2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Victor Martinez, DH
4. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
5. J.D. Drew, RF
6. Mike Lowell, 3B
7. Jeremy Hermida, LF

9. Marco Scutaro, SS

Scutaro follows the HRs with a single, steals 2nd. Advances to 3rd on Ellsbury’s ground out to 2d.
Pedroia hit by a pitch.
1st and 3rd, 1 out.

Dejesus singles to center, Getz scores.
4-3
Dejesus with a 7 pitch AB, that is 17 pitches between the last two batters. Beckett appears done.
Tito leaves him in to pitch to Posednik.

Sox with 12 hits tonight, 5 HRs (Tek 2, Youk 1, Pedroia 1 and Hermida 1).
V-Mart 0-5 tonight. The only starter without a hit. Cameron 0-1 in a PH.
Beltre in to play 3rd.

Game….8-3
Should be interesting tomorrow for the local writers. 5 HRs and Papi sitting the night out, with three bench players getting the start. Youk, Lowell and Hermida were a combined 4-10 with 3 HR, 3 RBI and 4 Runs scored.

Callaspo with a Sac Fly…
5-3
I wish Papi would have had a hit there also, i do think it is insane to judge a guy’s worth 1 week into the season.

I agree PBE, Buchholz tries to nibble the edges and finesse his way out of jams instead of just attacking the strike zone.
I am sure Papi is going to come out of his funk, I wonder how much of his success at times was hitting ahead of Manny. I know he can hit, but it has to help that there was a power hitter behind him.

To come back to Papi: having hit Manny behind him sure helped. But he did not hit at the beginning of last season when he had pretty good hitters hit behind him. He did better eventually after they dropped him to the 5 spot. I wonder if he dug himself kind of a mental hole when he repeatedly complained that the Red Sox need another power hitter.
It would probably make sense to switch him with Drew in the batting order, but there are matters of pride and confidence involved, so I guess they cannot do that with a guy who used to be a franchise player.

Talking about aging players: Posada has hit another homer for the Yankees. Does that guy not get older? He’s a catcher for god’s sake, he’s supposed to wear down.
And Papi strikes out again …
And Beltre drives in two!

I think he did possibly psyche himself out. It just seems that he cannot catch up to fastballs or hit off speed stuff.
Beltre doubles bringing in V-Mart and Youk.
8-3
