Standing on a Fulcrum: Sox-Tigers ALCS Gamer V

The winner of this contest won’t win the series, but they’ll have a distinct advantage, that’s for sure. Will it be Anibal Sanchez or Jon Lester or one of their assorted supporting cast that tips this game and this series heavily in one direction? Game 6 is on Saturday afternoon, and someone will be in position to win the series then. Go Sox. Comment away.

  • There goes the no-hitter.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:13 pm
  • Lester getting squeezed a little here.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:22 pm
  • Nice baserunning from Cabrera. Out at home, thank you very much.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:29 pm
  • Napoli blasts it straight to center. 1-0.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:34 pm
  • Of course it was a bad hop, not a bad play by Cabrera, since those Tigers obviously can’t do wrong in the eyes of Fox.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:36 pm
  • Xander double.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:40 pm
  • RBI double from Ross. How on earth does Xander not score on that? 2-0 nothing instead of 3-0.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:42 pm
  • Scores anyway on Ells’ dribbler.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:43 pm
  • Not a dribbler actually, Sanchez slowed it down.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:43 pm
  • I am not as sure McCarver that running on that play was the right choice by Ross.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:47 pm
  • 3-0. Could have been more with a little luck.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:47 pm
  • 3-run inning…say hey. Hold em Lester.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 8:49 pm
  • Lester better be good now.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:51 pm
  • They’re very concerned about Avila’s health, rightly so. But Ross easily very well could have hurt himself the way he ran into Aviles.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:54 pm
  • Avila …

    Good catch by Johnny Gomes.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 8:54 pm
  • Nice catch, Gomes, don’t ever fuckin’ do it again.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 8:54 pm
  • Doesn’t every catcher what Scherzer says Avila is doing?

Man, what a catch by Iggy.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:04 pm
  • Napoli ground-rule double. Hope Leyland leaves Sanchez in a little longer.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:06 pm
  • Napoli’s really been on since Game 3 homer.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:06 pm
  • 4-0!

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:11 pm
  • Napoli scores on a wild pitch. Thanks again.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:11 pm
  • The way this ump has been calling them so far, I’m surprised Lester gets the call on the Cabrera strike-out.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:18 pm
  • 47 pitches, 3 innings, 0 runs.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:19 pm
  • Foul ball to the mask. Ross has it in for Avila today.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:24 pm
  • DP, drat.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:28 pm
  • VMart leadoff hit.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:32 pm
  • Doesn’t look to me as if Lester has his best stuff today. 4-0 is not that big a lead.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:33 pm
  • Pop to center, Peralta.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:35 pm
  • BB…2 on, 1out.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:39 pm
  • Throw strikes!

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:40 pm
  • Strikes, dammit.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:41 pm
  • They get the DP, but Lester’s throw to second wasn’t exactly on the money.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:42 pm
  • DP, YEAH!

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:43 pm
  • By the way, did I miss something? Are the Yankees playing as well? Or why did we suddenly get to see Mariano Rivera again? Nothing against Mo, but that’s just not his moment right now. Fox doing as bad a job with these broadcasts as TBS did in the ALDS.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:44 pm
  • Nava would have gotten a hit here …

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:54 pm
  • And Lester gives up another hit to Austin Jackson. He can’t suddenly be that good.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:57 pm
  • Still a pretty close game, leadoff on for Jon again.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 9:58 pm
  • Lester starts off Iglesias with a ball. It’s Iggy, not Miggy, damn.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 9:58 pm
  • Iggy was out, but Lester leading a charmed life here.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:00 pm
  • 4-1.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:06 pm
  • Ok, that could have been worse. But some extra runs would be appreciated.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:07 pm
  • 1 run’s it. Lester one more, then the pen?

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:07 pm
  • Drew couldn’t hit a beach ball right now.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:11 pm
  • Again, strikes!

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:21 pm
  • Lester playing with fire. Walks VMart to lead off.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:22 pm
  • Walks Victor.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:22 pm
  • Strikes out Peralta.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:24 pm
  • Peralta settings at air…1 out.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:25 pm
  • Swings… damn phone.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:26 pm
  • Lester up 0-2 on Infante, can’t put him away.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:29 pm
  • 2 on, drat.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:29 pm
  • 3 2/3 innings is a LOT of innings left. Lester yanked.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:31 pm
  • 4-2.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:33 pm
  • Then the DP. Solid work, Tazawa.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:34 pm
  • Run scores on Pena’s single but then the DP.

    Score some runs please.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:35 pm
  • Bullpen starts for Detroit. Coke to begin. Let’s score a run or 7, shall we? Damn, instant flyout. Jackson barely moved.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:38 pm
  • Veras next for Vic/Pedey, one would imagine.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:39 pm
  • Ugh, Victorino horribly fooled on the 3-2. Strikes out.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:44 pm
  • Pedroia on with an infield hit, steals second. 1-1 count to Ortiz.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:49 pm
  • First pitch to Papi clearly a ball gets called a strike. Pedey steals on the second pitch.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:49 pm
  • Damn it, flies to right.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:50 pm
  • Because things could go sour any minute, must say now this has been a great game and an incredible series.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:52 pm
  • True that.

