Take Advantage: Sox-Dodgers Gamer III

In missing two of the Dodger aces, Lester and Greinke, and getting one good swat off another good pitcher, Ryu, the Sox have put themselves in decent position to beat the Dodgers in a series…something that hasn’t happened to the Dodgers in about two months (they have been playing .800 baseball for a third of the season now). Peavy and Capuano take the hill for the rubber match on the Red Sox’ penultimate Sunday night venture. Comment away.

  • Also, the Yanks beat the Rays in 11, giving the Sox a chance to get only one back in the loss column and a theoretical game ahead.

  • Capuano on the ropes early, Napoli auto-doubles Victorino in. Gomes IBB loads ‘em for M’brooks with 1 down…but he DPs, and the Sox get only the one.

  • Crawford, Punto, Gonzalez 123 to Peavy. Cherington made a couple good trades.

  • 3-1 after 5. The 1 Dodger run was a Gonzo solo job.

  • Salty homers off reliever Withrow (Capuano pinch-hit for in the 5th) with Napoli on 1st and 2 out. 5-1 Sox!

  • The Sox scored 12 runs in this series (0, 4, 8). The Dodgers scored 5 (2, 2, 1). That is goooooooood shit right there. Series victory and a nice statement from the Sox.

Peavy goes all 9 and gets Punto, Gonzalez, Ramirez 1-2-3 in the 9th, striking out Hanley to finish it. He set down the last 12 batters he faced and finished at 111 pitches.

    FUCK YEAH!

  • I had a peacful easy feeling all day because of what happened last night in Los Angeles. And this is bound to continue for which I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to the Kansas City Royals who are leading the Satan Rays 10-1 in the top of the 7th.

I still disagree with KC giving Wil Meyers away long-term in exchange for James Shields short-term though.

And let’s commiserate for a brief moment with poor Carl Crawford who must feel baaad after not having swept the Red Sox. By the way, the Dodgers seem to play in a pretty weak division. So I don’t take it for granted that they will go to the World Series. It might well be the Pirates and the Tigers in the end. But on the other hand, why not us, as they used to say?

  • Too right all around, pbe. It was a great day to have an off-day, totally bolstered by the Royals, who I can almost forgive for so soundly trouncing the Red Sox not too long ago.
