Schwarz on Lidle

This is probably the nicest tribute to Cory Lidle I’ve read, from his friend the baseball writer Alan Schwarz. Will make you think twice. Or maybe more times than that.

  • This is all too sad. I can barely read about it. Schwarz’ piece is worth it, though.

  • Like I have said elsewhere, this article only reinforces my thinking that baseball has lost one of its nicer guys.

  • What, no Mets gamethread? Oh well.
Both Weaver and Glavine are cruising so far, but I’d say it’s favoring the Mets in that Glavine’s averaging just about 10 pitches per inning… At this rate, they can get him out with a low pitch count and save some of his arm for a later game in the Series.

  • It’s been a heck of a duel… Weaver was almost perfect through 5-2/3. But Beltran just hit a long 2-run homer. 2-0 Mets.
Glavine’s pitch count still low, could go another inning, but with the cushion the Mets may go to the pen.

  • are we on vacation here? The Yankees declined the option on Moose – who here thinks he stay’s in NY considering the problems between his agent and the FO? If not NY, do you think that Boston takes the flier on him and offers him the contract he wants?

  • i would take the moose on a one year deal with an option for two. an incentive based contract similar to wells would make sense. if the sox are to make any serious play to sign sheff, i’ll root for the royals till the contract is over. but i can’t see that happening.
