Saturday Sports Smattering

It’s a Saturday in April, which means we can watch hockey, basketball, tennis, golf, auto racing, baseball, pretty much everything but the pigskin (though true "football" can still be had).   Today we’re not ashamed to admit it’s Masters time (we’re pulling for Tiger, not afraid to say), so we’ll be tuning into CBS’ annual saccharine coverage of the tourney, if the storms ever pass through Augusta.  We also hope the weather holds in Baltimore, as NESN fires up the Sox-O’s at 435.  It’s not looking good; low temperatures once (and if) the rain stops are predicted in the 30s. The remote is either going to be very busy, or Mother Nature is going to conspire to make us very bored.  Consider this your wintry April game thread.

  • Golf? How can you actually watch that? I guess I can understand why people play it, but it’s more boring to watch than NASCAR, which is pretty damn boring if you ask me. And tyhe weather sucks. At least it’s just rain in Baltimore though. We got freezing rain in RI today. And snow on Thirsday. Ugh.

  • And the game finally starts. Quick first inning – the hitters can’t be loving 38 degrees.

  • Bases full of Sox, Trot Nixon pinch hitting for Whiffy Mo. Come on, Trot, give us a cushion.

  • Blech, Trot. Whiffy Mo could have done that.

  • Curt has answered some of the early questions, swimmingly. Let’s see if he can keep this up for a long stretch. Fingers crossed.

  • Yeah, I think its fair to say that Curt has recovered from the ankle injury. Whether or not he’s back to ’04 form remains to be seen. He’ll need 8 to 10 starts to answer that, but so far I’m very optimistic.
Paps and Timlin. Much love there.
Wily Mo. Mr. I Swing At Anything. We all said he was going to frustrate the hell out of us. Liked the old send Wily Mo up to the on deck circle and then replace him at the last moment with Trot against the right hander move by Tito. Course, then Trot whiffed but cares about the details? Its the strategy that mattered. =)
    Two other comments:
    1. Manny has found his stroke. Now its time to find the power.
    2. Sox need to do a better job of hitting with men in scoring position.

  • Oh yeah. I know its only been 5 games, but are my eyes deceiving me? Because it looks like Manny is making a hell of an effort to actually play a solid left field . . .
