The Last Albatross: Sox-Jays Gamer II

Lackey got paid a whole lot of money to recover from surgery last season. Now he gets paid #1/2 money to be a #5 pitcher. In The Great Salary Dump with the Dodgers last season, the Sox unloaded almost every millstone, but Lackey remains. Will he be as absolutely useless as ever after recovering from Tommy John? Don’t worry, even if he sucks, the excuses he makes afterward (“I pitched well enough to win” “Just a couple of grounders found a hole” “I thought I made some pretty good pitches”) will be entertainment enough in their high comedy.

J.A. Happ pitches for the thus-far beleaguered Blue Jays. I predict a 15-14 game, but who wins? Comment away!

  • Easy 1-2-3 inning for Happ.

  • Ciriaco walks, gets to third on a wild pitch and a throwing error by the catcher, then is out at the plate on a fielder’s choice. Ellsbury then steals second, Victorino walks. Pedey pops it up on a full count. Happ had work this time, but the Sox have nothing to show for it.

  • Lackey on the verge of walking Bonifacio who struck out four times yesterday but gets the ground-out.

  • Two-out singles from Reyes and Davis, then Lackey goes 2-0 on Cabrera but gets the K. 51 pitches after three.

  • Pretty sure these pitchers are just trying to spite me for my prediction, scoreless through 3.

  • Second K for Napoli. Obviously he can’t wait to get back to Fenway.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 2:08 pm
  • Another 1-2-3 for Happ, all K’s.

  • Two-run homer for Arincibia. There we go.

  • Lackey gives up a 2-run bomb to center. Shocking.

  • Ellsbury’s leadoff double the only Red Sox hit through 5. Shameful.

  • Holy shit, that looks like a serious arm injury for Lackey.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 2:33 pm
  • And just when he was on the verge of pitching a non-shitty start, too.

  • This was the role Aceves shone in during 2011, but uh, I’m not optimistic.

    Devine April 6, 2013, 2:39 pm
  • Replay on the Jays broadcast makes it look like the arm did not feel right after the previous pitch.

  • Blue Jays fans doing the wave. I wanna puke.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 2:50 pm
  • Happ taken out after 99 pitches. Of course he was good, but just one hit for the Sox? Pathetic!

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 2:52 pm
  • 3 2/3 innings with the Jays pen.

    Make ‘em count.

  • Jesus, Victorino caught stealing, Pedroia check-swing K on subsequent pitches.

    Devine April 6, 2013, 2:57 pm
  • I guess Aceves would like to replace Lackey in the rotation. Not making a good case for himself right now.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:05 pm
  • Case closed.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:07 pm
  • Aceves gives up 3-run blast.

Making it easier to decide who leaves when both Morales and Breslow are ready again (Mortensen will probably go first).

    Devine April 6, 2013, 3:08 pm
  • Striking out Reyes does not atone for that home run.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:10 pm
  • Might Morales be the fifth starter then? Or Webster getting called up?

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:11 pm
  • Blue Jays announcer notes that the homer gives them a little breathing room. Profound!!!!

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:12 pm
  • They look just as pathetic against Delabar as against Happ.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:14 pm
  • Another bomb off Aceves but Victorino hauls it in.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:18 pm
  • Yeah, I’d suppose Morales is starter 5 if Lackey’s out. Maaaaybe they’d bring up one of the “kids”, though.

    Devine April 6, 2013, 3:29 pm
  • Biceps strain for Lackey: That does not sound too bad. Let’s hope it’s true.

  • Looking to Aceves to finish it off here, spare the rest of the pen for Lester’s (5-inning?) start tomorrow.

    Devine April 6, 2013, 3:33 pm
  • Okay cool. I’d kinda like them to avoid being shut out, but really, it doesn’t matter.

    Devine April 6, 2013, 3:36 pm
  • A base hit!! Pedey.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:43 pm
  • Napoli hits it to the wall but Rasmus makes the catch. Game over.

Be nice to return from the trip with a winning record. So we need a great game from Lester tomorrow.

pale blue eyes April 6, 2013, 3:46 pm
  • Oh well. Lester and Dickey tomorrer.
