torre taking Damon out before his abat for Crosby in center? Is Damon hurt or is this Torre “Magic?”

    walein June 15, 2006, 3:49 pm
  • Guess Bubba’s hammy is ok, he burned to second on that.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:51 pm
  • these guys are all unproven talent. Not to say they’re not prospects, but they’re not known quantities at the major league level. And Francona’s reluctance to go to young players is not exactly encouraging if you think these guys are going to play big parts.
The biggest concern though is Beckett and Clement. WTF is wrong with them?

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:51 pm
  • I’d guess that Torre wants Bubba to get an AB or two in a real game. And hey, did Small find that jar of pixie dust he seems to have misplaced at the beginning of the season?

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 3:52 pm
  • The Bubba substitution has me worried. What’s wrong with Johnny?

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:52 pm
  • Leche walks!! Men on 1st and 2nd no outs.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:52 pm
  • Crosby double…Joe Torre works in mysterious ways.

    walein June 15, 2006, 3:52 pm
  • His foot is probably acting up on him.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:53 pm
  • Bases Loaded for Giambino.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:54 pm
  • Let’s go Giambino!!!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:56 pm
  • Oooh, if ARod makes it to the plate this inning I’ll probably hear the boos in my office.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 3:56 pm
  • A-Rod’s up with 1st and 3rd, 1 out. Here we go…

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 3:59 pm
  • Cairo just took away the DP w/a steal.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 3:59 pm
  • AROD K’s. Shit.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 4:01 pm
  • I hear the boos from here

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 4:02 pm
  • Hmmm….

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:02 pm
  • Ditto, Nick. Earmuffs!

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:03 pm
  • sf-rod say something! The suspense is killing me.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 4:03 pm
  • sf-rod is too busy with his yankee voodoo dolls ;-)

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:04 pm
  • what’s happening in the game? anyone???

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:06 pm
  • This duel is upsetting my stomach, even on Gameday.

    Devine June 15, 2006, 4:06 pm
  • Dude, bases loaded, no outs = 1 run.

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 4:06 pm
  • F***

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:07 pm
  • a-rod……….oh nevermind.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 4:08 pm
  • bad job by the heart of the order. I miss Sheffield right now.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 4:08 pm
  • Thanks, “Fausto Carmona”.

    Devine June 15, 2006, 4:09 pm
  • Huh. I guess the “pixie dust” jar was mislabeled.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:13 pm
  • Aaron Small should be taken out of the game pronto!

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 4:13 pm
  • news from wfan is that damon pulled something during a batting pratice CC…..”hello columbus….do we have anyone left with a cute name?….send em’ up”.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 4:16 pm
  • I won’t snipe anymore, YFs…I apologize if I got on any nerves.

    Devine June 15, 2006, 4:18 pm
  • Is there a “Pudgy Stankiewicz” on the farm?

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 4:18 pm
  • Someone should tell Torre that it’s okay to sweep a series.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 4:28 pm
  • Someone should tell Villone that what he is doing right now is not going to help him get more playing time.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:30 pm
  • Just watch, they’ll score 2 runs this inning -_-

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:33 pm
  • Well I’m out. Maybe there will be a 5 run bottom of the ninth in my absence. :P Hey, took the series w/the Tribe, onward to the Nats, at the very least the Yanks will still be tied for 1st. Go get’em Twins!

    bloodyank78 June 15, 2006, 4:34 pm
  • At least Cano extends his hitting streak….

    Anonymous June 15, 2006, 4:34 pm
  • The best thing about this is when Cairo comes up to bat with the bases loaded and two outs.

    walein June 15, 2006, 4:37 pm
  • Walein, I think we’re pretty safe from that happening.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:38 pm
  • I really don’t understand Torre’s use of the bullpen today. He managed really as if he was ok with a loss. Farnsworth and Mo are both available. There’s no excuse to bring Small out there in the 9th.

    Nick-YF June 15, 2006, 4:38 pm
  • Ovah. Go Twinkies!

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 4:39 pm
  • Torre doesn’t want to pull away too far from BoSox.

    Cape Codder June 15, 2006, 4:40 pm
  • no “pudgey” but there’s a coltor bean.

    sf rod June 15, 2006, 4:47 pm
  • well, you have to be in the majors with that name :-)

    Cape Codder June 15, 2006, 4:52 pm
  • Peter Abraham reports Randy was suspended 5 games, Torre one for yesterday’s extracurriculars. A bit steep, considering he didn’t even hit the guy.

    yankeemonkey June 15, 2006, 5:06 pm
  • That’s ridiculous.

    walein June 15, 2006, 5:21 pm
