Late Night With Kason & King Felix: Sox-M’s Gamer V

Kason Gabbard, effective in his five-inning victory over Atlanta at Fenway earlier in the season, makes his second appearance of the year tonight. The Sox, after losing last night, are still 4-3 on their roadie and continue to pace the majors as they sit 21 games over even ball; one for each of the years of young Felix Hernandez, who handles the bump for the M’s and who threw a stellar one-hit shutout with two walks and six K’s when the Sox last saw the remarkable 21-year-old. Here’s a place for you to comment on tonight’s proceedings.

Gabbard made his major-league debut on July 22 at Safeco last year against Hernandez, in which he suffered the loss. He also pitched relief against the M’s last year, not allowing a run.

I’ll get the lineups in place when I have a chance.

Thanks, TJ.

  • If I remember right, it was Drew who had the only hit against Felix in that one hitter against Dice-K.
Here’s hoping Kason has his best stuff tonight.

  • Kason Gabbard can go right back to Pawtucket. He’s a terrible pitcher from what I can tell. His start against the Braves was a Houdini job, and tonight he’s been pathetic. How is a spot-start for someone like Buchholz a terrible idea, get the kid a cup of coffee? Can he do worse than Gabbard? Will one bad start ruin his confidence, and if that’s the case what does that say about his head?
The Sox’ rotation right now is an ace, an ace-in-waiting, and three #5 starters. They have a third baseman who is declining before the 81 game mark and a shortstop who, for lack of a better term, sucks. This team, 10 game lead or not, needs help. Serious help, as far as I am concerned.

Kason vs. Felix is just not fair.

no sleep til brooklyn SF June 26, 2007, 11:33 pm
  • This game is agonizing. Felix alternates between looking lost and dominant. Cora just helped him out lining into a double play on the first pitch… The Sox are getting loads of opportunities and continuing their merry left-on-base parade, started last night.
Looks like Gabby’s finally on the way out. Bases juiced, 1 out. Here comes Delcarmen.

  • DELCARMEN!

    Anonymous June 26, 2007, 11:38 pm
  • Several of Gabbard’s pitches have looked close to me. At times it’s felt like there’s two strike zones – a wide one for Felix and a tight one for Gabbard.

  • Well the Toronto Blue Jays AA manager looks like an ass.
He Manages the New Hampshire Fishercats the AA affiliate of Toronto. Last nite when Buchholz left the game he received a standing ovation from the Boston faithful in Manchester, NH.
Bill Masse said to the New Hampshire Union Leader following the game “I think it’s sad. This is New Hampshire’s team, Manchester’s team and to see Clay Buchholz get a standing ovation was absolutely disgraceful.”
Someone should tell Mr Masse that these fans are here to watch some cheap baseball but there blood runs Red Sox Red and they live and die by the Red Sox.
The Fishercats front office should also sit down with him. After all the team knows what their fan base is, They sell Red Sox merchandise in its giftshop and are even having a David Ortiz bobblehead night Friday.
