Snatched: Sox-Yanks Gamer III

Defeat from the Jaws of Victory, twice. Hughes is scratched as the Yankees must think they are getting a bigger boat with David Huff, bailing Hughes out of his start. But is it the Yankee starters that are the worry? Pettitte left the game with Bombers up 8-3 heading into the last three innings, but that wasn’t enough, was it? Nope. And let’s not even bring up Thursday. John Lackey merely needs to keep the Sox within, oh seven runs or so, until the Yankees unleash their fully depleted bullpen. Comment away.

  • I guess this means Hughes is theoretically available as a reliever. Yay. A jack-o-lantern left on the porch until Thanksgiving has more teeth than the Yankees pitching staff right now.

  • Lackey through the 1st on 8 pitches, slightly beating Huff’s 12.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 1:17 pm
  • Oh, Huff’s a lefty? Low-scoring affair probable.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 1:22 pm
  • Napoli gives the Sox a 2-0 lead. I guess that about averages Lackey’s usual run support.

With Napoli we’re really missing the big picture by concentrating on his K’s. After last night’s game his OBP was practically identical to Victorino’s.

  • Gomes three-run jack. That gives Lackey something to work with.

  • Gameday tells me Huff’s effectiveness may be slipping since he’s passed the 45-pitch mark. So five runs in 2 2/3 innings these days counts as effective?

  • 8-2 Sox now. Be kinda nice to give Koji a day off today.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 2:19 pm
  • Never mind that low-scoring prediction…gotta be surreal for Lackey.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 2:22 pm
  • Pedey double. Now everybody has a hit.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 2:23 pm
  • Nunez double. Lackey has allowed quite a few guys to reach today on an 0-2 count.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 2:32 pm
  • Another double. Not quite the Lackey we’re used to this season.

  • Make of it what you want, Yankee fans, but the White Sox have taken the lead against the Orioles.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 2:42 pm
  • Xander’s first major league home! Makes it 12-3.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 2:49 pm
  • uncle. can we just skip to next year right now?

    attackgerbil September 7, 2013, 2:56 pm
  • I’ll give odds that the Yankees will send a position player, probably someone like Mark Reynolds, to the mound in eighth and/or ninth.

  • > Make of it what you want, Yankee fans, but the White Sox have taken the lead against the Orioles.

I can make a hat, or a brooch..

Damn it, baseball has me pissed off.

  • A nine-run lead and Lackey has trouble throwing strikes?

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:17 pm
  • 12-5. Now officially not a quality start for Lackey. But he picked a good day for his not so good day.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:22 pm
  • 12-6. So Lackey does not make even make it out of the 6th. I just called it a not so good day. Now I’d say he sucked.

  • I remember Thornton having a good inning recently, but mostly he has not been very good. So there …

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:26 pm
  • And of course he immediately gives up a single to Cano.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:27 pm
  • And now a another base hit. 12-7. So Thornton sucks big time.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:29 pm
  • Inning over. Mercy.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:32 pm
  • Wow, Johnny. That was elegant.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:46 pm
  • 8-pitch 1-2-3 inning from Drake Britton. Attaboy.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 3:49 pm
  • And now Britton loses it. Base hit, walk … They should be cruising through the final innings and instead we get this.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:00 pm
  • Tazawa coming in with a runner on base. That usually does not work too well.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:04 pm
  • Never easy.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:09 pm
  • Thornton has no place on a theoretical postseason roster.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:11 pm
  • Tazawa gets the two outs. Who’s to close? Breslow? A bit of insurance would be highly welcome.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:13 pm
  • Tazawa preserve us (and the lead)…wonder if Koji works again today. He’s been ridden awful hard.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:13 pm
  • Or Koji, of course. But I’m assuming he’s not available today.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:14 pm
  • Brett Marshall might be today’s best pitcher. And as I type, Napoli hits another home run to make it 13-9.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:18 pm
  • Napoli going off like a bomb in this series. Like the ones he’s hitting.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:21 pm
  • Tazawa stays in the game.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:28 pm
  • One away.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:30 pm
  • 2 more outs would officially eliminate the BJs from the division.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:31 pm
  • Four-pitch walk to Overbay. Tazawa out, Breslow in, Ichiro up.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:34 pm
  • Farrell not fucking around, grabs Breslow for Suzuki after 4-pitch BB to Overbay.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:34 pm
  • Two gone.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:38 pm
  • Vernon Wells to pinch hit.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:38 pm
  • Uno…mas…

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:38 pm
  • Splitting would have been okay…winning is better. Yanks have scored 8, 8, 9 and lost every game, ouch.

    Devine September 7, 2013, 4:40 pm
  • One pitch, game over. That was much closer in the end than it needed to be.

Not sure I’m ready to celebrate Blue Jays elimination day … let’s hope Ellsbury’s injury is not to serious, but I fear he might be out for the season.

pale blue eyes September 7, 2013, 4:40 pm
  • Gah.

    attackgerbil September 7, 2013, 6:13 pm
  • No mas, por favor.

    attackgerbil September 7, 2013, 6:13 pm
  • I get to call sooth, in as much as a cock picks a sunrise at 15 minutes to daybreak. Fuck. Fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck. What is next?

    attackgerbil September 7, 2013, 11:44 pm
  • At least we aren’t getting swept by the Mariners. It seems impossible at this point but the Yankees are still very much in the playoff hunt. It seems cruel and unusual to wish this aging band of brothers into October, where there all but certain to be slaughtered, but I can’t help myself. Go Yanks.
