  • If Tazawa has a game ERA of under 9 I will be shocked.

    SF August 22, 2009, 4:18 pm
  • Double aside, that was a good inning from Tazawa. 13 pitches, and he worked himself out of otrouble.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:19 pm
  • Couple of hard hit balls there but Tazawa gets out of the first with out any problems…next question is which AJ shows up today.

  • LET’S GO YANKEES!!!
I found a feed online to watch the game…it’s not very high quality but then again, either is Memphis!!!
Let the rookie off the hook…not good. GAME! BURNETT SUCKS!!!

  • Pedro and Vmart!

  • “…pretty sure it’s a feed from India???”
Are they playing with a red ball and a flat bat?

    sam-YF August 22, 2009, 4:25 pm
  • Sam you sonofabitch I was going to say something along those lines!

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:28 pm
  • Game over.

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:29 pm
  • Hey look, another random strikezone. That ball 2 was better than strike 1.
FUCK YEAH! Ortiz doubles off the monster, scoring both runners. 2-0 Sox!
Also, great call sending VMart. It was CLOSE, but still good.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:29 pm
  • F*ck yeah. We need every run possible with Junichi pitching.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:29 pm
  • Burnett is garbage against good teams…sorry-ass piece of sh-t.
No sam, no cricket…i would rather watch cricket though than AJ sh-t the bed again.

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:30 pm
  • Hinske seriously sucks in the field. I could tell that was a wall ball the second it was hit…gotta play that right.
In other news, I guess the shitty AJ is here today. Keep it at two guy…

    sam-YF August 22, 2009, 4:30 pm
  • Lost in the 1st inning. Bye guys.

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:31 pm
  • Jason Bay singles! 3-0 Sox. I’m shocked they sent Papi home, though he ended up being much safer than I expected.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:31 pm
  • Papi motorin’. Very nice. Martinez and Ortiz scoring on those plays is huge considering their, uhhhh, speed.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:31 pm
  • Why the F-CK ISN’T JERRY PLAYING LF???? HINSKIE IS A BIG, FAT, SLOW, NO-ARMED DOUCHE IN THE OF!!!!

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:38 pm
  • Throw a strike on 3-2, damn you. Awwww, that was close.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:39 pm

  • What the f-ck was Cano thinking???? F-CK!!!!

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:40 pm
  • I assume he takes Penny’s spot? Or is it Tazawa’s? Ha ha, Cano. I’ll take it.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:41 pm
  • Cano’s lazy-ass is really getting tired. No comparison to Pedroia who actually plays hard…F-CKING LOSER!!!

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:41 pm
  • Cano gunned-down at 2nd, but Pedroia was hit in the head by the helmet.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:41 pm
  • Tazawa is getting pounded.

    SF August 22, 2009, 4:42 pm
  • the dude who inputs the gameday info is a YF. ortiz’s double was described as “Ortiz doubles (27) on a pop-up to shortstop Derek Jeter”. nice.

    sf rod August 22, 2009, 4:43 pm
  • Scoreboard SF? 3rd with 1 out…will not score a run. Pathetic.

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:44 pm
  • Bad luck for the Yanks on the liner. RIGHT at Martinez. Uno mas, Taz-mania.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:44 pm
  • BABIP luck. This is not going to end well for Junichi.

    SF August 22, 2009, 4:44 pm

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:45 pm
  • japanese rookie > aj

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:46 pm
  • Tazawa doing a great Daisuke impression: lots of baserunners, but very few runs allowed.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:47 pm
  • No problem bro…enjoy your win.
Let’s see how many AJ gives up this inning???? I’ll take at least 2…

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 4:47 pm
  • No breakthrough again for the yanks. AJ needs to quiet the sox and let the yanks bats do their things before its too late. Im off to the goat farm! Go yanks!

    sam-YF August 22, 2009, 4:47 pm
  • Haha. HR Gonzalez.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:52 pm
  • Alex Gonzalez must be on steroids! 4-0 Sox.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 4:52 pm
  • Devine: it’s funny, my reaction was also just to laugh.

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 4:53 pm
  • I know, sw. There’s no other reasonable reaction (well, mild bemusement and a pleasant sense of well-being, maybe).
Once again, they need every run. They keep hitting shots off Tazawa, they’re not all going to turn into outs at bases or line-outs.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 4:55 pm
  • My feed is down. Good. Don’t want to watch AJ suck any more ass anyways. Enjoy the win SF’s, rubber game tomorrow…

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:01 pm
  • YES YES YES YES!

    runs.

