The Beckett Sequence: Rays-Sox Gamer V

Josh Beckett is going to have a monster game. How do I know this?

Well, I’ll tell you. To start the season, Beckett gave up five runs in less than five innings. Then he gave up three runs in less than seven, then three runs in eight, then two runs in seven. That’s good for game scores of 40-56-62-75. Fibonacci or Nibofacci or Pinocchio or whatever his name was (math was not our strong suit in school) would be proud.

That’s an average game score increase of about 12 points. So Beckett’s game score today will be 87. I figure a complete game, three hits, one run, one walk, 11 strikeouts. That should do it.

He should get the win, but considering he’ll be facing James Shields, let’s hope it’s not a 1-0 loss. Here’s your game thread for all this evening’s action. Comment away!

  • Nice to see our offense show up last night. I was at Citizens Bank Park watching an extremely good Phillies/Giants game and when the out of town scoreboared showed the Sox score goign from 1 to 6, I freaked out a bit.

  • “The Beckett Sequence”
Movie guy voice: In a world with no rules stands a man made by others to be a killing machine. Tormented by loss of memory, life, love. “I can tell you the license plate numbers of all six cars outside. I can tell you that our waitress is left-handed and the guy sitting up at the counter weighs two hundred fifteen pounds and knows how to handle himself. I know the best place to look for a gun is the cab of the gray truck outside, and at this altitude, I can run flat out for a half mile before my hands start shaking. Now why would I know that? How can I know that and not know who I am”
Jason Bourne/Josh Beckett. JB.. coincidence? I think not.
Okay, maybe too much fun last night for gerbil on Dos de Mayo. I will go now.

  • Shouldn’t it be more like:
“I can tell you the on base percentages of all nine guys in the lineup. I can tell you that our bat boy is left handed and that the guy in the on deck circle weighs 215# and knows how to handle a bat. I know that the best place to locate this changeup is on the outside lower corner of the plate, and that if it gets hit I have 0.2 seconds to stab it on my left before it gets by me. Now why would I know that? How can I know that and not know WHO I AM?”
… someone needs to make this a movie. Beckett with amnesia, has to find his way back to the Marlins farm system… summer blockbuster, y/y?

  • If I had half of AG’s wit, I’d be the funniest person I know… except for AG, of course.
Meanwhile, the Sox are breaking out of their funk in a big way. They’ve scored in every inning but the fifth, and they’re threatening again in the seventh…
