Sheffield Speaks. Should We Listen?

Andrea Kremer interviewed Gary Sheffield for HBO’s Real Sports, to be aired tonight.  Some of the revelations from Sheff include that black players are treated differently than white players by the Yankeees organization, that Jeter "ain’t all the way black", and that all the turmoil in Sheff’s life is because of women.

Here’s Sheffield’s wisdom regaring the topic of steroids: "In a million years, I don’t care what anybody says, steroids
is something you shoot in your butt. I do know that . . . The bottom
line is steroids is something you stick in your butt –- period."

More inspired thought from Sheff at Newsday.

Interestingly enough, Sheffield also believes this to be true about taking someone’s temperature.
“You think putting that thing under your tongue is going to work?! Let me show you how it’s done!”

  • “In a copy of the interview made available to Newsday late Friday morning, Sheffield begins by saying, “I tell myself every offseason I’m not going to say anything crazy. I’m just going to have a peaceful season . . . Can’t do it. I’m cut from a different cloth.”
I think so Sheff, perhaps the same sale that Carl Everett bought cloth at…wackjob.

  • I’m really not clear what point Sheff is trying to make with all this talk about butts, and I’m really not sure I *want* to know…
But (as pointed out above) he’s at least confirmed himself as the #2 craziest mofo in baseball, after Crazy Carl.
Even so, Cashman/Steinbrenner have to be kicking themselves for letting him walk…

  • Other things Shef won’t use because it “goes in your butt:”
    1) Preparation H
    2) Unicorn Horn (ground up for ‘healing properties’)
    3) Cocaine (see Stevie Nicks for that story)
    4) Advil (the “Butt” kind)

  • I guess sheffnever considered that Torre didn’t treat him like a man cause he didn’t act like one. If you spend your whole time with a team whining about this and that and just plain being an idiot, people aren’t gonna treat you wiht respect. Also, what the hell kind of steroid excuse is that? You can put thermometers in your butt, are they steroids? I don’t even need to continue, he’s just dumb and apparently proud of it

well, the Yankees did get three pitching prospects out of the deal..
    – Humberto Sanchez (sidelined potentially forever after Tommy John surgery)
    – Kevin Whelan (demoted to single A Tampa from Trenton to work on command – but some say he actually might work out in a couple years)
    – Anthony Claggett (struggling in Tampa)
    .. for ..
a DH whose VORP is second only to Ortiz
So, um, well, there’s that I guess. Might as well have let him walk.