    SF August 22, 2009, 5:02 pm
  • My friend texted me about an hour ago saying “Hey dude, the over/under for the Sox/Yanks game is 10.5 total runs. I took the under.” I told him he was an idiot, and that there would be more than 10 runs after 3 innings. Looks like that might end up true.
    Pour it on, boys!

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:03 pm
  • whats the big knock on posadas pitcher handling? why does no one want to throw to him?

    sf rod August 22, 2009, 5:04 pm
  • Lol, even the broadcasters agree that the 7-run lead isn’t safe.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:06 pm
  • Too…many…3-ball…counts. Jeter is out, though.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 5:07 pm
  • Do Japanese starting pitchers hate strikes or something?
    Swisher 1B off the wall.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 5:09 pm
  • ARod backs out of the way on a tight curveball. Goofy looking there.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:11 pm
  • Wow ARod was afraid of those curveballs. Beautiful.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:13 pm
  • “If you don’t throw over 90 MPH, you have to have some deception” says McCarver.
As far as I can tell, Tazawa’s fastball sits around 91, 92.
    Great curve to get A-Rod.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 5:13 pm
  • wow. tazawa threw some nasty looking wrinkles there. a-rod buckled on 3 different pitches in that sequence.

    sf rod August 22, 2009, 5:14 pm
  • Hey look, Burnett showed up. Too bad he’s 2 innings too late.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:20 pm
  • Oh for heaven’s sake, please don’t get cocky, Ath.

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 5:22 pm
  • Sorry, I’m not trying to say the game is over, or that it’s “too late” to come back. Just that it seems like he didn’t start his real pitching until now, and that the game started 2 innings ago.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:25 pm
  • Cano has hit the wall twice today. Safe at 2nd this time, with Posada at 3rd.
Nice K! One more, once again, to strand a runner or two.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 5:30 pm
  • Tazawa getting out of trouble again. We like zeroes on the board.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:31 pm
  • Very nice. There hasn’t been anything lucky about the last two innings for Tazawa.

    Devine August 22, 2009, 5:31 pm
  • Wow, way to come through, Tazawa! No runs through 4!

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 5:31 pm

  • Tex and ARod both single. Strand some more, Tazzy.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:48 pm
  • Two more runners stranded. 5 scoreless innings, 8 stranded runners. VERY Daisuke-like.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 5:53 pm
  • PAPI HOMERS! 8-0 Sox.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 6:01 pm

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 6:01 pm
  • Burnett’s lips after the homer: “WHY? WHY? WHY? Why would you throw that? Why?”

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 6:02 pm
  • And on this note, with Burnett channeling Nancy Kerrigan, I can go mow my lawn.

    dabize August 22, 2009, 6:04 pm
  • Bay and Drew both double, 9-0 now. DON’T LET UP.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 6:05 pm

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 6:18 pm
  • This one’s the equivalent of that Penny 6 IP, 0 ER outing against the Yanks. Plenty of luck involved this time for sure. 2 doubles, 6 singles, and 2 walks. Lucky, lucky, lucky. Was it 5 innings with a Yankee runner stranded at 3rd?

    Devine August 22, 2009, 6:23 pm
  • 10-0. Nice palate cleanser after last night. Need 9 more outs. Nice to see the offense go double digit runs two nights in a row. Solid all week.

    rootbeerfloat August 22, 2009, 6:36 pm
  • RBF: Francona said that Penny’s fate depended on how Tazawa pitched today. Which, yeah, I think means Penny is finally, finally out of the rotation.
Jeez, Theo, why didn’t you trade him when you could??

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 6:38 pm
  • Bard is looking…unpolished.

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 6:42 pm

    stuck working August 22, 2009, 6:46 pm

    FenSheaParkway August 22, 2009, 6:46 pm
  • Just checked the score…1-12. Nice. This is exactly why we are not going to win anything in the post-season. AJ has never pitched in the playoffs, but we’ve seen him get ASS-POUNDED twice in Fenway already. CC, as you all love to point out, is horrible in the post-season and Tex is downright ARod-ish in the postseason with a what, .230 average?
F-ck this team. Crush the crap teams, lose to the good teams. Nice job you bunch of f-cking losers.
    rant over.

  • Hairston at SS, Molina at 3B? This is just silly now.

    Atheose August 22, 2009, 6:50 pm

  • You guys have got to be kidding me…

    krueg's ghost August 22, 2009, 6:54 pm

Pleasantly surprised, for sure. Now we need to finish this off and have odd-year Beckett show up tomorrow.