    9 outs to go.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 10:54 pm
  • Can ANYONE throw strikes?! 2-0 to start off with Iglesias. Borderline strike call next.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 10:56 pm
  • 1st and 3rd, none out. FUCK.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:04 pm
  • Oh boy …

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:04 pm
  • DP makes it 4-3.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:06 pm
  • DP for Cabrera, now a 1-run game, bases empty, 2 out in 7th. Breslow now?

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:06 pm
  • Uehara for 5/6 outs, I have to imagine. Maybe 7 if Breslow walks the park again, but that seems like a lot.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:07 pm
  • Breslow to come in to get Fielder.

We’ll have two innings against the Tigers’ pen. That should be good for a couple of runs.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:08 pm
  • Detroit has single runs in the 5th/6th/7th so far.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:08 pm
  • Breslow gets the job done.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:10 pm
  • Man, Iggy catches everything out there on the left side.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:20 pm
  • Victor grounds out. 5 to go.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:24 pm
  • Breslow gets VMart and it’s Koji for 5.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:24 pm
  • And Koji is the chosen one to get them.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:25 pm
  • 3-1 count…bad Koji, bad!

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:28 pm
  • Damn, Peralta fighting. So many pitches for the first batter…

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:30 pm
  • Splitter fools him! K.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:30 pm
  • Peralta strikes out. 4 to go.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:30 pm
  • Infante strikes out on three pitches. 3 to go.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:32 pm
  • Either Ortiz for the savior grand slam or Koji for the ridiculous on-demand shut down innings is the MVP of the series for the Red Sox so far in my opinion.

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:33 pm
  • Damn, Koji. 7-8-9 in the 9th, I think. Come on, Red Sox, preserve my sanity, score.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:33 pm
  • Honorable mention to Lackey.

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:34 pm
  • Yar, SF. I’m giving it to Koji. Lester had a shot at it, but he wasn’t as good as he can be, and rightfully pulled today, IMO.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:35 pm
  • Nap could win it with another big game. Homer off Verlander for 1-0 win, big part of tonight’s 4-3 lead and multiple hits today and yesterday.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:36 pm
  • So pretty much Xander starts till the season is over, yes? I do remember a line shot double and solid D by Middlebrooks, but he’s mostly failed.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:38 pm
  • Xander works a walk.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:38 pm
  • So it turns out starting Bogaerts was a great move. I hope to see him more.

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:38 pm
  • OMG, MIDDLEBROOKS GETTING 3RD BASE, THAT WAS SCARY/AWESOME.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:39 pm
  • Umpire’s interference …

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:39 pm
  • Oh, and great bunt by Ross, by the way.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:39 pm
  • C’mon Ells. Oh nvm. Come on, Shane. Leyland with the totally reasonable move here.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:40 pm
  • Foul bunt, Jesus.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:40 pm
  • I dunno. Victorino is a major squeeze threat, isn’t he?

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:41 pm
  • And walking Ellsbury doesn’t set up a double play for long.

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:42 pm
  • 2 pitches it turns out.

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:42 pm
  • Wondered if that would happen. Earlier than I expected.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:42 pm
  • Man, Victorino, boooooo. Crap out of the zone the last few pitches.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:44 pm
  • Blech. It’s all up to Koji.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:45 pm
  • Damn, still a one run game.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:46 pm
  • Our playoff fate on the edge of a knife.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:46 pm
  • Ok, I know Lobaton wasn’t exactly a top of the order guy, but there’s really no better set of 3 to be starting the bottom of the ninth, is there?

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:46 pm
  • Koji falling behind again.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:49 pm
  • Sorry, no, 1-2.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:49 pm
  • If I’m the Tigers, I’m putting the heaviest swings on the ball that I can. Hope you manage to catch one and get it gone. Whew, one out.

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:49 pm
  • Gomes catches the pop-up. 2 to go.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:50 pm
  • Jackson flies out. 1 to go. Iggy up.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:51 pm
  • 2-0.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:52 pm
  • 2-1.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:52 pm
  • 2-2.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:53 pm
  • Iggy battles.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:53 pm
  • 3-2.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:54 pm
  • Koji for MVP. Seriously, no one in this series has been as valuable to their team.

    SF October 17, 2013, 11:55 pm
  • And he pops it up. Another great one-run victory for the Sox.

Beating Scherzer or Verlander one more will be tough though.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:55 pm
  • SO AWESOME! Long way to climb against possibly 2 great pitchers, but way to get to Sanchez tonight!

    Devine October 17, 2013, 11:56 pm
  • Yeah, I still like the position we’re in coming back to Fenway.

pale blue eyes October 17, 2013, 11:59 pm
  • Me too, mang. I cannot believe they’ve had 3 1-run victories including a 1-0 win the first game in Detroit in answer to the first game in Boston. I think Boston closes the door, but probably the margin of victory will still be narrow and it might take 7 games. Glad Playoff Farrell is all about Koji for all he’s worth and that Uehara has responded so well.

    Devine October 18, 2013, 12:22 am
  • Also, won the 3-game series in Detroit. Rad.
