SHEFF! Yanks-SatanFish Gamer 1

Gary Sheffield is back, playing first base. Pete Abraham says he’s borrowing Craig Wilson’s glove; Craig will be able to Ebay that glove for a small fortune. Defacto Yankee ace Chien-Ming Wang is pitching. I am very excited to watch this game, especially to see Sheff swinging from his heels, with Larry Bowa retreating as far out of the way as possible as the ball screams off the bat unlike any other line-drive pull hitter in the game. Good stuff. There’s also an interesting lineup tonight, with Cabrera leading off, Cano hitting second, and Jeter hitting in the 3-hole; you will find it in the extended. Comment away.

  • Any Yankees fans worried about Mariano Rivera at this point?

  • I’m not worried yet, but I will be if he doesn’t appear this week.
Sheff grounds out 6-3 in his first at bat. His swing looks the same.

  • Wang’s sinking fastball is moving, but TB is getting good wood on it. We’ve currently got the hittable Wang on the mound as Navarro singles to lead off the second.
    Wang then gets a K.
No love from the ump as Upton catches a break on a pitch that should have been strike three. Then a ground out as Sheff makes his first fielding play for the first out.

  • Well, I guess Mo is OK after all. Struck out the side in between gving up a broken-bat single and and HBP. A little rusty for sure, but hopefully that elbow will hold up!