    SF August 22, 2009, 6:59 pm

And who would have guessed that after giving up 20 runs in the first game that the Sox would be outscoring the Yankees for the series.

    SF August 22, 2009, 7:14 pm

Personally, I don’t see how this makes the comments any less stupid, but maybe this will appease the YFs that found themselves particularly bothered by his “get off my lawn”-style ramblings.

    So, SF. Are you?

  • Missed today’s game entirely (and, as it turns out, very happily).
Posada’s post-game comments re: AJ shaking him off and throwing stuff other than what he called combined with AJ’s comments after the last game he pitched (when cross-ups between him and Posada led to one 3-run inning that ultimately cost the ballgame) are a horrible indication of what’s going on between these two and depressing given that they are both veterans if nothing else. Work this crap out between yourselves!!!!! And do it immediately before throwing another game away. Please?!?!? It’s almost September! Have you two not had a conversation about his yet?!? Step in here Joe. Please. Either assign Molina to AJ or – preferably – lock Jorge and AJ in a room until they work out whatever the hell they need to work out.

    IronHorse August 22, 2009, 11:51 pm
  • IH, the game was weird to watch. It seemed like in every at-bat AJ would shake him off, and Posada would jog out there and they would talk, then Posada would go back and it would happen again. It was clear they weren’t on the same page all night.
Also, did you see the video of AJ talking to himself after one of the homers?

    Atheose August 23, 2009, 7:33 am
  • i just hope AJ doesn’t turn into another randy johnson re. posada…they need to get their shi* toghether…
seriously, does anybody really listen to what rice says?…he’s a total fool…luckily that didn’t keep him out of the hall…well, maybe you could argue that it did for awhile, but you know what i mean…
what’s with these sox/yank games lately?…isn’t baseball cool?…you never know if you’re going to get a double-shutout marathon ending in the 15th, or a 31 run hitting exhibition…now in a game that the yankees supposedly have the edge in the starting pitcher matchup, we get this…that’s why they play ‘em, and that’s why i watch ‘em…

    dc August 23, 2009, 9:27 am
  • I watch them to see a 15-0 Yankee win every game!!! ;)
I fully expect Beckett to shut us out tonight, CC to get rocked and the Sox to get right back in the race like I’ve been saying all along…we don’t get to play sub-.500 teams in the playoffs.
7-13 against the Sox and Angels this year.

What are you talking about, lately. I think Paul should do a post examining the awesomeness of Sox vs. Yankees for the past decade, postseason doesn’t even have to be included. It seems like a cliche to say that you can’t take too much from these games because anything and everything seems to happen in them, but I believe it to be true. Like you said, even this year you have a 15-inning scoreless marathon, and a 31-run game.

yes. Tazawa got out of the first two frames with lucky BABIP. I thought he was going to give up a few in a few, at the least. He did well.

  • I want a Posada/AJ dugout scuffle, and I want it asap.
This would be better than the A-Rod/Tek fight.
I just hope Posada remembers to take off his catcher’s gear beforehand–just to be sporting. ;-)

    SoxFan August 23, 2009, 4:07 pm
  • No Ath, I still haven’t seen the clip of AJ in the dugout – just getting back to the land of TV and i-net now – plan to watch the postgame just for AJ’s and Jorge’s comments – other than that I don’t plan to watch anything from yesterday. Happy to skip straight to tonight’s game.

    IronHorse August 23, 2009, 6:12 pm
  • Yeah, I don’t blame you IH. AJ was yelling “Why? Why? Why? Why? Why would you throw that? Why? Why?”
It was an emphatic exclamation point to the troubles he and Posada had all game.
I want a Posada/AJ dugout scuffle, and I want it asap.
No kidding. Since there’s no team that currently matches up with the Yankees, the least they could do is destroy themselves from the inside out.

    Atheose August 23, 2009, 6:36 pm
  • When I saw AJ yelling that, I first thought that he was pissed at Posada for calling that pitch. I’d be interested to re-watch the sequence and see what he shook off and how they got to that pitch.
Earlier in the year (right around the US Open) Mike Francesa had Girardi on WFAN and openly asked him if Posada and Burnett got along, that he had heard from a little birdie that they don’t talk, can’t stand each other. Girardi evaded an answer, but eventually came out and said there wasn’t a problem. But that took about five minutes of prying from Francesa, to get out a commitment from Girardi that there isn’t an issue between the two of them. Seems hard to believe at this point.

    SF August 23, 2009, 7:23 pm
  • “Since there’s no team that currently matches up with the Yankees, the least they could do is destroy themselves from the inside out.”
