Joe Girardi is sitting The Captain because Jeter sounds like Tom Carvel circa 1986. True story. Girardi is benching Jeter because of the sound of his voice. Look it up on Lohud. Meanwhile, the Yanks and Rangers have already started. Pettitte versus Harden.

Pettitte is really dealing – again. Just k’ed the ridiculously hot Nelson Cruz on 3 straight exceptional curveballs. Cruz never took the bat off his shoulder. Teixeira off the schneid with his first HR – a blast to the middle (“main”) deck in right. Ranger sloppy play continues with A-Rod able to steal third while the pitcher held the ball, watched him break, and then turned and threw to third but A-Rod slid around the tag.
Combo of great starting pitching, strong if not consistent (yet) relief pitching, the disturbing speed of Gardner and Granderson (and not so bad speed of A-Rod and Jeter) and great patience and production from the top and bottom of the line-up (with the middle heating up in the last two days) and the Yanks couldn’t be going much better right now. They still only have a 2-run lead in this one and the season is still in its infancy, but they’re already a lot fo fund to watch.
Ha – “alot of fund to watch” really wasn’t a Freudian slip, though I’m sure Yankee-haters will gladly interpret it as such :o)
3-run lead heading to the 9th – Mo-time.
Have been really impressed and actually a bit surprised by 1. CC’s and AJ’s uncharacteristically strong starts; 2. Pettitte’s brilliance; 3. Granderson’s all-around play; 4. Gardner’s impact.
Not surprised by Granderson or Gardner. Actually, Gardner is on pace to steal 112 bases! That’s pretty amazing.
The pitching though has been fantastic. I have a serious mancrush on CC. And Pettitte, could he actually be the rare Yankee who’s underrated? Man, I say he’s as good as Glavine but without the recognition.
The Sox, I really wonder what they’re going to do about the catching – 21 SB against 1 CS in 12 games. Even V-Mart doesn’t get two bases a game with the bat to make up for that.
Sweeptastic.
